Hello Brady, on the soprano I have, it has a somewhat large ring that I put my thumb through. That keeps the sax position stable. It’s also not too heavy, so that seems like enough for me for now. Some people use straps for soprano but there are quite a few who do not.

Got it. The ring is not a standard thing. And my soprano is also from 1929. So for stability of the sax as you play or comfort, you might want a strap.

Try Googling "sunny Bobby Hebb sheet music," you might need to transpose though depending on which instrument you're playing and if you want to play in the original key.

@@SaxStation Piano is my main instrument for my music studies. I have been playing for five years now. My sight reading isn't perfect though. I can indentify notes okay for the most part, it's just reading through stuff while playing that needs more work. My ear training could always use work too

Cool, let me know what you think if you try it. A different app more for ear training might be a better fit. And just practicing sight reading more. This app is more for people starting off from what I can tell.

You would need the chromatic notes, basically more notes than would work with the numbers available on a keyboard.

For alto sax?

I learned it on tenor originally and then I learned it myself on alto from what I knew. One option is the a real book which has a lot of jazz tunes. And one version that has it is the sixth edition volume 2, amzn.to/3ufePHd I would check out what else is in that book and see if it would be what you want.

Some tuners can if they’re able to be set for a transposed instrument. Do you understand how transposition works for alto sax?

Basically C on alto sax is concert Eb. So go up from any alto sax note by a minor third or three half steps to get to concert.

That’s cool you’re playing again. It can be tough to fight against pads that need to be replaced! But it’s also an expensive thing to do. It can be worth it, but it depends on the horn.
