Double wrapped AMs

An uncommon sight on the Auckland rail network is two wrapped units coupled together - with a handful of wrapped units roaming the network, the chances of two of them together is quite low. Here, AM 509 and AM 674 pair up on a Southern Line service to Waitematā, seen here departing Puhinui. 🟠 Support us on Patreon! patreon.nzrailphotos.co.nz/ 🗣️ Join the Rail NZ Discord server discord.gg/yzBcSW...

I love this video , it is cool to see a dbr used instead of a kiwirail locomotive 😊
I love the Safetran Type Three E Bells it's a cool sound
Definitely
Even more milestones achieved
AM 836 had made a major milestone
Will they do 6 car testings
Can't wait!
Me to
I saw you there!😁
ASO1 + A3022 the first two passenger carriages behind the locomotives
What does on loan mean?
DC 4594 was loaned from KiwiRail if there was a locomotive shortage within the normal SA fleet, but returned to the freight pool when no longer required. It wasn't leased to ARTA/AT like the rest of the SA motive power fleet was.
Nice view at what Auckland was before electrification, I moved to Auckland after electrification so don't know what it was like first hand.
Why kiwirail locomotives weren't for the testing?
Thank you for another brilliant video alex!👍
Very cool. Im guessing DBR1254 was turned at the Paerata Triangle?
The AMs have finally reached their first milestone
Will they ever do a 6 car testing to pukekohe?
When will the electric wires come in action?
Around mid January next year.
I guess it must have been cheaper for AT to hire GVR's DBR than to get a loco from Kiwirail
Or that GVR were more helpful
KiwiRail refused to let Auckland Transport borrow a loco, according to the big train boss who stays at waitemata
Nice Video! This woukdve been cool to see. 🫤
how was the coupling done? did they make a chopper-shaku adapter just for this train?
Each AM unit carries a Scharfenberg to chopper and automatic transition head on board, in case of emergencies. In this case, it looks like one was delivered to the GVR ahead of time as you can see it attached to 1254's coupler in the first shot.
@@nzrailphotos-yt ok thanks. in that case I'd assume they'd also carry on for knuckle couplers aswell?
Why'd they need GVR power for this testing?
We're not 100% sure why KiwiRail couldn't provide a locomotive, but the EMU needed to be towed as the overhead power is not yet live south of Papakura
@@nzrailphotos-yt hope they got a good rate to pick up Kiwirail's slack haha
Most likely GVR gave them a better price. And probably encouraged AT to let them hold on to the rescue adapter for future use.
A lot of AOR members work for GVR now as well. They are preferred, haha.
Saw that at New Lynn on 27th of February
Yesterday i rode Am 306 to Middlemore from manukua then saw Am's 593 And 904
The 'Public Holiday', was non other than ANZAC Day...They shall never be forgotten. Lives given, for us today to enjoy...Be aware of where Autocracies and ROT with-in Democracies are headed today...not bad video. Glad you enjoyed yourself.
I'm assuming that the log wagons heading toward the port will be milled in China, what a shame, thanks for sharing
Put bells on the locos sounds way better.
Basically a joke train. A small portion of the NZTA budget could get the Hamilton --> Auckland service faster than driving and far more frequently. Needs to utilise induced demand. Also what the heck is with the hideously long PA? Whoever is in charge of this service needs a train travelling holiday in the UK
Great video though mate!
You are extremely lucky to have a railway in your back garden 😊
Thank you for another excellent video 🙏
This is so cool 😎
Thanx for the great trip. Don't see much of steam trains since moving to Tauranga.
Cause of the restrictions through the Kaimai tunnel unfortunately
Do we know how old ww 644 is?
Ww 644 was built in 1915, making it 109 years old
I think its also about time you came back down here for a change
Air fares and travel are expensive! It'll happen one day
@@nzrailphotos-yt hopefully
This video is absolutely excellent, thank you so much for sharing 😊
Thanks for a cool video
Nice little railway which I visited in 2010 during my holiday to NZ, they gave me a cab ride on this locomotive. Actually had several cab rides in NZ, as soon as they find out you're an enthusiast and visiting from abroad you're mostly welcomed.
Nice old day out with the blue engine that's show has turn to dog water but some.good clips in there
I guess the DBR's are in storage atm, awaiting work to be done on them
The DBRs are operational and do see some use, but they unfortunately weren't running the day we were there
@@nzrailphotos-yt Nice video. Was last time there about 4 years ago but go past it quite frequently. Wonder if they have a timetable for when they run with the DBR
Have visited this railway a few times, and must be due for another trip.
very good
This compilation is really cool, I need to watch your livestream more often but it is awkward living in the UK because of the time difference!
This video is absolutely brilliant, I have been watching your videos for a long time 😊
I have been watching your channel for about seven years and I always enjoy all of your videos, thank you for this roundup 😊
I would like to have seen the inside of the boaches.
There's some interior shots in our video covering the launch of Te Huia: czcams.com/video/Wfs0kQBJiGw/video.html
Would be interesting if the new DM locos would be at least trailed on the Metroport trains
the 5 minute long announcement yapping lmao
Just wondering how many Maori only speakers were on that train. Zero I suspect . All wokeness.
Te Huia could get another SRV lead carriage at the back replacing the loco so that way the train would look a lot better and it'll look like the Auckland EMUs.
This would mean no power for the consist! The SRV is a driving cab only, it doesn't provide any traction :)
old Queensland and Perth Railcars
That weird control car would never make it to Auckland on time because the Loco is too heavy 😂
Great Video, the speed and quality of the load suggests that customers on this line needs to lift their game or risk loosing it! thanks for sharing
Hi Tony, this line closed two days after this video was filmed. The line however is currently being upgraded with the intention to reopen it for container traffic from around the area.
Interesting Video, why did the last train have 5 engines when the total train length was less than 50 carriages most of which were 2 axle?
Hi Tony, this is covered in the description - one of the original locomotives had failed and the other could not lift the train on its own, so the other three were sent out to rescue it.
Watching this nine years later somehow feels relatable. I remember watching this as a kid, and having no understanding whatsoever of what it meant. I just liked the trains lol. ❤
