  • @Arikdefrasia

    The only glaring problems I see with this is the lack of weather sealing on practically every side. 1. It doesn't seem you caulked or shielded any of the new window frame to prevent rain from getting in or cool air from getting out. There's the obvious light leaking in on the right side the same thing on the left side. Some of which can't be caulked and needs a more precise cut. 2. There's no weather sealing between the old sliding window and the 2x4 you used to create the support for the new frame. Can't use caulk for that and would have to somehow create a new seal for that window. Otherwise, this is a solid idea that just needs the details ironed out a bit more so that its not flushing away all the energy efficiency and prone to water leaks.

    I am going to do a similar install myself, but I wasn't sure about the nitrogen/refrigerant component. I was wondering if it requires special certification for adding refrigerant. How did you learn to do nitrogen pressurization? Also, can you explain the process for adding drain lines for condensate?

    • @ron12april
      @ron12april Před měsícem

      Nitrogen pressurization is covered in the installation manual. You can rent nitrogen from a local welding supply shop. However, you will probably have to buy a regulator. You should check all flare connections with soapy water. If you pull a permit you will likely need a licensed person to observe the adding of refrigerant. Some people do the install and then have a licensed contractor do the pressure check and refrigerant addition. Drain lines exit the indoor units with the refrigerant and electrical lines. Key is to keep drain lines flowing down hill. In my case, the drain lines separated from the other lines where the refrigerant and electrical turned from downhill to horizontal aiming toward the branch box, and the drain lines continued straight down to close to the ground.

I have noticed in the past that this reported minimum opening usually includes the side filler pieces. Can someone measure theirs and tell me if without those side filler pieces if the main unit itself will fit 21". I have the 10000 BTU unit here (same reported dimensions as 8000 and 12000) still in its box as I didn't expect it would need a window larger than 22. I don't mind clipping the bottom 5 inches of the window frame side C-channel to just barely get 22" maybe if required since I really want quiet AC in this particular room. Prefer if I can slip it into 21" though. Thanks.

I am planning to install my RV's AC unit on a curb. I'm planning to have a smaller curb just a little larger than the AC opening. I can heat weld it to my TPO roofing membrane and then counter flash under the Unit and add a drip edge to the outter perimeter of the shroud to allow the water to flow away from the gasget.

      Thanks for your comment. Lots and lots of discussion regarding whether glass in line fuel filters are safe or not. My take away so far is that glass itself doesn't usually break but the threads and cap holding O ring failing tends to be an issue. My install seems to be secure, vibration is minimized by the long fuel line with multiple turns and rubber connectors, and unlike injection systems, this mechanical fuel pump only puts out about 5 psi. Nonetheless I am considering switching to a metal in line filter.

    Just picked up one of these units myself. This is a great video, I was planning on doing the exact same for the fresh air!

    Do you have a check valve installed before the Flologic unit? If not, have you had any issues with false alarms? Also, are you able to see your water usage over time?

      No check valve and no false alarms. No water usage associated with unit. Water meter on main line coming into house upstream of shut off valve and of course the monthly bill from the city.

    Hey Ron, I kinda like this. Got me thinking? So what if I installed exactly like you did. Then instead of a momentary switch I installed a off/on/on momentary? So, for normal operation you would push the toggle arm to momentary, then release which defaults back to off and the mechanical pump takes over(again just like ypurs), However, IF, your mechanical pump ever fails(which life says it will sooner or later), one could switch the toggle to on which would stay as it is not spring loaded. Now the elect pump takes over thus not leaving you stranded??? Would this work or would it push to much fuel into the bowl and flood? As long as the elect fuel pump has the auto shut off feature one could even put a inline psi reducer after the pump to control the flow. Example: GM235cu carb requires 2-4 psi to carb. What's your thoughts? Thanks for the tutorial.

      I actually had a mechanical pump go bad. The electric pump saved the day. I pushed the momentary pump until things smoothed out and then let go. When the engine started starving, I did it again. Got me home without any issues. Since the failure could be a torn membrane allowing fuel into the crankcase, I would not continue driving in this fashion very long. Therefore, your suggestion will work, but seems like a bit of overkill. The Faucet pump I use has a max pressure of 5.5 psi. I don't think the very slight overpressure will do any harm (5.5 vs 4).
