How do we develop a culturally relevant teacher community of practice? (Part 2/2)
This workshop was part of a two-part workshop series consisting of two linked sessions and explored the value of online communities of practice (CoP); how to set them up and how to support them to run effectively. The workshops made use of storytelling as a key feature of the process of setting up CoPs, as well as their ongoing maintenance. The two linked workshops were designed to be interactive and collaborative, fostering an environment where teachers can share their experiences and insights.
In the first session, through guided storytelling activities, participants discussed their professional development journey and their needs for further development. The stories they told served as the raw material for a collective reflection on the challenges, triumphs, needs and aspirations within the group. Additionally, they discussed about different online tools that can help teachers to collect these stories for analysis in the second workshop.
In the second session, through guided activities, participants collectively analysed the stories to identify common themes and underlying issues pertinent to their professional development. Participants engaged in dialogue to formulate concrete goals and action plans. The workshop encouraged teachers to take ownership of their professional development, fostering a sense of agency and autonomy.
