Monogramming has always been a simple project but has become much more complex over time. Thanks for going through the different steps and processes for us. Your videos are always a pleasure, Carol!
Yes, there are so many options now.
Another great video sure is a lot of options in there to choose from.
Definitely!
Thanks!
Very much appreciated.
Monogramming staat nog op mijn to do list ;-))
That was lucky then. Have fun.
Thank you Carol for another great tutorial. I love continuous quilting. i am getting to know my software now which is a good thing. Comparing from 12 months ago. Have come along way thanks to your videos. Thank you. They are very useful.
That's great Caroline.
Thank you once again!
My pleasure!
Hi Carol thank you, looking forward to getting to grips with my software when the snow starts. Will have lots of questions once my lessons begin…having purchased your lesson kit.😁
Wonderful! All the best.
Thank you Carol. This is very useful 👌.
Glad it was helpful!

I love yours videoes ...... so many many Thanks 😍
Glad you like them!
Your tutorials are awesome..once I actually get the software (need to setup and test the vm-I have a MAC) I will likely setup a session with you in a few months b/c I’m sure I will have ?’s only an expert like you could answer
Thank you for your kind words. Good luck setting up your software. Hope to hear from you in the not to distant future.
Can you use the fabric type adjustment on purchased embroideries (i.e. NOT *.art)
You can apply a fabric to purchased designs (stitch files), but the effect may not be applied to all objects in the design. You will get a notice saying that applying a fabric to the stitch file may have limitations and to use an all in one file if you have one, e.g. art. The reason for this is that the software may not interpret the stitch file perfectly in to the exact same objects that were originally digitized. I tested a .pes design and there was a change in the number of stitches, so some change took effect. I would have to test sew to be sure.
thanks Carol excellent
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you carol for explaining the embroidery part& the order it should go in. Some times you have to change some of the order of the stitching for it to so out properly. You did a great job. 😁
Thanks Caroline
Thanks for this awesome video! Is it possible to change the “cover stitching” to any BERNINA stitch or are you limited to a certain # of different stitches? I’m getting a 990 and deciding if I should switch to Designer Plus v9.2 or stay with mysewnet. I currently use various stitches for my appliqué and commonly use a bean stitch.
Yes you can! In fact you can digitize the applique with any of the available outline stitches. Bernina has a triple stitch which is what you call the bean stitch. As long as you enclose an area with outline stitches and or filled areas, you can make it an applique.
@@CarolUndy coool thanks a lot!
Thank you Carol for a really great video. Enjoy it a lot. You explained everything really well. Are you going to have a PDF on it like the rest of your lessons?
Sorry, I am not doing PDF's for CZcams videos at this time.
Thank you Carol. A most useful video...more than several lessons I've had in the past. Shows a practical use of all the tools put together. I think being able to visualize the goal of the project is what helped me the most. So many classes just tell me to do this, then that , then that and I don't have the goal in mind. This simple project allowed me to know what I needed to do, and then told me how to accomplish that. Great job!
So glad you enjoyed it. Happy digitizing.
Fantastic lesson. Thank you so much. Lots to process and think about, so I really appreciate the details you explained.
I'm glad you found it useful.
Great continue on from video 1, it is so good to go back and refresh on appliqué. So informative thank you Carol so looking forward to do this project.
Can't wait to see your design.
Yes please Carol,I am very interested in the applique way.Thank you for explaining the different ways of doing it.
I will release the video soon.
Absolutely interested in doing this via Applique. Thank you so much for the learning opportunity
Love this training method...so much clearer than most I have had. Looking forward to the next videos based on this practical digitizing task.
Glad you are finding my videos helpful.
I could hug you, Carol. Thank you. looking forward to the following video's. Greetings from the Netherland. Fenny
You are so welcome!
Quite a nice pic, enjoyed the video looking forward to the follow ons coming, also liked the selection of stitches used.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love learning from you as always!! Appreciate this video about digitizing and all the considerations. About the size, are you implying it's better to start with a smaller image? I have a large hoop and would have been happy with the original size.
The original size is fine, but choose carefully how you digitize. An applique at the original size would work well, but not a design that is full of step fill, as the large areas will pull in too much.
Thank you so much for addressing this issue. Min scan-n-cut 325 exports *.jpg when I scan to usb-I’m trying to fussy cut fabric and create and appliqué embroidery file to make stitching the cut object (backed with heat-n-bond lite) simple..thus I need a precise sized placement, tack down and outline applique stitch outs--I’ve been having problems using mysewnet as it sizes to the hoop size or rectangle-which is based on the “box” surrounding the object and not always precise. Resizing/ rescaling in my sewnet is based on the “box” surrounding the object--work properly only for symmetric objects. I’m getting the new 990; therefore considering getting Designer Plus v9 (although I have a Mac with M1 chip limiting virtual machine options)-I will do it if it can do the thinks I do in mySewNet, but no dealer knows enough to help me decide. I can always make an SVG in AI. Your demo shows potential for my fussy cut issue-I’ll start a 30d trial once I understand how to use it better-Thanks
The Bernina software creates placement and or cutting lines on the line you digitize, and centers the cover stitch (e.g. Satin, or Blanket) over these lines by default. There are options to offset any of these lines, You can then use the placement line or the cutting line as a basis for creating your cutting files. In fact you can export SVG files of an applique with just a few clicks of your mouse. See this video czcams.com/video/P2shSQnbZms/video.html So you can work both ways. If you were using your Scan'n'cut file, you would use the cut line to create the applique. As for measuring, the size of a design is measured by width and height. You can also check the size of individual objects. Resizing objects can be done proportionally by dragging corner handles, or by entering a new measurement in the transform tool box. You can also resize by a percentage of the original. To resize just the width, or just the height you can drag the side selection handles or unlock proportional scaling in the transform tool box and alter the width and height independantly. There is also a measuring tool that you can use to measure between any two points.
Thanks for the info..the problem I’m having can likely be fixed by the offset-I had a butterfly with antennas and b/c the resize is done by x and y only, the antenna placement was shifting on the round head (only object lines symmetric across the x or y planes get adjusted correctly-not a problem for larger objects
That sounds like a really weird way of resizing. When you resize in Bernina, you select all the objects you want to resize and then use one of the methods I previously discussed. All the objects then resize together keeping their relative positions.
Another ?-when you change to *.art files-does the size remain true?
Yes the size remains true.
Great-thanks again!
Thanks for post this great demo-I’m trying to decide which software to go with--when you were selecting and deleting objects front the *.pdf, could you have selected them from the object list on the left rather than trying the click in the correct spots? Additionally (I use AI) can you click off the eyeball-making layers not visible, can you select or delete only what is visible?
Hi Karen, The Art Canvas part of the Bernina Designer Plus software is Corel Draw SE embedded in the software. SE being for Special Edition. It does not have all of the tools of the full version of Corel Draw, but has more than enough for embroidery digitizers. You can also open the Corel SE as a stand alone software if you just want to work on graphics for a while. You can select objects from the Objects Docker which displays the objects in their layers. You can hide layers, (the eyeball) You can also block layers from being printed or exported. You can also hide and or lock individual objects or groups of objects that are on the same layer. I do not do a lot of work with graphics, but I am sure you would be able to achieve what you described.
@@CarolUndy thanks again..thus far you seem to be the only person I’ve found who is knowledgeable on this part of the software..there may be more-I just haven’t come across any

Glad you enjoyed it. I have another in the pipeline for users of Designer Plus only, but have something different to do first. If you are subscribed, and you have turned on notifications you will hear about it.
Thank you again! Do you think the upgrade to Version 9 from 8 is worth the money?
Choosing to upgrade or not is really a personal decision. Some things to consider are :- How much do you use your software and do you enjoy the process. What are your current computer specs and what operating system are you using. While V8 is still working fine on Windows 11 this may not always be the case. In V8 the Corel version that runs Art Canvas is not upgraded for Windows 11 so at some stage that part of the software may stop working. Check the computer system requirements for V9 on the Bernina website to see if your current computer will run V9. In theory you could keep V8 running on a computer running Windows 10, but after 14 October 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for Windows 10. Your PC will still work, but it would not be safe to use it to access the internet. The new features in V9 are outlined in the release notes which you can access via the Bernina website. I have made some CZcams videos about most of them. Check my V9 Playlist here czcams.com/play/PL4w5132BrS486M3EK4in_tHmMz05GbX_Y.html Of course there are always small changes that are not obvious until you start using the software. So far Bernina has allowed owners of the software to upgrade from a few versions back, but this may not always be the case. If you love using the software, but don't think V9 is offering you anything you need, you could take the risk of waiting for V10 to see what that offers, but it may mean you have to purchase it outright which won't save you any money in the long run. And life is short. Choose your priorities according to what makes your life better and what you can afford.
@@CarolUndy Thank you for your thoughtful and informative answer. I did not know about Windows 10 not being supported after 10/14/25! For now I will stick with what I have, as it appears I may have to upgrade computers sooner than I had anticipated. I’ll save my money for that! Version 8 is plenty for what I do at this time. I still enjoy learning all that I can accomplish with what I have. Your videos are so inspiring. Grateful to be one of your You tube students.
Very informative tutorial Carol really enjoyed watching 1 and 2.
Thanks for this video. Helpful for edge to edge quilting mod you have or are you planning to Create any videos that show how to place quilting designs around an applique? Thanks
You might like to watch this video. It was done in V8, but the tool is also in V9. I used an embroidery as an example, but there is no reason why it wouldn't work around an applique design. czcams.com/video/SPansk1FQTM/video.html
I cannot seem to make branching work for me. i can think how i would do it manually, but when i try to use the branching feature i get weird added HUGE sections of block stitching outside of my design, cannot figure out why!?

I have been watching your digitizing videos for V9 software. I want to learn how to digitize a logo. Do I use the same techniques you used in the 4 videos of you digitizing the bunny? I would like to see you digitize a logo. Thanks! Your videos are excellent!
Logos vary so much. They may include lettering or not. Having said that the basic principles of digitizing apply. Have a go with what you have learned from the bunny videos and if you get stuck you will then have a more specific question to ask. If you have a specific logo you need to digitize and need help, I am now offering one on one zoom meetings. There is a charge for these. You can learn more about that here. tidycal.com/carolalisonundy
I love how your Triple Stitch/4 laid into the first row... Looks beautiful... Just a question please - would use use cotton sewing thread to stitch this?
I used polyester. If you want to use cotton, it must be the same weight as polyester embroidery thread.
You are the best! I am just learning and found you. I have learned so much in 2 days! Plus I make bears!! Among other things. 🥰
Thank you I am pleased I have helped you. Happy Digitizing.
Hallo please tell me I did a design a couple of years back. Size 26cm wide it is a bird and the wings and feathers is in satin stitch. Now the client want it 45cm wide and I did make it 45cm and the outlines was way off. What must i do? thank you
Is the outline not sitting on the edge, and if that is the case, is that happening in the software or when you stitch it? When you have large designs, the pull from the stitches increases and so the objects do not stitch to the size of the digitizing. Increasing the pull compensation can help if the difference is not too much, but if that is not enough to fix it you need to reshape the objects to compensate for the pull. This video will explain that in more detail. czcams.com/video/pUzG8YwxnTs/video.html If this is not your problem then can you give me some more detail please? How did you enlarge the design, and what do you mean the outline is way off?
@@CarolUndy thank you I will do the changes
