Tanks for that 😂 Got the same problem, you're a legend 👍
Another 3,000 miles on since I did this and the rattle has not returned.
So you don't replace the large o-ring that is used on the seal plate?
Checked it and it was in excellent condition, so didn't replace it (a replacement did not come with the oil filter but I do have plenty of 'o' rings if it had been needed).
@@ridetheslowlane6642 Thanks for the response. I replaced it today (because I am a paranoid and mechanically inept rider). It's a quirky bike. Oil level window is like staring into the great void, but everything seems to be fine. Ride on!
My rattle is coming for INSIDE the tank. Any ideas?
Not had that problem (yet!)
I do hope that you find your new Classic 500 as good as I find my 2018 Classic 500. Looking forward on a review later on.
An update video of how you find in the bike after running it in would be great
Thanks. I am not very good at making videos but I will try to post an update soon.
At one point it showed me error E05 on Bosch Maxx 7, after a while the hose from the valves burst. I didn't knew that trick. I just tried to clean the holes with a small nail. of the shower. Thanks a lot, I'll try it.
What a great tip, i will look into this solution of yours on my bike. I own a 2018 Classic 500 that got 19400km on the odo by now and the bike has worked flawless all the time. Once again thanks for the tip.
I've happily subscribed to your channel. I believe you're offering a fresh approach to issues that many have just accepted. I've owned my Classic 500 since 2015 and the rear wheel alignment still perplexes me. In the end, what was the ultimate solution for you? Was it just aligning the the rear axel to be parallel to the swingarm pivot bolt with your custom tool, or were there other considerations such as the alignment between the front and rear wheels. Thank you.
Thanks for subscribing. I just thought I would try to video my approach to trying to deal with any difficulties I have with my bike as they arise and wheel misalignment was a major frustration. I made the tool because I found messing around with string lines and long straight edges was difficult and was taking absolutely hours. With the tool, I can now set the rear wheel in minutes. The tool only sets the rear axle parallel to the swing arm pivot. On my bike it does seem to result in the rear wheel ending up in line with the front wheel BUT that may not be the case with other bikes. It all depends upon how straight the frame was built by the factory and upon any wear or misalignment of the plastic swing arm and its bushes. Forget chain sprocket alignment - it cannot be adjusted and will always just follow the swing arm when the sprocket carrier nut is tightened because of the quick detach wheel design. My bike also had a tilt on one or other wheel but it corrected when I loosened and retightened all the engine mounting bolts, so there must have been some twist in the frame when the engine was bolted in. I don't think anyone bothered about wheel alignment when my bike was assembled!
Thank you so much, Sir! You helped thousands of us!))) ❤
Thank you, another addition to my knowledge of my 500 EFI. Much appreciated!
I Love my 2018 Classic 500. I have only 4,800 kilometres on it now. It makes so many noises this gives me an idea where one of the noises comes from and how I can deal with it. Thank you! In my part if Canada my bike is now parked until temperatures rise to above freezing and thus safe to ride again. That means I have time to do this! Thank you!
An interesting video, I have the same problem with my 500 Tribute black with 8000 miles on it.
Great, thank you for the video! It is a good feeling to have an idea where rattling noises may have their origins. Compared to not even having a notion.😅 Congrats for having removed another annoying noise.
RE Classic 500 EFI Euro4 petrol tank has developed an increasingly loud rattle at certain engine revs. The buffers on my bike seem to be made of hard fibre rather than compliant rubber and they have worn after only 3,250 miles. This is how I removed the tank, what I found and, in the absence of better improved aftermarket parts, attempted to fix the problem. I might try to source some suitable compliant rubber to make new buffers in the future but this is working well for now.
Great video - love the idea of preventative maintenance - would love to see some more along a similar vein.
Thank you for your kind comments. If you are interested, an Aussie going by the name of RandomRides on CZcams has recently started a series of hints and tips videos for these bikes.

Hi great vidio i to have the same problem with my bullit adjusters are useless i got a tip from one of the indian users measuring the distance from the adjuster nut to the end of the adjuster bolt i to had my bike pulling to the right not to bad now but just cant get it perfect
Nice video sir I have the same bullet 500 it's a real beast.
How do you put the face back on?
Sorry but I don't know what you are referring to.
Thanks for your great effort and solution of this little but important problem. A simple solution which makes life so much easier. Keep on sharing your good ideas. 😊
Thank you, excellent advice! I also have a stealth black Classic 500, although I have added a bit of chrome here and there. I will follow these procedures, makes a lot of sense, cheers.
Great vid, good mods. Shame they can't do that in the factory, but sorting that and other build quality issues would no doubt drive the price up somewhat.
Good video...bike belongs in a skip...indian shite
what bike would you suggest then?
@@paulhoughtonhhoughton9188 kawasaki, honda, yamaha, triumph...just to name a few
They are what they are - either loathe them or love them. I enjoy my bikes, including my Honda, which is excellent, yet, strangely, my Enfields are ridden the most!
Yup!
It is most certainly not shite, and if you had done your homework you wouldn’t be saying that, sad really.
The two studs on the gauze filter, are they just the two bolts which came fitted to the bike, but with the heads sawn off?
No. I used longer stainless steel studs because the original bolts do not reach the bottom of the threaded holes in the engine casing.
Good common sense mods mate - thank you very much for posting this.
Looking forward to viewing more of your travels with the 500.
Nice tool! 🙌🏻
Hood tops. Thanks. How did you lock in the studs? Lock tight?
Blue loctite.
Thank you for this, great tip!
The main rattle l had was my teeth! Miss the old thumper though. Thanks for the video sir
A great job, thoughtfully executed. However, the standard pipe is quite restrictive, especially the double skinned down pipe. There are a couple of suppliers who provide exhaust systems designed for the 500 efi. I have one fitted on my 500, and the difference was noticeable. The EMU copes perfectly well and I have experienced no adverse effects. I thought you may like to know. Great channel by the way.
Thanks. Nice to know that the aftermarket exhausts actually make a noticeable difference.
Brilliant 👍
I am aligning the rear wheel by measuring the distance between the center of the wheel axis to the end of the swing arm back plate on both sides of the bike. I just use a ruler. If the distances are equal, it is fine. I agree, i consider the marks as useless.
I’m a bit confused, (easily done!) Are you saying when tightening the axle locknut the sprocket nut is turning too and this is swinging the whole of that side forward? Surely just using a spanner on the sprocket nut to hold it in place while torquing the axle nut would alleviate the problem.
No. Once the chain sprocket stub axle nut is tight, it doesn't move and the stub axle won't rotate as it has flats to locate in the swingarm to stop it turning whilst it's nut is tightened. What was happening on my bike was that the true axle (which is a looses fit within the stub axle so that wheel alignment is possible) was being forced out of line by the true axle nut walking as I was tightening it.
@@ridetheslowlane6642 Ah, got it. Thank you.
Very good solution, l have the same problem......
I bought a cheap tool of E-Bay that is magnetic. You place it on the rear wheel next to the sprocket, there’s a rod that go by the chain, by which you can see if the wheel is out of line.
As I've explained, chain alignment tools do not work with the Royal Enfield quick detach rear wheel because the chain sprocket is always in line with the swingarm even though at the same time the rear wheel can point anywhere! Thanks anyway.
I have had a similar problems, I will try your solution. Thank you.
i have managed to track down and purchase a 2016 desert storm 500 total milage 23 only , yes these 500s with very low milage are about as rare as hens teeth , i hope you will enjoy your new 500 .
Thank you, sir, for recounting your experience with Royal Enfield motorcycles. Your account was really useful and well-delivered. Years ago I put many miles on a really pretty, little BSA 250 cc, single cylinder Starfire. I loved that bike on the twisting, narrow roads around my home in Kentucky's Cumberland Plateau. I then "graduated" to a 650 cc Thunderbolt twin which was a fine machine. But almost immediately I realized how much I preferred singles. Before I die I'd love to ride a Royal Enfield 500. I used to fantasize about a Matchless G-80cs 500 scrambler. It was a revelation when I first saw Royal Enfield.
Worth a try. Thanks.
Thankyou dear
Much as I appreciate that your frame may have been twisted out of line by poor engine installation (a drawback I guess of the engine being a stressed member), are you sure you are carrying out the straight edge procedure correctly? On my bullet Trials 500 the front and rear tyres have different widths....the front being narrower than the back. Using a straight edge as I think you have used it in the video ( tyre sidewall front to tyre sidewall rear) without accounting for the width difference is bound to lead to alignment inaccuracy. Check the other side and I suspect that it will be a mile out. Of note however, on my bike, even with the tyre widths accounted for, it still pulls to one side....I've given up!
I used two straight edges, one on each side of the rear tyre and looked at both the line of the edges and also measured the gap of each edge from the each side of the front wheel, so yes, I have used the technique correctly. It is really tedious to do. Thanks anyway!
Very creative. Good job 👏
These single cylinder g model mskes one of d best sound ever
How long are these bikes being built? It's simply not good enough this day and age.lovely bike pity sounds cheap build.
@@michaelmurdock4607 Thanks for replying .It's the norm these days quality hard to find
@@johnroddy8756These bikes are mass produced nearly 800000 a year , may be 100s will have some problems here and there. I had worse problems with my ducati and harley too and the A.s.s too lot of time to identify and solve it. There are 1000s of them running fine. Even Rolex has problems straight out of Ad
I've have similar frustrations on my 2020 Bullet 500 Trials. Your sliding point tool assumes that the frame accuracy forward of the swing arm pivot right down to the headstock and front fork/wheel is going to be perfect. I have concluded that it is not. My latest method involves a steel straight edge with stand offs to get the measuring points on the rear wheel higher up (by clearing the mainstand).. and then measuring back to the front wheel on both sides front and back. It's a right faff that I have wasted hours working on....and guess what?..the bike still pulls to one side. I've actually given up trying to better the results that I have obtained and concluded that the frame and or wheels are manufactured to very lax standards of accuracy. Such is the quality of this model of motorcycle....It ain't perfect that's for sure!
Thanks for your comments. If the frame is off line forward of the swingarm pivot, then, as you say, my tool will not help. Luckily for me, the tool (quick to use) and a straight edge (tedious and slow to use) give the same result on my bike. Not the best quality but I still love the bike!
I think I would just buy a nice Hitchcock Motorcycles exhaust. A lot lighter and sound amazing!
Thinking about it - if only they did the stainless steel bottle 'silencer' in black!
Enjoy your new bike. Our weather is just warming up over here in South Australia
Thanks. Our riding season is short and our Summer temperatures in the North of England are usually not much higher than your Winter temperatures, so I am making the most and thoroughly enjoying this bike.
@ridetheslowlane6642 We have some long distances here, a couple of years ago I bought a Goldwing and I have done some nice long interstate trips on it, some with my wife. I did test ride a 500 royal enfield a few years back and found it very vibes. But I notice some have ridden long distances on them, e.g The Bullet Wanderer. How do you find the vibration? Some say it varies bike to bike. Cheers Stephen
It's a 500cc single without a balancer shaft, so it vibrates (look at the annoying rattle fixed video to see how damaging it can be). However, having owned three earlier Bullets (2 iron barrelled and 1 Electra X lean burn), this one vibrates less and I don't find the vibration a problem riding up to 200 miles in a stint. Tolerance of vibration is personal though and some examples may well vibrate more than mine does.
@ridetheslowlane6642 I appreciate that, maybe I should look at the new 350.
Everyone I know who has the new J platform 350 has previously owned the older 500 UCE EFI similar to mine and they all seems to prefer the new 350. I am happy with my bike though.
Is that a gear indicator next to the left handlebar mirror?
You've got keen eyes! It's a bicycle speedo gadget just there so that I can see the time. One day I will replace it with a proper motorcycle clock.
sir....do you have an idea on how to stop my royal enfield classic 350 from leaking petrol around the fuel petcock....i think my petcock o ring just got flattened
Sorry but I cannot help you.
