Even as a kid this scene pissed me off. I get the whole point is that Homer doesn't know how to do his job and we're supposed to sympathize with Grimes, but why would you keep repeating the number at Homer when he clearly doesn't know what it means. Yes, he's supposed to know what he means, but he doesn't, so wouldn't it be more efficient to just skip the shorthand bullshit instead of trying to will the information into his brain like a pretentious asshole?

Homer is annoyingly unfunny and rude relative to how he usually is, not only making it less enjoyable to watch, but making the episode's point about the world treats Homer less relevant.

  • @definitelynotthequestion5359

Homer is an idiot, but Frank is even worse. Homer never had any ill will towards Frank, while Frank became consumed by anger and envy. Frank decided to get "revenge" on Homer by trying to humiliate him. Therefore, Frank is "more" in the wrong.

I disagree with grimey on whne he calle homer a fraud, but in this specific scene he has a reason to hate him, chewed off his pen, eat his launch, was about to kill himself but grimey saved him and that resulted in him being yelled at by burns and getting half his paycheck cut, and homer never even bothered to call him by his real name

Everyone says Frank Grimes is the main Antagonist/Villain of Homer's Enemy I think Homer Simpson and Mr. Burns or Monty Burns are the villains because one is an irritating buffoon who caused Frank Grimes to kill himself imitating Homer and Mr. Burns has the same traits has Homer but Magnified and made ten times worse due to his evil and malignant nature and senility Frank Grimes was the victim not the villain but if he was a big IF he was the Main villain/Antagonist by proxy and due to the show's sadist humour.

Grimes simply isn't very sympathetic. Homer isn't Peter Griffin. He does not really deserve this level of hatred. He actually tried to be Grimes friend and his only offense is that he is a simpleton. Grimes real problem is that he is an asshole.

I think this is what is known as authority tests. Homer is innately drawn to this new influence because Frank's presence indicates seniority I see this kind of stuff all the time. Especially with kids. They want to know whether play is suitable. Only in my experience, play is a condition of responsibility well met We can play all day so long as chores are fufilled. Frank has not established the severity of his career prospects, so Homer is aloof. And Frank, while we learn has reason to be on his game, he is overly paranoid His pitfall is assuming that others will act responsibly because of the implications of adulthood. Again the reason why parents spank their children is in the interest that they will conduct themselves in a paragon fashion. Act with sense out in public Frank misses an opportunity to correct Homer because be does not find that to be his responsibility to do so on behalf of other adults Unfortunately for him, when you elect yourself to work for others, the precedent is that eventually you will raise up and adopt some command. Which requires that you steer others with your dominion Frank is assuming that the playing field is level. When in reality, the only practical use Mr Burns has for any of his employees is how they will police themselves into making him oodles of money. What is Frank doing with that sextant that truly manifests into beaucoup dollars? This is why rote work is so troublesome. Much ado over nothing with no means to furnish a sense of authority

I've seen comments in the past where people defend Homer and say "He at least tried to make friends with him and invite him to dinner and Grimes got even more angry at him that's not fair" And I almost want to say "OK CLEARLY you've never had a student peer/coworker who's acted as dysfunctional as Homer"
