    I have that exact knife! I found it at Ossian Hardware in Ossian, Indiana. The covers are Winterbottom jigged brick red bone, and it has fluted bolsters and nickel silver pins and liners. This Case Select series was produced in 2013. The series consisted of eight different patterns and 250 of each were produced. It is a VERY special knife and we're lucky to have them! This style of jigging was developed by Samuel Winterbottom and was also used by Queen and Schatt & Morgan.

    when you own both it's hard to not want to grab the 110. If you're a man it just feels perfect in hand if a bit heavy, but I prefer heavy because you tend to wield knives with heavy handles a lot safer. All the new thin handled knives suck in the ergo department. as for the finger grooves I own a buck with/without and honestly.... it's just so comfortable without grooves the grooves are almost distracting in hand. I do prefer 110 > 112 the 112's blade just feels short when you own both

    2:43 you lost me. BTW, the offshore Buck knives HAVE THE SAME FOREVER WARRANTY AS THE KNIVES MADE IN IDAHO. Buck stands behind the warranty on the offshore knives, as well. Also, unlike Case and other US Manufacturers (GEC, Bear & Son, Schatt & Morgan, Colonial, etal) you DO NOT have to be the original owner with proof of purchase for the warrantee/guarantee to be valid. Rough Rider (and SMKW's other brands; Marbles, Queen, Queen City, Novelty Knife, Old Forge, etc.) have a Lifetime Warranty/Guarantee, as well. Like Buck, SMKW does not care if you are the original owner, or if you found the knife out in the woods (or on the bottom of a pond/lake/crick/stream/river) decades after the knife was lost. SMKW sands behind the warranty/guarantee, as well. I had a old, no MR number Marbles MR409 US Hawkbill, for roughly 9 or 10 ten years. I paid $5.99 for it plus free dealer shipping on Amazon. The knife was in a wood cigar boz, blade closed, when I had a stroke. 2.5 years after the stroke, I got the cigar box of knives. The Marbles Hawkbill suffered a busted backspring sometime during the years it was in that cigar box. I contacted SMKW in an email, included a picture of the knife and broken spring. They sent me a replacement, no charge for postage. They did not want the old knife sent in. A year or two later, I bought a Marbles MR275 DEMO Knife with a no MR Number Marbles SPORK. The MR278 is a 4 blade 2 spring knife. When I received that knife and SPORK set, they were in a hang-pack. The knife had all four blades partly opened. As you might have guessed, that is an EXCELLENT way to break a backspring on a Demo/Scout/Engineers knife. Sure enough, the knife had a broken spring BEFORE I took it out of the hang pack. Another email to SMKW telling them what happened with a picture of the broken spring, they sent a replacement, again at no charge, including a new SPORK, even though I told them there was nothing wrong with the SPORK, and I would be overjoyed if they jus replaced the MR278, without a SPORK or other accessory. Again, they did not want the broken knife sent in. The MR278 is $6.99 plus shipping. (some Amazon dealers offer it with free shipping) With the SPORK, it was $9.99(?). If something happens to my CASE or GEC knives, because I a NOT the original owner, and do not have proof of purchase - they were gifted to me, they are NOT under Warranty. Obviously, the Case and GEC's cost a heck of a lot more than my Marbles, Rough Rider/Ryder, and BUCK, both Idaho made and offshore. From my experience, the quality of the Rough Rider/Ryder, Marbles, and COLT knives I fave are as good as or better than Case and my Buck 301s. Honestly, the quality is on a par with my vintage pre-2004 Imperial-Schrade Old Timer and Ulster, the four GEC I have, and the Sheffield, England and Solingen, Germany pen knives I have. Offshore knives contracted by whoever, are made to the quality specified in the contract. It does not matter what the country they are contracted in is. That fact remains. The Asian, Indian, Japanese, Pakistan, or wherever manufacturers can make high quality knives - or knife shaped objects, that if you have enough of them in a burlap or canvas bag might make a useable anchor for a canoe or float tube. It depends on the quality the company contracting for the knives wants. Also, a common objection to knives made in China is the person does not want to support that government. This isn't the 1950s. The Chinese government does NOT own all the manufacturing in that country - or even a large percentage of the manufacturing, any more than the USA, Canadian, Russian, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Pakistan, Indian, or Korean, and Vietnam governments do. Truth: If you buy a knife or anything else made offshore or an "American"company, you re still supporting that American company. Those who say "I'll NEVER buy anything made in China ..." are delusional. Unless they drive a car no newer than 1978, don't have a computer, cellphone/smart phone, a TV or radio made after 1985, take one of numerous prescription AND OVER THE COUNTER medications (Aspirin, for one!) they have something made in China. Al the electronic controls in cars made since 1979, made in China. As a matter of fact, the US has not manufactured a single transistor since roughly 2000. Silicon Valley DESIGNS electronic components now. They no longer manufacture them. Apple/Mac are MADE in China, Assembled in Mexico. The electrical harnesses for domestic cars are made in Mexico. The leather for the upholstery comes from Argentina, and the upholstery itself are made there, as well. Engines can come from several offshore sources, both European and Asian. Ford/GM/Chrysler have not been 100% Made in USA for going on two generations. If you buy a knife or whatever made in China or any other country, the only time your money goes to the government is when the company pays their taxes. Just like the only time the money you spent for that new Ford/GM/Chrysler goes to the US government is when they (a) pay their taxes and (b) if they make a payment on one or more of the government bail-out loans they received. My RR198 is due to arrive today. I have no doubt it will be as good as my other Rough Rider/Ryder, Marbles, COLT, Ulster, BTI Schrade, and one GEC 14 Barlow I am planning on pairing the RR198 with my RR139 large Sleeve Board Smooth White Bone Sunfish.

  • @mauriciolacruz

    I think that the more aggressive protruding bolster on the 112 is an extra safety design to prevent the index finger from accidentally moving forward so you could suffer a cut, since the handle of that knife, being smaller, is not fully covered by your hand. In the 110 this does not happen, because the handle is larger, the hand covers it completely and there is not so much risk that the index finger could end up "caressing" the blade. I have several units of the 110 and indeed it seems to me an extraordinarily solid knife.

  • @wes326
    @wes326 Před rokem

    I think a sheath for folding knives defeats the purpose. Nice for storage, though. The smaller one would be better for EDC. The 110 was originally designed to be an alternative to a fixed blade hunting knife.

      Not really....when you're outside every day and working really hard, it's a PIA to keep reaching in your pocket....sheaths makes a huge difference. Sheath knives morphed into tool knives etc, but originally, the larger folders were great in hip sheaths.
