HiSpec tanker gets cracked chassis repaired
In this video I repair the chassis on a HiSpec slurry tanker.
The chassis had cracked on both sides where the spring hangers had been welded on, a bit of a poor design and the fact the bar from one side to the other had broken out resulted in there being too much flex.
I gouged out the crack with the plasma and grinder then welded back up. To add extra strength into the area and transfer the load further up into the chassis I cnc plasma cut some plates out, pressed them to shape then weld over the affect area. Gussets from the spring hangers onto the new plates were then welded in. The ends of the old broken tube were cut out and a new replacement tube was welded in.
The same process was then repeated at the back due to cracks starting to emerge there also.
Last job was to weld up a crack that had starter on the end of the tanker where the boom folded up into. This was also plasma gouged out and rewelded with an extra gusset added in.
Hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching.

In this video I finished the job of repairing the New Holland baler cranks. Firstly the jig needed line boring to size, to do this I used the new S power line borer. After the 2 end supports were done, I transferred the jig onto the Huron milling machine to bore the centre support to size. This completed the jig. Next up I test fitted the crank into the jig to ensure it fit and also to get some...

That PEX tubing shouldn’t off-reel/ recoil but then who’s to say that’s all the tubing that reel will be used for. The more serious question will be weather or not the depth of your ground insertion will be strong enough to allow you to un coil as you roll out in the ground. “ Stub shaft” is called a spindle in America. The spud with the bearings is called a “ hub”. I would’ve put that curved piece inside the ground blade and left the back side open, but that’s me. I still think you’re gonna have some issues with that pex spooling into your blade.

That work really strengthened the tanker. A big IF but if it ever did come back then some diagonal braces from the bottom of the suspension leg up to chassis on the opposite side should help. Scary to see so much cracking on such a relatively machine.

Olly, that second ring down was installed incorrectly . ( duh!. ) just thot you needed my take on the subject. We would call that correction of a potential mistake before it happens as a “Good Catch”. So Olly,. Good Catch! Your work is brilliant. But your shop is no where near as representative of the work you do. I realize Snowball Engineering is a family business, and if it’s just you and your dad running the place that’s something you have to consider when it comes to renovation, but you gotta see your working environment is potentially comprimizing your work. I(we) are all amazed at what you get done with what you have to work with. I’ve owned three businesses, started out working for my dad at 14 and we stretched it as far and cheap as we could. Sound familiar? If you’re a “one man band” then you need to develop a mentorship program, and make it work (regardless of the expense, and the brutal learning curve that may occur). Your talents are not being utilized to their fullest potential and your quality control should be the standard you build by. Been there, it hurts. OR you can be real happy with what you’re doing now!… also been there!

You did a great job designing and fitting those reinforcement plates and gussets. Hi-Spec wishes it looked like that when it left their fab shop. Looks to me like the running gear was built too wide (~60mm overall) for the chassis channels that carry the tank. The inside and outside edges of the spring hangers weldment plates were supposed to flush up with the inside and outside edges of the chassis channels. Instead, each weldment plate got pushed ~30 mill to the outside of the correct chassis mounting position. You blew the spec on this tanker Hi-Spec
