if the horse is backing off of the bit and is light in the contact flexing at the poll, we open our fingers and then the horse will start to stretch down. This is how we train the free walk.

Free walk
zhlédnutí 68Před 21 dnem
The free walk is allowing the horse to chew the reins out of the hands at a walk, while keeping it straight seeking the bit and tracking up from behind. The hard part is gathering the reins after the free walk and hoping the horse does not throw its head or jig.
Chewing the reins out of the hands
zhlédnutí 289Před 21 dnem
First, we asked the horse to flex at the poll with what is called direct flexion or just feeling the bit. If the horse doesn’t respond to that, then we move the bit a little bit to get the horse to chew the bit. Once the horse flexes at the poll then we open our fingers and allow them to stretch down. This is how we get the horses to chew the reins out of our hands. Once the horse knows how to ...
Asking the horse to flex at the poll with direct flexion to chew the reins out of the hands
zhlédnutí 155Před 21 dnem
First, we asked the horse to flex at the poll by feeling the bit and getting them to chew the bit, which then gets them to flex at the poll. Once we’ve taught the horse to flex and we allow them to stretch (flex then stretch) we then ask the horse flex at the poll and then stand there backing off of the bit. This is the horse accepting the contact. We teach them to flex allow them to stretch, f...

Dressage training is done on straight lines and circles
zhlédnutí 35Před 2 měsíci
We train horses to become relaxed, rhythmic, and round on circles in both directions. And then we test if we can keep the horse relaxed, rhythmic and round on the straight lines. Once we master the straight line, then we start to add leg yielding, sitting trot 10 m circles and then out of the 10 m circles comes shoulder in… This rider is still working on establishing a consistent connection wit...
Longitudinal motion at the walk
zhlédnutí 62Před 2 měsíci
I learned about longitudinal motion, reading a Charles de Kunffy book, and I’ve been teaching it ever since. The horse’s top line gets longer and shorter at the walk and at the canter. So as dressage riders since we ride on contact, we have to follow with our elastic elbows…. The struggle is we are so busy trying to get the horse on the bit that we forget to also follow. One of the nuances of d...

    These are my neighbors George and Amera Felder. They bought our family horse farm 21 years ago and I could not have asked for better neighbors and now beloved friends. The Andelusian stallion is Imperador. He is the complete gentleman and I just adore him. I've have seen him grow from a yearling into a wonderful example of his breed.

    soft riders hands are a myth, a mindfuck, especially, when they learn or when they fall down from their horses. The internet is offering plenty of examples of bad horsemanship even in national dressage teams. Riders are pulling and yanking on the reins, especially when they are angry with their horses. Generally the horses are showing more discipline than most of their riders.

    what are the aids to getting your horse on the bit?

  • @horsemanhorseman8913
    @horsemanhorseman8913 Před 9 lety

    There is no such thing as a circle of aids! Energy does not circulate within the body of a mammal. It is created by muscles and cannot be "captured" by the bit! What you can do however, is train your horse to move forward to a single leg aid, and maintaining a SOFT contact with the hands so you can communicate your wished to him by squeezing the reins like a lemon is squeezed. That in itself is a LANGUAGE you need to teach. The horse will then "carry" himself in self carriage and any further activity you need from the inside hind leg for example will be obtained with the application of a GENTLE touch of the leg/spur ONCE. Horses do NOT need maintenance aid to hold their posture of movement. Once achieved "Decent des Aids" applies.

  • @horsemanhorseman8913
    @horsemanhorseman8913 Před 9 lety

    What nonsense!! To activate the inside hind leg all you need to do is maintain a SOFT LIGHT contact with both reins and just touch the inside flank of your horse with your spur ONCE and that will do the trick. You might need to remind him now and then but please don't nag him with every stride as this rider is doing. Its not necessary as the horse should already be trained to listen to a single leg aid. If he isn't so trained, then train him.

    Hi. I've been watching some videos from Bernie Traurig and this position differs very much from what he teaches. Is that because he is teaching a more forward seat for jumping, while this is for dressage?

  • @Elerian17
    @Elerian17 Před 10 lety

    Do you have any scientific evidence to back up your claim that it is okay to keep the horse deep? I strongly doubt it. On the other hand, there is plenty of evidence against it (and for riding the horse down-FORWARD in the early training). if the rider has a "hard time" to keep light contact with the reins, he needs to work more on his balance and muscle relaxation (with reins only from the noseband).
