I had a really clean one it looked brand new but it was so slow made no power
Nothing from this century, unfortunately 😢
@HeldIntegral - most of the bikes there were either huge American cruisers, Triumph Rockets or these as the average ages of the rider was 40s to 50s.
110hp on the backwheel with a Slip on✊🔥fun motor much grunt…
Mine was a Japanese import 2 valve ; 41mm forks , disc braked with an added CR500 ( I think ) shock minus the silly linkage . CB250RS 28mm carb & suitable cam / exhaust ... Another bike I regret selling . Did I mention the oversized oil cooler ?
I'm doing a little bit of body work on my Kawasaki rear fender, and I hate to say it but most of these plastic parts are "ABS" plastic. So what I had done was I went to the plumbing supply store and picked up some "Oatey" ABS cement, which is pretty much ABS dissolved into acetone. When you "glue" your ABS plumbing pipes together what actually happens is the acetone dissolves the pipe material and the pipes "melt" into each other. Shortly thereafter the acetone evaporates away and what you're left with is a pretty solid ABS welded assembly. Solid enough for plumbing purposes, anyway. I put "two and two" together and used the ABS glue to weld up a nasty crack in the fender, then added drips of ABS glue and built-up some worn edges. Sanded it all back smooth (120 grit and 220 grit) & did final finish with some primer suitable for plastic (400 grit wet-sand). "In my opinion" I wouldn't think of repairing ABS any other way: no metal staples or thermo-welding, no epoxy, no other cement. Best part: if you don't believe me, just pick up some shattered ABS pieces from a wrecking yard, and some Oatey ABS cement, & give 'er a whirl. (My thought: if that test doesn't work, it just proves the shattered pieces you got weren't actually ABS). (ABS = acrylonitrile butadiene styrene)
Quick answer, yes, I’ve several and they’re just fun.
Great vid. You were lucky. If wood under centre stand; will it balance to the rear down ?
Great video, I now realise why my Bandit 1200s lights are so poor. Night riding is quite dangerous the lights are so bad... Have you any recommendations for brighter bulbs after doing cleaning the headlight unit?
That XS750 Special is such a good looking bike. I'd hate to think how hard it is to find parts for it but what a cool bike.
@KiwiPokerPlayer - there was some awesome classic bikes there. Unfortunately I didn't get enough pictures of all of them. The XS750 triples are rare as heck and yup bits would be hard to get. I recall they had gearbox issues back in the day, 2nd gear mainly.
Sometimes you find crazy errors in used bikes and the bigger the error, the harder to find it is.😅
Great work! That is a nice bike......
@champ8899 - thank you! It's a rough and ready Bandit and definitely no show-pony but cheap fun! Thanks for watching my video :)
I see your a novice rider👍
@yongkim777 - wouldn't say novice but I don't push myself these days. Me and the XR are old 🤣
I someone having a good ass time!
Love the XR-200R. Classic bike. Nice to see that on a track.
@mark34535 - lots of fun. Not quick by any means but easy to ride. Thanks for watching my video 😎
I rode my XR200 from Auckland to 90 mile beach then bit of forest riding ,solid bike ,got back to Auckland and my mate offered straight swap for his road reg KDX200 cause he said it was a bit much and he loved riding my XR200 R ,prob that last 4 stroke dirt bike i ever had ,found the KDX was a great bike as I had riden MX as a kid lol but lotta XRs back in the day were street bikes lol
@mrivantchernegovski3869 - damn, that's quite a hike on an XR200. They're not a comfy bike! Thanks for watching my video :)
@@motorcyclingkiwistyle Yea lol it was a nice cruze mate had a old Honda SL 125 think that would of been more comfy ,vibrations through feet and hands was epic ,iv seen brighter candles than those XR head lights ,then got a 1974 Suzuki GT 250 ,crashed that ,got a car and kept bikes for dirt ,got a 1996 RMX 250 but its dirt only has RM 250 motor ,shocks forks etc ,goes good ,Blue and white Euro Version I think lol
@@mrivantchernegovski3869 totally agree, the XR headlights totally suck. I don't have a bulb in my one. Just there for show. RMX250s rock. Rode one, absolutely loved it. As it's a follow on model from a 1995, may qualify as eligible for VMX racing.
I have not shown a couple of things, like the soft coin between the crankshaft gear and clutch gear to lock up and stop them spinning when undoing the crank nut or the tedious but necessary scraping off of the old gasket material on the case and clutch cover. The block in the rear wheel is really a backyard way of locking the clutch shaft if you don't have the tool to hold the clutch in place. But it works, but do check the spokes afterwards! Thanks for watching :)
The VX800 is a terrible piece of shite :)
@stevebennett6593 - agree, not Suzuki's finest effort but people that have them love them. I think the worst vtwin Suzuki made has to be the Intruder/Boulevard 1400. Rode one, had no redeeming qualities whatsoever!
I had a 1991 xr200r it was a fantastic machine low on power but super reliable
@user-vm2im8gj7g - yup, definitely not a powerhouse that's for sure, but awesome all the same!! Thanks for watching :)
@@motorcyclingkiwistyle my new bike is the Beta 300rr race edition. So far it’s been great.
Slightly quicker 😉. Everyone I know that's got a Beta loves them. Fantastic bikes. Enjoy 😎
where was the footage of how to re-connect the throttle linkage to the cam set up?
@thevoodoo57 - I go into a little detail on part 7 (czcams.com/video/I8Z9jzKRiGQ/video.html), but essentially the best way to hook it up is have the carbs still half out of the frame. I found out the hard way it is really difficult to do this while the carbs are installed. Just remember there are two places for the normal and return cables. I didn't bother with a return as the spring is pretty damn strong already! Thanks for watching :)
Any collection without a VF1100C is an incomplete collection.
@magna116 - funny you should say that. He actually does have one out the back to be restored! I have some photos of it that will include in a short video. Thanks for watching my videos 😎
That visit was absolutely fantastic! I even surprised myself with how much nerd-knowledge I had. If you're in Upper Hutt, New Zealand do drop in, have a look and a coffee. Richard has a lot of new bikes coming in so I will be doing another update video in the future. Ride safe!
Enjoy seeing those old bikes again, not a lot on the road anymore... great video series of a really good collection.... cheers
@shaneritchie9134 - thank you and I'm glad you enjoy the videos. You're right about some of them not around. That RG500 and CX500TC are rare now.
When i had my KR250 my best mate had an MVX250, that bike was terrible, it blew up twice in the short time he had it, first time it was fixed, second time it went to the wreakers.
@uhtred7860 - they had a design flaw with that 3rd upright cylinder. If I recall, Honda made that conrod small end twice as big as the other 2 cylinder conrods to balance out the vibrations. Also the oil pump wasn't great. Saying that the MVX was a smooth fairly powerful bike to ride. But yes, not a patch on a KR250.
Love the vids really helped me out could u do a vid with removing the fairing and putting back together 🙏 thank you
interesting, good info but hard to concentrate on due to the irritating distracting meaningless soundtrack. Why?
@stevemackie1755 - actually agree with you. I looked again and wondered why I did that! Thanks for your feedback.
A guy i know quite well here in N.P, Alan De Lautour won the 84 Castrol 6 hour (with Dave Martin) on a VF1000F, he's restored one in the same colours as this one.
I remember watching him race when my Dad raced his Kat 1100 WW.
@@motorcyclingkiwistyle He's still pretty handy on his ex Pat Hennen Mk1 RG500 GP bike.😃
I sold my CX650 last year, it was exactly like that one, same colour, even the stickers on the headlight cowling had faded the same way. Was planning on restoring it as it was my father in laws bike for most of its life, but after contacting Honda specialists all over the world, I was told engine parts are VERY hard to find, and it needed a full engine rebuild after going round the clock twice. It still ran, but smoked heavily.
I figured these videos would be of interest to you 😎
CX650Es are really rare. There were a lot of CX400Es around when I was younger.
Nice Video! Big Fan! 😉😉
@IncredibleIndia-Rose6151 - thank you. Love your channel also, young daughter!
Hey Chris, as luck would have my old girl wouldn't run on cylinder 1 when I got her started this year. I tried what I could to clean the carbs without removing them but no such luck. Looks like they'll be coming off. Thanks again for the video - It'll be a source for me as I go.
@grosbeakmc - it doesn't take a lot to block them when they've sat for a while, ay! I stay away from ethanol fuels down here in NZ also. Good luck. Please feel free to share how you get on 😊
I miss my 1983 xr200r!
@Ike - you can find them for sale occasionally. Take the plunge and get another 😊
I recommend using some kind of fishtape or a zip tie to snake ur throttle cable straight down. Then u can jam ur hand inthere and wiggle it over the next obstruction with ur nimble fingers. After that get urself a long 12" pair of needle nose pliers and a headlight so u can get the end of the cable where it needs to go. This is the way to hook up that pesky open cable.
u cn lern to spel properly cuz you look like a git udderwyze.
Güzel abim Türkiye'den herkeze selamlar Bandit tamir video serisini full izledim ve beğendim...1 ay önce bana da almak nasip oldu ilk çalıştırmada motorda homurtu ve eksozdan patlama sesleri geliyor motor sarsıntılı çalışmakta bu çok sıkıcı birşey; sanırım benim motordada karbüratör sorunları var en kısa zamanda halletmem lazım sizce sorun karbüratörmüdür yardımcı olursanız memnun olurum...
@musayldz3351 - first up, thanks for the kind words. Forgive me as I had to use Google Translate. Yes definitely carbs issues. First and foremost, new spark plugs. Also check the caps. New air filter if not already done. These are cheap fixes. If still running rough, then look at rebuilding the carbs. It's actually not that hard. Good luck 😎 öncelikle nazik sözleriniz için teşekkürler. Google Çeviri'yi kullanmak zorunda kaldığım için beni affedin. Evet kesinlikle karbonhidrat sorunu. Her şeyden önce yeni bujiler. Ayrıca kapakları da kontrol edin. Henüz yapılmadıysa yeni hava filtresi. Bunlar ucuz düzeltmelerdir. Hala zorluk yaşıyorsanız, karbonhidratları yeniden oluşturmaya bakın. Aslında o kadar da zor değil. İyi şanlar
Also. You will need to drill a tiny hole in your gas cap to vent and go with a gravity feed fuel valve and make sure to rubber cap the vacuum line port at the T Fitting.
@grabir01 - totally agree there. The standard tap always makes me nervous. I've heard that an FZ1 one fits in without too much trouble. Unsure but will investigate.
Major tips for removal and install of Bandit carb bank. Take it from me that has done Bandit carb banks over 20 times. Here they are. For the cables, loosen the throttle grip and and remove cables from the throttle grip. This will allow a ton of slack so you can easily unload the cables from the carb bank with the carb bank over halfway out making it super easy to remove and install the cables. Way way easier!! Wow! WAY!! For re-install, make sure all clamps are as open as they can be, use a hair dryer on high heat and heat soak the rubber boots and spray a ton of WD40 all over the carb rims and inside the boots to slicken them up. Easy install. When done with the engine side, do the same for the air box boots. Enjoy the ride.
Great video. I'm sure that will help me get the job done.
@craigschickler9777 - glad to help! Thanks for watching my video 🙂
You just got your 3rd like.
A wee way off viral, ay 🤣
Absolutely not!!!!
@wisetow10 - Umm...one of the top 10 then? 🙂
Bought a brand new one in 83 for $1600 a very fun trail bike, still is. Run forever with proper maintenance. 👌
Thanks!! I’ll use this next week when I replace my seals!
@markho9405. - how did you get on with your seals?
Xr250 is the best dirtbike ever made
@danb37 - nearly agree with you. I had a 1990 XR250R. Loved it. I think the 200 just has the charm the 250 doesn't. Thanks for watching my video 🙂
That was a fun series to watch. Thanks!
@dibbledobbledodaday thanks so much. Glad you liked it 🙂
I had a 1996 XR 200, absolutely adored my time riding it.
That's awesome 😎. They're a great bike.
I have an 81 and 82 xr200r and I love both of them!
That's awesome! 😎 Do you race them?
Kind of like the Toyota Hilux of trail bikes.
@daynasmum529 - that's a great analogy :)
My best friend replaced the motor with the CRF230 and it's a beast. The frame lacks the 230's motocross strength, however, in the woods with CRF230 motor nothing cuts like it.
@@shockadellickI got a xr250r and it’s amazing. I’m a taller rider so it fits me great, but still extremely tall. I wouldn’t mind having the 200 as well.
i had a 1981 200R. Fantastic bike, I used to drag race my friends on yz80s and cr80s. the 80cc bikes were actually faster for the 1st 100 feet or so, then the 200R took over
@jeffferguson899 - totally agree. I used to race them back in 1982 on my RM80 and they were pretty close. Thanks for watching my video :)
Honda XR 200R was the best ever
@aronhuffman1788 - can't disagree with you there 🙂. Thanks for watching my video.
Just some other things Ive experienced with my Bandit. The vacuum petcock failed a few years ago at the same time that I had a carb float stick open. Flooded a cylinder and hydro locked the engine. Found out when I tried to start the bike and the engine wouldn’t turn over after a winter storage. I tried rebuilding the OEM fuel petcock but it still leaked. 😡. Ultimately switched the bike over to a manual old school petcock. Not as safe in a crash. But many fewer vacuum lines running all over the place under the tank. With fuel in your oil it might be worth considering. Shutting off the pet cock manually sure limits how much fuel can leak through the carbs if you have a float leaking. Just my opinion… Last summer I still was have trouble with the bike running rough. So now Im pulling the carbs again and looking for something I missed the first time cleaning them. I found missing o rings and washers in the idle set screws that first time around. Been researching on UTube and in exploded view parts diagrams for other small details I might have missed. Going to re check the jets to make sure they’re all the same size. Thanks for the inspiration to get going with working on my bandit. Im looking forward to a great riding season this year.
@davidbenson5451 - first up, thanks for watching my video. Glad I could inspire you to work on yours. Yes, fitting a manual petcock. That's in my winter Bandit hibernation tinker list. I've read that a Yamaha 600 Fazer one fits so will explore that. I did however do the carbs and did a sample oil from the sump check. Looked okay with no fuel smell. But as you say, it's peace of mind.
Thanks for posting these videos. In one of them you made a passing comment about the ignition coils being a weakness in these bikes. I’ve not heard that before. But I might be having an issue with the coils on my ‘02 Bandit 1200. Ive got a cylinder that I think isn’t firing. One exhaust header tube is much cooler than the other three. OEM coils are expensive $100+ USD each. I see aftermarket coilpacks for sale for much less. But Im concerned that theyre low quality. Do you know a reliable aftermarket brand for ignition coils?
@davidbenson5451 - unsure what will fit but am exploring that also. As my Bandit is approaching 110k kms, stuff like coils are on my list as they don't last forever. Dynatek work well but really expensive. Popular opinion is OEM. That way you know they're going to work. Some people go down the cheap Chinese route with varying success. Dunno if I would!
I have a 2nd gen bandit that I’ve been modifying for about 10 years now. This headlight mod was one of the early upgrades I did. When I pulled the housing apart I found the projector lenses to be chipped on the edge from vibration. After some research I found that a Mazda 3 projector lense is the same diameter and morimoto, and aftermarket headlight website, sold them with the claim to be optically clear. That combined with cheap hid setups in each side gave me insanely bright headlights. To the point that my reflection off road signs blinds me.
@livewires8637 - this is fantastic information! I'll definitely look into that. Even after cleaning up the lights, they're still average at best. Thanks for watching my video 🙂
I fitted a basic Maxton rear shock to my metallic green MK1 N and got them to optimise the front forks and it now handles nice. The Nissin callipers are very good after a rebuild with genuine seals and replacement ss pistons a mate made for me. I love my machine but it’s difficult to restrain my throttle hand so it’s not always that cheap to run, but it can be economical, oh well! 😂 I hope you continue to enjoy yours, appreciate your video 👍
@ianhoyle8459 - thanks for the advice. Unsure if Maxton shocks are easy to find down here in NZ but am going to explore other Suzuki rear shocks as a cheap fix. Cheers for enjoying the video :)
Thanks for your reply. Yes a good economic mod is a decent condition replacement rear shock with damping remaining/fork service. As it transformed the ride making my machine a pleasure to ride instead of the original sagging, wallowing heap. Maxton will make suspension components to your specifications by mail if you wanted to spend the money (they are awesome quality) but of course many other options nearer or cheaper for you; YSS? I’ve got just under 60000 miles on the clock now, not so much gearbox whine but these engines are noisy , yours should hopefully be fine being the S model rather than an N (N’s being more abused?) Looking forward to more of your 1200 content 🤘😊
@ianhoyle8459 - I'm going to explore the cheaper option and fit another Suzuki one so as to keep the Bandit inexpensive. Mine has the equivalent of 66,000 miles so pretty close to yours. Good to know that the whine is probably not a big deal. Didn't know that N's get thrashed more. European thing? 🤣 I know a lot of people do convert the S's to n@ked ones.
Replace the standard rear shock with a quality aftermarket one and drop the front forks 15mm in the headstock makes a big big difference to handling
@MegaGrumpyoldman - thanks for the advice. I have also heard that a GSX-R 1000 will fit in there with a little tweaking. Big weight difference between the bikes though. Great advice on the front forks. I'll definitely give that a go. Thanks for watching my video!
