A more artistic addition to the Adventure story arc. Original music representing the combination of the Vulcan IDIC philosophy and the Edenites "One" philosophy, along with various other cultural contributions from the crew. Fits between "Children of the Sea" and "Purpose"...

This time I wanted to show how the average person in the Federation might travel. Probably on Starliners on regular routes, and within the safety of the warp lanes. Star Fleet ships, being relatively fast and well armed, can travel where they will, but personal and commercial traffic (which we rarely, if at all, see in TOS) would primarily reside in the warp lanes. I can't make out what's being said over the blaring music, so I immediately turned it off, except for the Comments section. Don't bother trying to watch this until the music monster has been beaten back into its kennel. The music volume issue really is bad. Even the loveliest music sounds horrible when played too loud. While program theme music isn't always supposed to be in the background, neither is it supposed to drown out program dialog. I don't just click on Star Trek content randomly. I've been a Trekkie since I got to stay up a little later to watch the first run episodes of the original series with my father and older brother. My younger brother was born partway through the first or second season, and later on, he also became a fan while watching the reruns. Although I also like the Star Wars franchise, I like the Star Trek better. It's disappointing when anything I click on has a serious defect, making it unusable, but even more so when it's something that I am really into, like Star Trek. Please lower the music volume about 50 decibels so that I can hear the dialog over the music.

      @@Questor-ky2fv Point taken, but the music not intended to be background music. Compare it to the levels in STTMP leaving drydock scene (link below). The music there is more lush with a full orchestra, but it is definitely upfront. When the dialogue comes in I push the music more into background levels, but the music is there to set a mood, not there as audio filler. There is quite a bit of subjectivity in how to edit both visual and audio components. Figure a shuttle craft TOS version is a deck tall (about 15, with hull and deck thickness) I think the portrayal here is too small. I’ve seen people bash a Constitution Class to make a relatively easy Destroyer or Scout. The basic Adventure would need those bays in the back, but a good modeler could probably do that, especially if they were closed, with not much issue. The Adventure with the alien augments, however, might be relatively easy to get the pieces placed, but lighting it I think might be challenging. I thought about having an Adventure model custom made, there are people who could definitely do that, but I think the cost would be prohibitive for me… Besides, with my virtual model I can take it on whatever adventure I can imagine… I am happy with that… 👍🖖

But Star Fleet is only the Military/Police/Coast Guard arm of the Federation which is a federated democratic republican system. In other words, each planet controls its own affairs within the loose parameters of Federation law (basic rights). In addition each planet has representatives who direct and vote for Federation policy. Gene Roddenbury had the intention of creating a utopian society in which beings went beyond basic economic needs (post-scarcity) and beyond the racial/ethnic/national prejudices which have both plagued human history with conflict, exploitation, and suffering. He used this given utopian society as part of the setting and backdrop for the stories, but not much of the Federation government or even civilian life was ever explored. @@wbnc66 Regarding the tugs, I figured each cargo canister would have a control bridge capable of coordinating the tugs in the convoy. Being modular, the convoy could breakup or combine quite easily then. I put a bridge type structure on the ends of the canisters to represent that idea. Regarding repair, each canister would have a repair/maintenance crew, perhaps having a couple of worker bees in the dock/hanger areas on the side of the canisters. Major repairs could be facilitated by maintenance stations along the warp lane. Regarding defenses, these slow hulks would probably only be used in the well protected warp lanes. The Enterprise, and probably most Star Fleet ships, did not have to use the warp lanes since they would be relatively fast and well armed. So that is probably why we would never see much commercial or private space flight on TOS. I thank you for your comments, it makes me think more about how all this stuff works. Maybe I can do a vid of a convoy stopped for minor repair, worker bees out, and Orion pirates attack. But through procedure, the convoy informed Star Fleet of the stop and repairs , and a couple of Destroyers warp in and kick some Orion butt. In this story the only thing that keeps this ship alive is that it is slightly faster than its enemies. It has a prototype engine that is faster than a Constitution. A Constitution would not have lasted very long. The enemies just have in general more advanced tech than the Federation, making it a miracle a Federation ship lasted as long as it did. That is why the Tranquil gave their advanced defensive tech to the ship, it was the only way they were going to make it through their mission. In general, why a single nacelle ship? In my scenario they need a super fast ship, (it has a prototype engine faster than a Constitution Class), one that can be equipped and launched quickly, and one that will not be noticed if it disappears. It is generally a Scout Class, but easily modified with Destroyer weapons so it is relatively well armed. However, it mission is not to fight, but to “observe, record, survive, report”… To mitigate issues with only one engine, the ship has been modified with a shuttle and a worker bee bay. This combined with new at the time replicators and manufacturing facilities in the ship, would allow them to repair the ship themselves. I actually have a scene in one episode where they repair a damaged nacelle. It’s all fiction anyway, but I think my “Trek logic” is sound enough for a fun little journey in the Trek universe… 😃🖖

      At Warp 3 (27x the speed of light) it would take less than two months to get a shipment from Sol to Alpha Centauri and less than four years to go 100 light years. This would be for non critical bulk cargo, like sending mass goods on ocean cargo vessels now. Not for emergency situations, leave that to Federation Transport with their Warp 7 cargo ships. So, slow, but there probably would be economic incentives for this slower but cheaper mode of transport, just like today with ocean going cargo vessels… 😃👍

    • @bobfischer
      @bobfischer Před 26 dny

      Replicators not widely used in TOS era. Even in later Treks it was established more complex molecular structures could not be replicated. Hand made goods would be highly valued and so would “original” goods. There also might be a sizable market for unreplicated food, since some people could taste the difference, or perhaps have cultural reasons not to eat replicated food. The replication cost in energy and equipment might make physical shipments, especially lower cost bulk shipments, more economically feasible. And speaking of economics, each star system might have a comparative advantage in producing certain types of goods, so that the efficiency in the specialization of production (think of a whole planet that specializes in just one component of a warp drive engine) would outweigh any advantage in replication. Those worlds might even have very specialized replicators to produce certain types of more complex molecules more efficiently than anywhere else. And many of the later Trek plots concerned a physical shipment of one kind or another. Not much was seen of the civilian side in TOS, but I think it is probable that they would have some sort of bulk cargo system. All fiction, but fun to fill the civilian side out a little. 😀🖖 Reference: In the 23rd century, the United Federation of Planets had not yet perfected replicator technology for ships, though replicators already existed in industrial sites. Replicator technology was, however, in use by The Traveler's species, and the Beta 5 computer utilized replicator technology to manufacture several false identity cards for use by Gary Seven. (TOS: "Assignment: Earth") Starships of this time period were equipped with food synthesizers and other devices for producing clothing and machine parts on demand. This was a step forward, but did not achieve the quality and sophistication of the 24th century replicator. Replicator technology was not yet employed on starships as late as 2293. (TOS: "The Naked Time", "The Trouble with Tribbles"; VOY: "Flashback"; DIS: "Context Is for Kings", "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry", "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2") While not employed on starships, food replicators were in household use and able create dishes comparable in quality to home-cooked meals as early as the 2250s (DIS: "Whistle speak") memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Replicator

      Yes, it is definitely different from the Constitution Class… Some of us grew up with the Technical Manual and those designs are as much Trek as what was shown onscreen in TOS. The mid 70’s were dark times for Trek fans. TOS and TAS cancelled, no definitive plans for new Trek… The Technical Manual published in 1975 kept that world alive for many… 😃🖖

According to the Star Fleet Technical Manual each sphere could hold one Constitution Class, one Scout/Destroyer Class, and one Cargo Class, with one disconnected cargo pod. And it was a very tight fit. The drawing is quite clear. The sphere I showed in the video had a smaller interior, being designed to refit/repair one ship quickly. But if I had a completely hollow sphere, I could get three ships in there in a very tight fit just like was illustrated in the Manual… encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQMsbAvqKVpebKcnKJTZTsqEKN2x1kgGOnIIQ&s

Smugglers and Customs patrols for instance . AND this one hinting at interstellar tourism . Imagine being a paid lounge-singer on THIS interstellar Cruise ship ( or a migrating family opening a new world for Colonization . How about Military colonies at the fringes of the Federation charged with defending against incursion ? There you could have Ground - troop "Expeditionary forces" combined with Star-Fleet ! • @bobfischer
      @bobfischer Před 29 dny

      Much of the “warp lanes” comes from a 1980 publication “Introduction to Navigation”, which was a booklet accompanying a set of Star Trek star maps and illustrations. Basically an extrapolation from what little was shown in TOS of civilian life, including civilian travel. And it makes sense, having well protected travel routes with navigational and emergence aid… Anyway, all fun trying to fill out the TOS universe… 😀🖖
