Welcome back Hannah. Congratulations on your new addition to your family to you and your husband. I look forward to seeing more videos. I really like the way you produce and present your videos. I too have tried to set up shots with my phone, or my GoPro, and film while I photograph clients. It’s not so easy. It takes away from your concentration. a dedicated Videographer is definitely needed. I love the way your husband films, and edit your videos. I need someone like that myself on a full-time basis.

250th/sec is not high speed, most shutters can sync at that speed.

Why do I still get that black bar even in high speed sync? It's driving me nuts for like an hour I've been trying to figure out what the issue is. At 1/250 I get a black line even though I can see high speed sync is on my receiver and my ad200 has the high speed sync symbol activated but still I can't shoot above 1/200

Hannah, do you ever go to the WPPI events in las vegas?

I was expecting a clamshell reflector tutorial, but this was great. I'll prob. use two lights. Still, do you have more clamshell recommendations?

The best thing about your tutorials is that you present them in a down to earth manner with no frills. This prepares the photographer for the reality of doing the shot. The worst thing in this one specifically is that you don't talk about post production. It's another skill (and cost) for those starting out. But I appreciate you can't do everything in one video.

How do you keep your V-Flats from warping and straight like yours are?

1/125 shutter for 85 mm is a misleading and not very educative. 250 minimum. you just dont take that risk in a very controlled situation.

Hannah, first thanks for the video. Late to this party and as a new photographer just getting into portraiture, it has quickly become apparent that one recipe does not fit all. I realize that not everyone is going to do the same thing the same way. That said, Daniel Norton on Adorama TV suggests the lower modifier, if not on axis, should be larger than the key light. You like the equal in size. Peter Coulson has a monster light overhead, and a slightly longer strip box underneath - almost straight over head and straight up. Now, I do realize that many people cook not by strictly what is written in a cookbook, but season to taste. That said, there appears to be no unifying video on what to do what (and most of use don't have enough money to go buy every modifier under the sun so we can try on something Jerry Ghionis does, or Lindsay Adler does - and it's hard to see difference each of these would make without someone doing a side, by side, by side comparison of shots etc. Would you give it a consideration?

Hi Hannah! Thanks for the great video. Question, I typically shoot non-models and use a large umbrella or softbox. My issue is I get a bright forehead and speculator highlights in the bright spots. You don’t have this issue at all. Is it makeup or the light? What am I missing? Thanks! 😊

be sure to set shutter to Mechanical to prevent banding with the Sony. i never trust TTL - too unpredictable. Manual. sky issue easily resolved in PS with sky replacement.

For the fill, where are you aiming it? Have you ever tried with a larger fill? My fills tend to be larger than my keys in general so I'm trying to wrap my head around the opposite. Great tutorial and information...even better to see the good rapport you have with your client, looks as though you BOTH had fun doing the shoot. My thinking is if the model has an idea what is going on they will be alot more immersed in the process.

Thank you, I shot group pictures of a wedding a couple of months ago and made the mistake of putting the light to the side, I had to become best friends with the Gradient tool in post😂

Great tutorial. It really helped when you did the shot without the flash initially, and went from there.

Great information. I use my Godox flashes with HSS and am not excited with I get to 1/1000 or faster, the flash output is really low. I would assume the Profoto is much stronger. You get what you pay for I guess.
