Here's my entry for the Jared Dines Daddy Rock Solo Contest. Good luck to all of those who entered! Thanks to my friend Joshua Duroy who filmed the video, and a HUGE shout out to my dad who recorded, edited, and provided me with endless support throughout this process. Good luck to all, and may the best solo win! This was take 5
A little late to the party but in 2018 me and a friend played a snare tenor duet for solo and ensemble. After the piece we were berated by the judges for playing marching instruments. Maybe 30 seconds was feedback on our playing and the rest was getting trashed for the instruments we chose to play that day lol. But great performance from you, good video.
Nice job man🔥🔥How long would you say it took you to learn this?
I was working on this for a majority of my senior year
Is Doug Bush the judge?
Yes he was
Thats awesome. I love your style.. Heavy as hell!
Thank you man!! I was 15 or so when this was recorded so def not my best work lol but if you want to here some stuff I’ve done since then here’s a link to my music page! m.czcams.com/channels/1Xnxqtvf660EXdnEZFwJIw.html
@@iangillies711 great I will do!. I've got it on now.. says no comments allowed! Great song though!
How you get the audio for this? I got the sheet music, just need this audio
Bro I’m so sorry I honestly don’t remember. I remember downloading it and tossing it in GarageBand to get it to a slightly slower tempo but I don’t remember what the piece was called or where I downloaded it from. It was Shostakovich something in C Minor. Hope this helps!
Hey my man where did you get the audio for this? I can’t seem to find it at this tempo anywhere. Thanks!
What I did was I took the track, put it in GarageBand, and manually slowed it down to 108 bpm if I recall correctly
Update lil bro, how did you do?
Oh shoot I low key forgot this video was up 😅 Yeah I got cut in both 2019 and 2021, and I’m in college now focusing on commercial drumset. Still doin the music thing but I haven’t done marching band since I graduated high school
what rating did you get on this? it was sick!
I ended up getting a first division! Thank you!
That beginning was tense to listen to, but you got your groove. Teach is awesome too, very succinct and to the point. I like that
You inspired me to play this is year
Nice playing overall! I know it’s hard performing in front of one of the greats such as Doug so kuddos to you.
I feel like you were a little nervous at first but towards the middle you seemed really relaxed. Which is great. It sounds amazing!! Just remember keeping a good mind going into things can also affect how you play.
I was nervous at first lol. This piece really pushed my limits in chops, endurance, and rhythmic capability, which I guess is the point of the piece lol. But you’re right! Music is 90-95% a mental game
Dude that’s awesome
Nice bro!
This is quite swag
Did you make it?
Not in 2019, no, but I’m trying again for the 2020 season. I’m actually going to the weekend camp in Houston on the 20th, so I’ll get to see a bunch of friends I haven’t seen since January.
@@iangillies711 I actually really want to go to that camp but to be honest with you, I'm not that good lol. Also I just want to know what some of the audition process looks like. Do you mind giving me some insight?
Fluanito Lo-Fi yeah man. Basically you show up, check in, and then you drum a little bit the first day. If it’s the same as last year, all the snare auditionees will be in the same room together, and they’re listening for how you play with others and watching for technique. My high school marches matched so my traditional wasn’t that good, which is one of the main reasons I got cut last year. There’s an individual portion of the audition where you’ll take your drum outside and play for the caption head. Then on day 3 they’ll group people into cuts and callbacks, and then at the later camps they’ll start offering contracts. Hope this helped
@@iangillies711 thanks that helped alot! Im also sadly coming from a school that plays matched as well. My traditional is ok but only good enough to play bucks around 180. So I'm assuming you only played the warmups with the rest of the line? And how many people did show up for snare auditions?
Fluanito Lo-Fi we played mostly warmups and then the caption head provided a piece for a test of sight reading as well, and it was probably about the same level of difficulty as the warmups. At the camp I went to last year, there were about 30 snares there, but I have no way to predict how many will be there on the 20th
Hey would it be cool if you subscribed thanks for the help(I subbed to you)
That One Gamer yeah sure man
Yay for social awkwardness 😬😬😅😅
That was great!!!!
