I found this one profoundly moving! Like I lot of people, I was having a lot of trouble at the beginning of covid, and an absolute nightmare of a time at work -- all on top of the mental health issues that I've struggled with for most of my life, even at the best of times. One of my friends suggested that I start playing ukulele, and I have to tell you, it's the thing that has made the biggest difference in my life after therapy and medication! I have now come to understand my ukulele journey and my healing journey to be pretty much the same thing! 🙂To be able to intentionally bring in Hawaiian values and music to the therapeutic process is such a special gift! I am so grateful that you are sharing it with your patients and with all of us here! Thanks to Kanile'a and Na'au Pono for this unexpected pleasure!

First tune your ukulele with the tuner, often it will be set at A=440Hz. Then turn off the tuner and twiddle the tuner for the A string in small increments to make it sound like you feel. Then tune the other strings by ear to the A string. Play your favourite tunes and see if you feel better or happier etc.. If playing with others tune the A string by consensus or everyone tunes to the leader's A string. If you have a tuner app that shows frequency, measure the frequency you choose for the A string, note it every time and see how it moves over time. Also set your electronic tuner to A=432Hz, and then tune your uke and play your favourite tunes to see how it feels. Learn how you can control the underlying atmosphere and emotion of your uke playing experience by adjusting the tuning of the A string. If you get lost in the process, go back to the electronic tuner set for A=440Hz as a starting point. A=440hz is a technical setting best used for design and testing, when the ukulele has been tested to be working properly, the creative person adjusts the ukulele's A string to the atmosphere and circumstance.

Nothing else sounds like a Kanile'a. I enjoy both my K1C which is pre Tru R bracing and my long neck Concert with beautiful heartwood and low G tuning the K1CS has no added embellishments but they'd only be overshadowed by the beautiful heartwood Koa of this little gem. I waited and searched for SO ling to find one in the UK and finally found one at Uke republic. I've had it for three years and it just gets better as it matures as an instrument. I'm trying to save enough to purchase a Kanile'a Baritone but with rising prices in the UK on just about everything it's still out of reach currently. At 74 I've learnt to be patient and of course I keep my eyes open for a preloved example. In my opinion Kanile'a has no rivals. Keep doing what you do.❤

This video is very confusing. The can of 3-in-1 oil leads one to think that this is the oil he is using on the fretboard. However, if you slow down the video, he is actually getting the oil from the black container with the hand pump on top. Too bad he doesn’t mention what oil he is using, since that would be more helpful.

Three in One Oil. Not D'addario Lemon Oil as discussed in other videos. This short shows the initial oil, not a cleaning process, so perhaps there is a difference. Some customers are going to be confused when they need to oil and clean their fretboards, Fretboard oiling generates pages and pages of different opinions almost in minutes. Perhaps some explanation would help Kanilea owners?

    • @draic890

For non-professionals, the best way to evaluate a uke’s intonation is by sounding a harmonic on the 12th fret and comparing that note to the pitch of the note fretted at the 12th fret. This simple test can be done quickly in the music store before you buy. Harmonics on the 7th and 5th frets also can be used to check intonation.) By the way, string height also affects intonation.

Any chance that we can get a Kanile’a business update? I’ve been very confused this year. We see these stunning $10k plus models that we all love but few can afford. Then there are the amazing new models that were introduced earlier this year but they mostly seem to be build on order. USA ukulele retailers seem to have only old models. I love my Kanile’a ukuleles and love the company. Just trying to understand how I should think about future Kanile’a purchases. Thanks
