30.000 Bath is enaugh in Chiang Mai if you don't drink any alcohol. You can rent a deasent room for 5-6000 Bath + electicity for Aircon at night is 2000 THB max, and 2000 THB for montorbike costs. That means about 20.000 THB to live on to food and other expenses, it will be doable. Food is cheap at maya mall, and other places they have cheap eatouts. You will even have some moen for some drives on the motorbike and entry to hotsprings and a couple of other things. So i Chiang Mai it is possible, but impossible in Phuket, so it depends. I would say you need minimum 40.000 THB in the south maybe 50.000 in Phuket, and Chiang Rai, and rural areas you migt squeek by on 20.000 THB, but 30.000 it is possible.

I plan to go to Kuala Lumpur and I see I can schedule an appointment at the Thai embassy on their website. BUT... I see there's no availability beyond 5 days in the future. Any idea why?

I'm currently in Thailand and in the process of getting a visa. I understand I need to leave and go to an embassy or consulate to apply. How does this process work? I plan to go to Kuala Lumpur and I see I can schedule an appointment at the Thai embassy there. Once scheduled, I go there to give them all my paperwork, I assume. And then what? I assume they take some time processing. How long? What's next? Any info will help - thanks in advance!

Just keep in mind that if you are not a native speaker, you won't even manage to get a few interviews in Thailand. Even if you somehow manage to find a job as a non native speaker, you will be paid way less than your native speaker colleagues. That's the case even when you have a Cambridge CELTA in your CV (forget the 'XYZ' TEFL certifications). If you are a native speaker you will manage to find jobs so easily that you would only need any TEFL certification just for the namesake. Little or no experience would do for them. Schools usually prefer caucasian NES teachers (just a part of their marketing strategy) over non natives. How efficient you are as a teacher only comes second.
