How To Undo, Release, & Unlock a Ratchet Strap - Professional Load Securement & Strapping Tips
How To Undo, Release, and Unlock a Ratchet Strap. How to Use a Ratchet Strap. Professional Load Securement and Strapping Tips.
In this video Sean teaches you how to undo a ratchet strap used to secure furniture in a fully loaded moving truck, U-Haul, or box truck. Sean gives you detailed instructions explaining how to undo, release, and unlock a ratchet strap so you can unload the items that you have just secured. Properly securing your loaded belongings is extremely important to keep your load from shifting as you drive. A properly secured load will keep your belongings from becoming damaged and prevent accidents from the loss of a load. Finally, properly securing your load will keep other drivers on the road around you safe. It is not just a good idea to secure your loaded truck, it is mandated by law.
There are many laws that govern the securement of loaded vehicles. Please refer to your local, state, and federal laws before transporting anything. For example, this excerpt from Title 75 of Pennsylvania's vehicle code: § 4903. Securing loads in vehicles: (a) General rule. - No vehicle shall be driven or moved on any highway unless the vehicle is so constructed or loaded as to prevent any of its load from dropping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping. (b) Fastening load. - Every load on a vehicle shall be fastened so as to prevent the load or covering from becoming loose, detached or in any manner a hazard to other users of the highway.... etc. The full text can be found in Title 75 of Pennsylvania's vehicle code under 4903, Securing loads in vehicles.

How To Replace Hand Truck Wheels - A Detailed Explanation on How to Fix a Broken Two-Wheel Dolly
What are those straps used for lifting the sofa called and how long are they?
I used to work for a moving company, I would have put a bag of clothes in the wasted space to make it even, because a lot of people uses trash bags to put dirty clothes or even clean blankets in, these kinds of bags can fill that void, which is also good to put at the very top.
We discourage anyone to pack anything in garbage bags. Garbage bags are never a good way to pack household goods for moving. Regardless of what is placed into the garbage bag, it is never a good idea. Anything being moved should be placed into a box or plastic container. Using boxes and plastic containers prevents damage to anything packed inside during a move. Garbage bags are notorious for ripping and spilling the contents on the ground. This causes those items to become dirty or damaged. The morale of the story is, don't cut corners. You will regret it in the end.
Wow, amazing! You're a beast!
Thank you! 🤙
good looking dude. How yo doin'?
Thank you! 💪🙂
Perfect. I’ve watched a few of your piano moving videos and they’re all great. All very helpful and informative. But having an entire inventory of tools/equipment necessary for moving heavy/cumbersome items is exactly what I needed! Now what if I had to move a 400lb marble dining table? Solid marble base and top. I’m thinking probably pretty similar to moving a piano, as far as getting something stupidly heavy down steps, across grass, up ramps etc. Would you agree that we should approach it like moving a piano?
A marble table that doesn't come apart is very rare. First double check to make sure that the top did not detach from the legs. If the customer told you it doesn't come apart, take that with a grain of salt. Chances are they have never physically move it. If it comes apart, I would crate the top and the legs separately. From that point you can use dollies, moving, and rigging equipment to assist with the move. If it's all one piece as you say, I would have to see it to figure out how it should be moved. It's too hard to make a determination about a solid marble table without seeing it first. They are extremely delicate and can break easily.
Great video
Thank you!
I will probably NEVER do this. Wishful thinking i guess.. 😂
Thank you I just changed the oil on my 78 Impala

How to strap and secure a loaded truck: czcams.com/video/pWGvtz56OQw/video.html
It's nowhere near that easy; it's a pain in the ass. The vinyl cover is stretched so tight, and the cinch cord crimped off, you can't loosen it to get at the screws under it even AFTER removing the additional side plates. We'll sell the trucks before I go through this again.

How to: Load Securement & Strapping Tips: czcams.com/video/pWGvtz56OQw/video.html
I would love one on boxes vs those black containers with the yellow lids you can get at Costco. Are those worth it or will they be crushed in a move? :) Thanks
I'll do my best to make a video like that. To answer your question quickly, plastic containers need to be loaded correctly as well. They can easily be overloaded. Keep them within the recommend weight limit. Next, they must be stacked and loaded correctly in the truck or trailer. Just like most boxes, plastic containers are typically used as "medium" items with the load. I hope this helps until I can make a video. P.s. boxes are much easier to load than plastic containers and can be broken down to save space after the move. Plastic containers can't be flattened to save space and they are more expensive than boxes.
This is 100% why you hire the professionals for things like this! Dude brought equipment to prevent the piano from scuffing and being bashed around, he brought enough people to do the job right, and he made sure he brought people who know how to do the job!
I couldn't have said that any better myself. All of our piano movers are highly trained and experienced. All of our piano moving trucks are specially equipped for piano moving. Here in Western, PA we run into stairs like this a lot. You should check out our other videos if you're interested in seeing more of what we do.
Very nice piece of equipment 🤙🏿
Thank you very much! I saw your other comments. Are you in the moving industry?
@@StumpfMovingandStorage basically I'm in junk removal but we do some moving when it gets slow. How's the economy treating you guys over there?
We're staying busy. How about yourself?
@@StumpfMovingandStorage It's been a weird year even my friends in moving are slower than they should be. Everyone is in a slump we're feeling the economic squeeze. We'll probably have a rush after the election regardless of who wins.
We've been in the moving industry for almost 90 years. Through that time we've seen many ups and downs. We are in a time reminiscent of the recession of 07 and 08. I'm not sure how long you're friends have been in the industry, but the over abundance of work seen in the last few years is not what this industry is really like. Unfortunately, people who got into the industry at that time did not realize how abnormally good the industry was doing. When inflation and interest rates went up, the industry went back to normal or below depending upon the part of the country. I hope you and your friends are able to weather this. Things will get better eventually. Being prepared for this to happen again is key to longevity in this industry.
Thats really cool
Thanks! We like to think outside of the box and maintain the equipment we already own.

Hey DJ! Thanks for watching. Do you work in the moving industry? Dallas, TX is a lot flatter than Western, PA. The stairs we run into here definitely make piano moving a challenge.

Amazing video! Very helpful 😊
Thank you!
this is like the only video i found for this topic, im glad it was a good one! One question: Would this reasonably weather proof the furniture, in the case that we may have to keep the furniture outside of the house for a while? Seems like doing this + a giant silica pack + a tarp w/ the feet raised on bricks could work, but I don’t want to act a fool doing so.
This is one of several videos we made about protecting sofas. The second is linked here: czcams.com/video/p_Dqj6Fzvbk/video.html I would never recommend storing furniture outside in the elements. The method we showed here will protect the sofa from water, dirt, and snags during the moving process and while being stored in a facility.

Does anyone know how to " lock the Hammers " for transit on a baby grand ?
The hammers are "locked" when they are shipped brand new from the factory. The factory uses string to tie them and prevent them from moving. This is not a standard practice when moving a grand or upright piano.

Thank you!
Hi! We are moving a 65" tv soon and I have two questions. I'm seeing dedicated TV moving boxes that are expandable with foam corners offered for screens up to 86". Would you still recommend crating instead? Do you have any recommendations for safe TV placement in the moving truck? Thank you SO much for all of these thorough videos. They are an incredibly help as we prepare for a DITY move.
We don't use the boxes that you described for large televisions. Typically we will crate larger televisions. 65 inch televisions fall within the gray area. There's nothing wrong with those types of television boxes, and for some people they could be much easier to use. We like to create larger televisions because it provides a safe housing that can be loaded on top of in the moving truck. If you find a box like you described that will fit your television, I don't think you can go wrong. As we always say boxing is half of the protection. The other half of protecting your belongings is properly loading. Having the television loaded properly inside of the moving van will insure it's safety during the move. We load televisions as if we are loading picture boxes. They are placed on top of base in the tier. We consider TV boxes to be "middle stuff". We will use other television boxes or picture boxes to fill out the tier and make it flush. Then we will load lighter items also known as "chowder" or "stick" on top. We have a video that describes the process of loading and moving van. I will link it at the bottom for you: czcams.com/video/I7LW4tsIHTQ/video.htmlsi=wpU8HnuYMPcmv0eS
@@StumpfMovingandStorage, fantastic! Thank you so much!
Great video. I'm going to show this to our new recruits here in Bristol UK!
Thank you very much! That's really nice to hear.
Great video. Very informative. I'm having the carpet replaced in my music room the end of the summer and I'm already having anxiety having the piano moved. I will of course use professional piano movers... but now I know what to look for!
That should be a very easy move. If you're located in Western Pennsylvania feel free to give us a call. We would be happy to move your piano.
What type of ramp did you use for that?
We use two types of ramps. The first is an aluminum ramp made by Magliner. The second is a fiberglass walk board made by Melcher Manufacturing. The ramp in this video is a 12ft long fiberglass walk board. We ramps with many different lengths, ranging between 8ft and 16ft long. I hope this helps!
No Way, nope, not worth making a slight mistake nor injuring yourself, totally not worth it!👎🏻
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say here. We are professional piano movers who have specialized in moving pianos since 1936. I hope this was very clear in the presentation and the demonstration of how to dismantle and move a grand piano. This video is not meant to be a tutorial, but an education for our perspective clients. If this video showed you how difficult it can be, then we did our job. The casual viewer of this video should never attempt to move a piano by themselves. Unless you have the training, education, and experience, you should never move a piano. Always hire a professional!
Thanks, you made that look.so easy!
No problem at all! After a few tries, you'll make it look this easy.
Love the video. You just have to stop using those darn swivel dollies lol, too dangerous. And if you used a stationary wheel dolly which is much safer, you can also tip the piano down on its legs leaving it on the dolly which will put a lot less stress on the lyer and the end leg.
Thanks for watching the video. We've had this dolly conversation before. Fixed dollies are hard to work with and difficult to maneuver. That becomes even more pronounced when working in tight areas. Swivel dollies are not dangerous at all, and they make the piano move easier on the movers. It doesn't matter what kind of equipment is used, Movers must be trained to use their equipment properly and safely. You can even tip the piano onto swivel dollies as you suggested with the fixed dolly. Regardless of the dolly used, we find that technique to be extremely dangerous and only to be used when absolutely necessary. We've been moving pianos since 1936 and have cultivated our moving techniques over many years of experience. Everything from the equipment we use to the techniques we employ are tried and true methods of piano moving that have stood the test of time.
Dish pack usually on first floors. Just use ramps for stairs and 2 wheeler with a high pistol grip dolly and take 3 dish packs in per trip.
That might work out west or in coastal regions but, in the north east most homes are not built on level ground. Quite often we will have a flight of stairs to get to the home. You would need to bring several sets of 16ft walk boards if we did what you are suggesting. We almost never use 2 wheelers because they end up slowing us down.
@@StumpfMovingandStorage I stand corrected, you are right.
How often do I have to train in the gym before I can perform like you?
Don't worry about the gym, work at a moving company for a few years and you'll get the muscle needed! 💪😂
Greatest channel ever. Most useful youtube ive watched
Thank you Matthew! That really means a lot to us. Is there any topic that you would like to see a video cover?
@@StumpfMovingandStorage you may already have it, but how do you secure loads in a moving truck that don't fill the entire space? Also, is there an ideal number of people/different, specific roles you see on moving teams?
I haven't covered those topics yet. I'll get working on those videos soon for you! 🤙
Great advise. Thank you.
No problem! Glad we could help!
Love this video & what a beautiful job!!! 💕🎼💕
Thank you very much! 🙏
I was concerned I wouldn't be able to take my piano with me, but my faith has been restored!!!! Awesome job
I'm glad we could put your mind at ease!
Nice work as always!
