Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue - Fenders worst kept secret???

It's supposedly the most recorded amplifier in history (that's debatable), but what isn't is that the 65 Deluxe is one hell of an amplifier.
Hotone Ampero Stomp 2. A budget HX Stomp?

I have a Katana head and I wonder if this will work with it. It is a solid state amp but it can go up to 150watts and I live in an apartment as well so I have never even tried playing it that loud.
Man, here in Brazil we find this guitar with Fender Humbucking pickups. I mean some guitars don't come with Seymour Duncan. Have you ever seen a Fender FMT with different pickups where you are?
Can i use in in a combo tube amp ?
Fender should have kept ALL though non-handwired reissue amps a BIG secret!
This guitar is right up there with my Gibson for sure no doubt 💯 I love them both so much! I find myself picking my Fender up probably more often then my Les Paul which is crazy
What I don’t get is what’s the difference between using an attenuator or just cranking up the amp and using the volume control on the guitar?
It's all about where the signal is attenuated from (the guitar, amp head, or speaker cab). Lowering it at the guitar lowers the amount of signal getting to the amp - which will make the amp respond differently. Lowering the signal from the head to the speaker is the best way to keep the amp response as similar to a truly "cranked" amp as possible.
Great combo amp- fantastic tone. I own 2. BTW: Can you stop saying:”I’ll let you decide….”? B/C it’s my decision regardless.
Hello I've finally down graded to a dsl 1 head and mx 1x12, have the bugera on its way, can I get Slayer sounds at almost zero levels?
With this and other attenuators you could get slayer sounds into your headphones, or at almost no volume at all. It's awesome.
Squire makes a better version and it's beautiful for 185 dollars
Nice review mate, thanks for taking the time for your honest opinion on a great amp.
Great amp off the shelf; having mine upgraded to hand-wired by my favorite local amp tech, who also upgraded my `65 Twin Reverb reissue to hand-wired, and upgraded my Vox AC30 handwired H2.
Don't get hung up on marketing names.
The Double Inputs date from the 1950s…when a musician might plug a microphone into one jack in smaller venues. Another option, a 2nd guitarist or bass player would also plug into the same amp. The 6G Bassman of Fender has a separate Guitar and Bass input with different tone stack values for each. Amplifiers became popular and used indoors by country/western musicians (Steel Guitar a necessity) guitar players for larger indoor venues as 1) larger audience equals more money and in such establishments, people would dance. It’s not to say that amps prior to this were unknown, a necessity for Big Bands, but with volume more exposure at venues that were televised…in or outdoors. With the volume, the guitar starts to displace the Saxophone as the solo instrument. Leo Fenders Advertising pictures show the progression from Country, Western, to Dick Dale Surf, Instrumentalist, and then caught flat footed with the British Invasion. From guys in Cowboy Hats, To a Scuba Diver carrying his amp to the waves, to non vocal groups. It’s said the Deluxe was the most recorded amp, but Standel Amps Fenders neighbor to the in El Monte, CA has some off the most famous recordings (plus Leo borrowed a number of ideas from Standel, from knobs on the front of the amp, amp cab piggyback on the separate speaker cab, use of JBL speakers).
They are coil splits not taps...and it is Amber not yellow.
Wow. We know how it looks. You spent the vast majority of time talking BS. Ho does it sound!?
Thank. That was really informative and useful. 😊
Why does your audio sound weird? I thought you were a gear guy? Strange. Annoying enough I'm done with the video.
Just introduced myself to one dressed in red 💃 cool vid’
I have a 2006 Crimson red Korean FMT HH that I have owned for about 12 years now. I play this guitar every morning and actually I like it better than my Les Paul. It does the same job and it's lighter.
I just bought one of the OG versions of this guitar. It was made in Korea. I think it has a rosewood fretboard. It’s loaded with Seymour Duncan phat cat p90’s. Digging it so far!
I have one these, one of the older ones ( maybe 2001 or so), with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. I've had it a long time and try to keep American made NOS tubes in it. I think it's probably the best sounding I've ever owned and I've owned many amps over the years, most of them Fenders. I recently bought a JOYO American Sound pedal on eBay which is supposed to emulate Fender Deluxe amps, and does a pretty good job (I paid $38 for an open box unit), but the interesting thing about this pedal is that it has a 3 band eq! I think it's a fantastic pedal that really brings out the best of a 65 Deluxe RI.
I bought a used one but I don’t know if it is a 64 or 65 RI. How do I find out which one it is?
Used mine one gig so far, on a Marshall DSL 20C in a small club for NYE. It worked well, no heat issues ( it is passive), though each increase in attenuation required some adjustment in the 3 band EQ. With a simple untethering of the amp's speaker cable I was able to connect directly to the Bugera setting on top of the combo cab. A dab of white sight pain on the face of the rheostat knob makes it a lot easier to see.
Is the DSL not a master volume amp?
@@SammyInnit Valid question. There are individual channel gain & volume pots, so no not a true "master" volume. For my purposes the "ultra" gain channel is useless, so this necessitates my utilizing the volume & gain settings of the "normal" to achieve my base tone, which unfortunately is "too loud" for some of the smaller venues we are booked into. Not an issue in larger or outdoors.
@GeorgeHeil-gg6wv I see. I'm currently looking for an attenuator. I have a 1984 JCM800 which is a master volume but you can tell, it just isn't as responsive turned down. I've just purchased a 1987X that has no master at all. I'd have thought it's all straight forward but it doesn't seem to be.
@@SammyInnit The Bugera worked well on a 20watt amp . . . gigged it quite a lot after acquiring it. Some EQ changes were required, but I usually have to veue match and fine tune anyway. Currently field testing a Fender Tonemaster "blonde". Best musical wishes.
Just bought one of these. Can’t wait to give it a good blast
That edition of the Super Reverb should have a 40 watt Jensen speaker vs. the 100 watt which gives much higher volume clean head room. I have this amp and LOVE IT.
I bought the combo in 2015. Liked it so much I bought the head too, and two Fender 1X12 cabs. I put the Eminence Swamp Thang in the combo. It brought this amp to life!! It Rocks!!
I am thinking about putting an Eminence Swamp thing in my DR also! How did the Swamp Thang change the sound vs. the factory Jensen?
Great review!
At GC I preferred the regulat 12" Reverb. This one IMHO did not sound great. I snagged a 5 Watt hand wired tube amp- Gries Amplification for $400. Sounds amazing- every bit as good if not better then this and dead quiet. At home I can't get past 1/4 volume- not even close to it- maybe 1/6th to 1/8th...and with my Y cable, I power two speaker cabs. That gets met to 70dB's. We are all 10 feet away from each other like a triangle pattern. It's in my living room and I use my HomeTheatre for backing tracks- nice sound. I can add a 3rd amp for Stereo. Y is not stereo. FYI, a $20 dongle gets your phone into your HT via Bluetooth- well worth it!
Why does TREM go out on these often? They get noisey too.
Capacitors
@@BryanClark-gk6ie True but in addition, there are other considerations. The design puts components too near each other- not enough shielding. Changing the pots and tubes also helps. When they work, they do sound great. I ended up buying a hand wired 5 watt tube amp. It's very quiet. I bought some pedals to get the effect I need.
Talk less.
I have one and I love it for home recording and practicing. I tried to gig with it once using a 40 watt tube amp. It overheated and at first I thought my amp was blown but once I bypassed the ps1, my amp was fine and the next day the ps1 was working fine.
amps require a load at the speaker output, or they will get damaged or destroyed...if i want to use my bass amp as a recording pre-amp, and use the line out of my bass amp (swr 350) to record, but dont want any speaker at all, what would i plug into the speaker output to simulate a speaker or load? could i simply make a shorted 1/4 plug or will that do damage also?
Your first chords. Not in tune.
Please focus the camera on the guitar next time I really was hoping and wanted to look at the guitar while you were describing it and I never did get a good look at it😮😊. Other than that it was good
It’s more PRS than Les Paul
My question is I have to 2 Marshall cabinets how do I connect to both of them.
Thankz for tbe re uew. My inly feedback was that the guitar waa barely visible through a good portion of video.
It always makes me laugh when people talk about how scratchy the level control is on a power soak. It's a huge rheostat with a wiper that actually wipes across the windings of a ceramic resistor.
Wine Red with Wheat face
For $100 it does the job. This was the first attenuator I ever bought and I still have it as I think it's kind of cool to look at and makes a nice paperweight. Once you have a reactive load attenuator you'll forget all about resistive load attenuators hooked up to your amp. Save up and buy a reactive loadbox. It is worth it.
Don’t be fooled by the price. The specs on this fender are going after Gibson. It’s in a whole other league than the epiphones. It was made in Indonesia. If fender built it in USA with same specs in would be around $2500
Love mine. I highly recommend clipping the bright cap and upgrading the speaker. Also to re-bias it as they are biased cold from the factory.
To Weber DT-12?
@@dap777754 I went with a WGS ET65. Another great option in my opinion would be a vintage 30 or WGS Veteran 30. I’ve heard good things about Weber speakers though.
Why buy a 65 and clip it when you could buy a 68?
@@didamnesia3575 I’ve owned both and for some reason I think my 65 sounds better than the 68 I owned. I traded a 5150 iii combo to a guy for an almost brand new 65 reissue.
Had one, had sound cutting out issues, ended up selling it. But the sound was awesome, even with Acoustic 12-strings. Play your acoustics through it!
Hi. Did I understand correctly? I can use just the head connect it to the PS1 and then to the interface without using a cabinet and it will not fry a head, right? Greetings from the Polish Coast 🇵🇱🤘
Very bad playing :/
You said this would work with an amp that was greater than 5 watts. What about just a 5 watt Fender Vibro Champ Reverb amp?
Just get an Lpad and save a packet
It’s got a lot of different sounds. I got one and really enjoy it. My favorite guitar is still my ltd SE-1000 deluxe, though. Way better metal guitar. This one can play some good thrash sounds and classic rock, though. And it’s easy to play, light weight, and just sexy really
Thanks for the information brother, I just bought one of these amps, it should be delivered in the next few days, I'm glad to hear that you recommend this amp. I can't wait to plug it in and raddle the windows. Keep the videos coming. Good job
Very nice!
I have a friend that has a twin reverb, but he can’t figure out how to hook this up. No detailed videos on CZcams…
If the twin is similar to the Deluxe it should just be a matter of pulling the cable out from the speaker (from the amp) and routing it to the power soak and then adding another cable from the soak back into the speaker.
It's kinda self explanatory, then again, some people can't even change a tire or oil.
I'm going to buy one. Thanks for the review 👍 10:29
