I've been riding a mountain bike for over 6 years and it's shit compared to driving I have my lisence now I'm not dumb enough to ride on the road it's for the car I'm always going to drive when it's more then half a km unless my kids want to ride even then I'll drive them to where we can ride safe and not be unsafe and ride on the road then get shity at cars for not moving in nsw Australia now if the pishbike rider isn't or can't do the speed limit then get off the road

wait but didn't you say in the last video that you were using a 10 speed crankset for this build so maybe if you had used a 12 speed one it would shift with one click and you didn't need to trim.

Thirty years ago when rims were soft they couldn't usually have even spoke tension all the way around. Once the wheel was straight and round, it was what it was. Modern rims seem very quick and easy to build, but they probably need extra work to even up the spokes. Old, soft rims were out of true with the slightest adjustment.

If you use threaded headset common problem is setting the stem too high above insertion line, that damages the threads

Also, not all brake discs are compatible with sintered brake pads! 👏 Make sure your discs are compatible before you replace your pads on your bike or else you’ll have a bad time, they will fuck up your discs and you will have little metal shavings all up in your hub and shit. There are three different types of brake pads. Organic (softest), resin and sintered (hardest). Resin pads are perfectly fine for most people and most uses.

I’d love to see a video on hub adjustment and preload taking into account that the quick release adds another load on the bearings

i need to get some cone spanners i have cheap hubs tho so if i slightly over tighten its not too bad , been wanting to build my own wheelset and the only affordable reputable hubs are shimano cup and cone hubs a part 2 in my case isnt needed but i would like to see it as not many people know how to set up thier bearings

I'm so disgusted to learn the hard way, that a flimsy kickstand can lead to a tipped over bike... which can lead to a bent derailleur... which can lead to the derailleur bumping bike spokes... which can lead to broken spokes... which can lead to a messed up wheel needing overhauling... and need for a new derailleur (eventually, after enough years of bending the hangar back, & more & more falls... until you are finally fixing the whole bike)... & concern about the chain being twisted out of shape... , & PRAYING all the way home.... & some serious swipes into the aluminum frame, getting thin spots... I'm Kick stand shopping right now at the SAME time I fix all these other parts... or maybe to mod the one i have with addition of a rubber tip used on crutches. Definitely LOVE kickstands. They are your friend. Blessings. Peace.

Nice. I've never understood the mini-pumps. I have the full sized frame pumps from Zefal and they work just fine and pump a tire up fairly quickly. Way less work than a mini-pump. Either way, I have a nice floor pump at home and carry everything that you mention in the video. Better safe than sorry.

Excellent. A little pace-line story. I was riding in TOSRV and we had a nice pace-ling going. We were cruising at a real fast pace, when we hear 'On your left'. Going past us was a line of tandems. It was almost like we were standing still. I vowed to eventually get a tandem and later found one at my local shop that a gentleman was selling after his boy got into other things that kids do. It is a fun bike to ride.

i need to learn to build wheels , finding decent affordable wheels are becoming impossible ik it will technically cost more than buying pre assembled wheelsets but as someone that earns very little , buyig a wheel in parts is a easyer pill to swallow

I appreciate your intent but the 20,000 foot view is steel for frames and aluminum for rims with rim brakes is a far and away more reliable system. I ride a 40 year old frame with 20 year old parts.....can't do that with anything carbon! Don't need a check-up just regular service and very little of that with sealed bearings. Just tires and brake pads with an occasional cleaning.

A tension spoked cycle wheel is an example of a tensegrity, a mixture of rigid elements and tension elements creating a structure where the rigid elements don't touch each other. I build wheels on a stand with 2 dial tolerance indicators, DTI's, one vertical and one lateral. My target trueness is plus or minus 0.05 mm vertical, lateral and dish. Tension is the last parameter and it usually gives an indication of the accuracy of the join in the rim. Set and chase 0's on the DTI's and tension guage value. I also write inside the rim in spirit marker the build date, The spokes lengths used, The customer, A number from 1 to 10, usually 7 or 8, representing how good I think the build finished. The join being the limiting factor on most new rims.

There are some apps available that will help tension spokes by the tone/frequently when plucked. You set the spoke guage, shape and distance from last cross to hub and then it will approximate tension based on frequency of pluck. Not a replacement for a tensiometer but probably "better than nothing" to help achieve even tension and closer to accurate that guessing. I've evened out several wheels with it and subscribe to the belief that evenly tensioned but maybe all a bit low is better that uneven.

First thing we threw away in the 80’s was the kick stand and reflectors. Bmx bikes were quite stable upside down on the bars and seat. As an adult that sometimes used one for commuting, it made sense to have one. A few of my bikes recently have retained their kickstands since they haven’t flopped about on rough terrain. I think the general public appreciates not having my fat tire bike sprawled across the sidewalk.
