    Monfils plays his best when the opponent is playing very well. He likes those points where he gets back some impossible balls and then goes for a winner. But since he is not proactive with his attack, he lets the opponent control the point and reacts to it, and gets himself in way more trouble than necessary.

    Commentators: maybe he should save some energy for the thrid set...
    Monfils: Quel troisième set? XD

    Monfils hasn't had much success against Nadal... but when he has, he's gotten him in Doha. Twice. Here and also back in 2009. The pattern in both was that the game plan was rock solid, playing with pace and taking Nadal out of position with side to side offense and coming to the net to close it out. You wonder why he doesn't do that more often against Nadal... perhaps he'd have more than just the two victories against him.

    • @SJ-di5zu
      @SJ-di5zu Před 3 lety +25

      Well quite simply, Monfils never plays like this. I think Simon has said it has to do with how the French raise their tennis players, but Monfils isn’t an attacking player at all. He plays with very little pace. I know there’s a bunch of highlights online of Monfils crushing a forehand, but those are just exceptions where he goes for highlights. This match was simply Monfils redlining his game. Obviously if you smack balls onto the lines you’ll beat anyone. It’s like when de Minaur almost beat Rafa earlier this year by smacking every ball much harder than he normally does. It’s not a sustainable game plan, but maybe it’ll get you a win sometimes. I wish Monfils played more risky tennis, but it’s just not how he was raised to play I guess.

    this victory is not recent, because the last time that GAEL MONFILS (who moreover plays well) does not date from 2020. because this sportsman has not won on the top 10 this since 2019 and that RAFAEL NADAL in 2020 was not below the top 3. so this Doha victory dates back to 2014 or worse 2009. So don't pass off this victory for recent. thank you for specifying the year of this victory for GAEL MONFILS over RAFAEL NADAL.

I do not believe that Gaël likes to be compared to God as he is himself a true believer and knows that it is one of the most insulting thing to say and heavily punished shortly after committing this sin called Shirk(Blasphemy) by Allah(swt) Himself as He is hearing every single words utter by any of the 6 Billions+ humans on this Planet Earth , Planet that is so unjustly treated and belongs to His rightful owner : Allah(swt)
