  • Since its release in 2011, the SPD-SX can be found in setups ranging from mini kits in the homes of social media streamers to the stages of sold-out stadiums. And the pad fits seamlessly into hybrid and electronic kits alike.
The SPD-SX has nine velocity-sensitive rubber pads with red LED indicators, and any sampled sound can be assigned to any pad. It sparked the sampling pad revolution with a wide range of tracks, clicks, loops, and one-shot sounds stored inside.
The pad also comes loaded with 16 preset kits and 210 samples, including an array of loops, one-shot sounds, and melodic phrases-with 16GB of memory to load your own sounds. The SPD-SX supports WAV audio files in 44.1kHz, 16-bit format for crystal-clear sound.
With a range of output options, you can seamlessly send your sound to different locations for mixing and monitoring. Plus, load, organize, and record sounds with a USB connection and SPD-SX Wave Manager software.
In this video, Roland artist and experienced sample pad professional Adam Marcello explores the SPD-SX features that elevate live performances.

Great video. What other equipment are you using? A kick pedal, other device? It is confusing for newbies when you don't even mention what we see in the video,

Greetings... Is it possible to mute the sound of one pad with another pad on the roland spd sx and have the song play when unmuted, in principle, to replace the volume button by hitting the pad. Thank you.

Then I put the flash disk in the Pad version 1.05 and it tells me there is no memory. What is the problem? For example, is it broken?

Why do the knobs and buttons still work like an Atari? Shouldn't this have moved to a touchscreen computer style layout 15 years ago?

Hello mate, I'm just starting to use the SPD-SX and I hit a lot of technical issues but have been able to resolve them all so far - keep at it. Try asking Roland for technical support through their website or in one of their store. Ask friends. Try contacting specific musicians who are using the SPD-SX.
I think you might have been having a similar problem to me - how to match the tempo of the SPD-SX's in-built click track with loops that you're triggering. For the moment, I'm ensuring the loops are at the desired tempo, setting the SPD-SX's in-built click to the same tempo, then ensuring I trigger the loop exactly in time. It's not ideal, because if I'm even slightly off the beat the loop will go out of sync with the click. The 'tempo sync' function under the 'pad' menu doesn't help with this (although I may be misunderstanding the purpose of that function).
The SPD-SX is an immensely powerful piece of kit and its possibilities seem almost endless. It can be complicated, though, and while it's beautifully designed and Roland have done their considerable best to make its use intuitive, it remains highly complicated to get it to do certain specific things you may want it to do. But I'm fairly certain there isn't a better product on the market for what it can do.
