      @@ModernPlague On the second and third scenario from the core box I really don't mind replaying the same story and I think that's from the fact that the game is largely tactics and deckbuilding/upgrading. Sure, you may know "as soon as I open this door, I'll take damage" but you don't know what challenges the deck is going to throw at you. I'm not HUGE into roleplaying the game, although I do love the story, so I think that helps that I could sit and play more abstractly than alot of people could.
      Having said all that, I don't have Dunwich yet (it's on the way) so I'm not sure if it'll be more about the surprises in the locations and story or just good tactical and adapting gameplay.

      There's a pretty good scenario you can download and play on BGG and it'll allow you to play the game a few times and try out some things without worrying about spoiling the story. That's how I started and I don't regret it.
      If you wanted to enjoy the story with someone later I think theoretically you could just watch the symbols and ignore the story text on the agenda and act cards. I can hear people cringing at me saying that because that's a HUGE draw to this game but if you wanted to just fight some bad guys I don't see why not. I actually played it through by myself first then went through it with my wife. While she may have enjoyed playing it together, I still really enjoyed the 2nd time playing through with someone and didn't feel "spoiled."

  • @Quizoid
    @Quizoid Před 7 lety +134

    Weirdly, I think this tutorial has a couple errors.
    It says that to advance the agenda deck, each player must discard the requisite number of clues. The rules clearly say that the investigators, as a group, need to discard that number of clues (implying that investigators can split this 3/1 or 4/0, as opposed to each needing to discard exactly 2).
    Also, in the mythos phase, players draw from the encounter deck "in player order" which the rules state start with the lead investigator. The tutorial said that was Wendy, but Roland went first.
    It's funny how FFG makes some of these games so complicated, even they can't get it right. :D

    • @kirbymaster5
      @kirbymaster5 Před 7 lety +47

      They also incorrectly implied that the enemy spawns engaged with Roland because he meets its prey criteria, when really it engages him because he drew it.

    • @Quizoid
      @Quizoid Před 7 lety +22

      Oh yeah. Good catch. The whole enemy thing is weird. If you draw an enemy, it comes into play engaged with you.
      However, if it has the Spawn keyword, then it comes into play unengaged in that location, and then engages with whoever it engages with (possibly following Prey instructions if any). If the investigator who drew the card and another investigator is at that location, and the enemy doesn't have Prey, you can choose who it engages with.
      I think I have that right, anyway.
      That's a little odd. :)

      The rules reference, under "Act" says:
      "Any or all investigators may contribute any number of clues towards the total number of clues required to advance the act."

Like the rule about attack of opportunity, that’s just another thing to remember. Why not simplify combat so it’s just activated when players attack or enemies attack. Actually rules are pretty clear except people tend to misread them :)
      Attacks of oppurtunity only happen when player tries to investigate or play assets/events etc... that don't have fast, fight, evade word on them. Attacks of oppurtunity are never triggered if you perform fight or evade unless the enemy has retaliate keyword however retaliate only occurs if you fail fight skill test if you win or fail evade test it doesn't apply.
      Skids or Agnes are great to play if you want to learn the rules quickly because they are more specialized characters.
      Skids mains evade and fast mechanics while Agnes mains spells and her ability of return damage per horror.
      Also if you play as Skids and you have switchblade and you draw crypt chill during mythos phase and fail.
      You can pay one resource to play switchblade and put it into discrad pile because of the fast keyword and the fact it doesn't specify when you can play it. So instead of wasting resources on physical training, discarding powerful assets or taking 2 damage you just pay one resource and discard weak switchblade card.

      @@greatdude7279 I know I'm really late on this, but that example isn't entirely accurate (still if anyone sees this, I just want to make sure that the information provided is accurate). While fast events and free triggered abilities (effects that start with a lightning bolt) can be used whenever you have a player window (unless they say otherwise), fast assets can only be played during your turn. Secondly, when it comes to cards like Crypt Chill, you cannot use a fast event or free triggered ability in response to failing them, as you don't have a player window at that time (Lucky is special, since the card itself says you can play it after you fail, thus creating an exception), the only player windows during skill tests is directly before or after you commit skill cards (and both are before the chaos token is revealed). That being said, you do have player windows before drawing the chaos token in any skill test, and you should take advantage of those, as normally the only player window in the mythos phase is at the end of the phase.

    • @Illdos
      @Illdos Před 3 lety +5

      @@sooner811 A couple (that have been pointed out by others): The video implies that to advance the act, each investigator needs to spend the number of clues listed, when in the game you just need to spend them as a group to reach that total (so you could have Wendy spend 4 and Roland 0, or Wendy 3 and Roland 1 and still be fine).
      It also implies that the Ghoul is engaged with Roland because he matches its prey instruction. Prey is only relevant for breaking ties for enemies with the hunter keyword when you have investigators that are equidistant from each other, or for when deciding who to engage after they are already in play (this is different from when the card is drawn). When an enemy with Prey is drawn, it is always engaged with the investigator that drew it (unless it has the Spawn keyword).

      The ghouls are kind of on the ghoul side. Their agenda doesn't involve humanity's destruction, and they know that the coming of the Great Old Ones will spell their end as much as it will spell ours, so they're tentative allies. Unfortunately, they're also "people" with free will and comprehensible motivations, so they can fall into Outer God worship just like humans can.

    13:56 Fantasy Flight Games From all the videos and rulebook regarding Prey, it would seem that this Ghoul should attach to Roland as he’s the one that drew him, regardless of if he didn’t have the lowest health. It’s my understanding that Prey only comes into effect if the Ghoul is not Engaged when it Readies and there are multiple Investigators at its location. Can anyone else confirm?
    Edit: Disregard this comment. About a million others already pointed it out.

    Some clarification please. When Wendy had the cat and had to do the agility test, why didn't she add the cats agility to her own? Making it 6-4 instead of 5-4. Shouldn't she have only taken one damage or do she not include her ally on a revelation check?

    • @NadiraJamal
      @NadiraJamal Před rokem +2

      She can’t do that because she already played the card. Only cards in your hand can be committed to a skill test. (That may be possible via special mechanics that I haven’t run into yet, but not in this situation.) Since the card has been played, she can access the abilities in the cards’ text, but the skill icons are no longer relevant.

    I am a first time buyer and player of your awesome game Arkham Horror The Card Game and have just purchased the complete Dunwich Legacy Cycle (Deluxe box with the 6 Mythos packs). Unfortunately, after that there are no cycles available to buy apart from the very latest release "The Dream-Easters Cycle"
    Could you please answer a couple questions:
    1) Are you going to do more printing of the earlier cycles as I was wanting to buy "The Path To Carosa" cycle next?
    2) I live in Australia, so if you are printing the earlier cycles, will they be available to buy in Australian board game stores?
    3) Do the cycles have to be played in the correct order? E.g. I start with Dunwich Legacy Cycle but after that the only cycle available to buy in Australia is "The Dream-Eaters Cycle". Can that be played next?
    4) Is there any way of purchasing the older cycles if I live in Australia? Can the cycles be bought from Fantasy Flight games or some website and posted to Australia?
    Thank you so much for your help!

    I believe all non-gathering encounter decks play are put aside and play no role in this scenario.
    step 9:
    "The encounter sets used in THIS scenario are (card identification numbers in parentheses): The Gathering (cards 104-119), Rats (card 159), Ghouls (cards 160-162), Striking Fear (cards 163-165), Ancient Evils (card 166), and Chilling Cold (cards 167-168)."
    The ordering is wrong: step 14 should follow step 9
    "Set every other location aside, out of play. These cards are the Hallway, Attic, Cellar, and Parlor (cards 112-115)."
    add: Also remove all non-gathering cards, aside, out of play, they play no role in setup of this scenario.
    then:
    "17. Assemble the encounter deck. Take the remainder of the cards found during step 9 (i.e., the cards that were not already used for another purpose in steps 10-16 AND WERE NOT ALREADY SET ASIDE), and shuffle them together to create the encounter deck."
