- In this video we begin our build of the Tamiya P51B Mustang in 1/48 Scale. In this edition we will concentrate on the cockpit. This is kit no. 61042.
This kit is Tamiya's Aircraft Series No. 42
Released in 1995, it is a favorite kit to build by beginners and experienced modelers alike. I hope that you enjoy this video.
The cockpit is looking really good!
Thank you Floki!
Your Mustang is coming right along. Nice job on the cockpit. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff
Thanks Jeff👍 Having fun so far!
Nice work. The cockpit looks great.👍
Thanks Charlie, it's working out pretty well, of course I'm not a pro like you, but I'm trying! Model on buddy!
What a great idea with the tape on the radiator. I’m building the Tamiya p51d as my first aircraft model in 35 years and couldn’t figure out how I was going to handle that situation. Now I know. Thanks
Thanks for watching jdxah, glad I could help. Good luck with your Mustang! Johnny
I like your technique, I'm just starting again building plastic models, now starting the same kit
Thank you so much, very kind of you to say. Just make sure you closer attention to the decals and don't make the mistake I did and put the wrong one on LOL! Good luck with your build and have fun! Johnny
Great video my friend you done a fantastic job on the painting and detailing great tip on the white for the instrument panel thanks for sharing and stay safe 👍🙏
Thank you very much Rob! I really appreciate that my friend. Model on!!😁
Great cockpit and instrument panel assembly and detailing👍
Thanks a lot David!
Great stuff mate Working on its brother the P51D 1/48 Tamiya
Keep up the brilliant work Champion, Cheers Jason
Thanks Jason👍The fit on this kit is fantastic. Model on mate!
Cool job with this Mustang cockpit ! Best regards , Robert .
Thank you Robert, I really appreciate your looking in! Model on my friend!
I can’t believe tamiya didn’t provide a decal for the instrument panel.. everything is looking great so far… model on buddy ✌️
That would have been nice to have a decal for the instrument panel Jared, but it is an older kit, 1995. I think I'll do it with a closed canopy so it shouldn't be an issue. Model on my friend!
I really enjoyed this video. I'll be starting this kit in the next week or so and found the little hints/tips useful. Thanks for explaining things so clearly and saying what, and why, you were using the various techniques.
Thank you Count Macula, I glad you found something of use in this video. I think you will enjoy this kit, it goes together very nicely. Thanks for watching, take care and model on my friend. Johnny
I have missed the unboxing of this one! Nevertheless you are full of surprises and a Jack of all trades my friend!! A very nice and solid start on this aircraft. Thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work.
Thank you kindly George, this is a really nice kit, even considering that it's from 1995. The moldings are very nice and it fits together very well. Thanks for tuning in my friend, model on!!! 😁
Exactly how I work except I wouldn't have bothered with the gloss coat . I Use a thinned enamel wash and let capillary action do most of the work .
Hey Bob, thanks so much for tuning in to the build, I really appreciate it! As for me, I've had some bad experiences with not using the gloss coat, with the panel liner wicking out and staining the paint, and some issues with the decals silvering on me, so I use it as a safeguard from having too much of that to clean up. There are a lot of things that come into play, such as the coarseness of the paint used and the right mix of thinned panel liner, etc. At least, for me, this gives me the best consistent result that I can predict what to expect, not that its always predictable, LOL! I guess the right answer is "what works for you". But I will say, that if you're looking for a grimier look, leaving out the gloss coat will help with the blending. I hope you're having a great weekend my friend, stay safe and hope to see you next Friday! Johnny
Looking really good so far!
Glad you think so Brett!
The fuel tank is black because it's covered in rubber. Makes it self-sealing, so wouldn't be dry-brushed aluminum. Nice build.👍
Thanks for the tip, and for watching, take care. Johnny
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Helpful and entertaining 👍
Glad you enjoyed it Scott. Thanks for watching. Johnny
Between 2.31 and 2.38 I realized that indeed the right hand canopy railing is larger than the left. The gap between them and the seat buckle head is different.
I was about to modify it to be equal but apparently is not the case.
HI, thanks for watching. I didn't have any fit issues with it so I didn't have to modify the cockpit fit on my kit. Take care and model on my friend. Johnny
@@hillbillymodeling thanks.
Well looks like I'm going to have to pick this kit up. As well as several of their other 48th aircraft kits
Hey buddy, I like the color choices. Looks aces so far. Looking forward to more. See ya mate
Hey, thanks Mikey, it's coming along. The fit is really good on this kit!
@@hillbillymodeling What did you expect? Tamiya is the best!! lol
@@MVeminor7 They are!!!
