I just got the same model, new in box packed for 32 years and it works just fine! I did realize that when the volume knob is down low, the music dies out completely. Does yours do the same?
It should not be. Most likely your volume control has oxidized. It is easy to restore it, you need to disassemble the front panel and spray inside the variable resistor with a special tool for this purpose and turn the knob. (In extreme cases wd40 or alcohol + oil is suitable)

Also another thing I noticed if I turn the volume up full 100 percent (without music) I can hear some background noise, maybe interference type sounds. last point: I dont understand how and why the cassette decks are fully functional after 32 years of storage, I thought the belts melts away if unused. Weird!
@@Shamsithaca Yes, it can oxidize even if it hasn't been used, especially where the humidity is high or the storage temperature is different than indicated in the instructions. The background can be for the same reason, but sometimes the solder cracks on the boards and the contact disappears, in this case it is necessary to disassemble and check the tracks under a magnifying glass and if there is such a thing, solder it with a soldering iron, sometimes the capacitors flow / dry out, in which case they should be replaced, if you have an esr tester, you can do it yourself or take it to professionals for repair. Hello! I plugged the mini jack wire into the phone (where the headphones are inserted), and the other end of the rca connector into the Sony "DAT" input.
