- In 2015 the son of Jim Hall, Jim Hall II, brought his father's legendary creation the Chaparral 2 for display and a few exhibition laps before the start of the 12 Hours of Sebring race. It was also the 50th anniversary of this Chaparral's epic win at Sebring back in 1965. This was one of my favorite cars as a kid in the 60s so it was very cool to see it in person. I recorded the car on display and being pulled out and prepped before doing those exhibition laps. Here's my video of Jim Hall and Hal Sharp's Chevy powered prototype, the Chaparral 2.
yeah man it was my favorite slot car 🚗 😊 when I was a kid and still is😊
When I learned the car was going to be there, I had to go. Great images!
I didn't know it was there until I walked into the Gallery of Legends and was surprised to see it on display and then got excited to learn it would be doing some laps. It was my favorite car as a kid because it looked so cool and because I liked saying the name, Chaparral ha! I wish I could've got it coming out of turn 17 at full song on video but I only had the GoPro to record video so I took pictures instead. Glad you got to see too.
@@onephotographerslife Similar story here, even had the Cox 2E slot car. I was looking for myself in the background of your indoor video! I got a bunch of stills of it passing under the Corvette bridge and through the Gurney Bend. Nothing spectacular to see as I was long out of practice with my camera.
That is a striking looking weapon
you do a masterful job ........
My Boy Scout troop worked as press runners for the speedway back then, the Chaparrals were awesome but they couldn't stop those long-tailed Porsche 917s. And there was always the ever-present local, Al Levenson in his solo drive in a Corvette convertible. Btw I had the Cox sidewinder slot car and soon swapped out the body for the clear plastic vacuum-formed body. Made it much better.
I was just wondering if that Cox sticker was an ad from the model company.
Was there that week
Looked good, sounded better
Saw them running at Elkhart with my dad as a kid
