Lancia Flaminia Super Sport is Elegant Simplicity

- Had the James Bond series been set in Italy, this would be his car. Instead, this Lancia Flaminia Super Sport Zagato belongs to Mr. Robert Giaimo. And you could be excused for wondering about the powerplant, pace, and reliability. To answer your questions: a 2.8L V6 with triple two-barrel Weber carbs, it can cruise comfortably at 100mph like any grand tourer worth anything, and fairly good now that it has a braided throttle cable. But if you're asking those questions your missing the point.
The Flaminia Super Sport, bodied by Zagato, is simply about style. Simply, being the operative word because the shape is so pure and unadorned. The Lancia was blessed with taut lines, classic proportions, and is mercifully devoid of any extraneous details. The driving experience is undiluted as well and Robert does drive it.
He loves the solid mechanical connection between the gear lever and transaxle (yes, the transmission is mated to the differential), between the tires and steering wheel. Even though he also has a modern sports car that he enjoys, the sensory feedback the Lancia creates and attention required to drive it enhance the experience.
But it really always comes back to the Flaminia's style, "You can intellectualize about it. But it just hits you in the stomach - it has soul." We couldn't agree more.

That's my dad! I am a lucky girl. Thanks for making such a beautiful video about my father and his beautiful car. Great work!
your welcome :)
U are beautiful like car is :)
Was this video shot in or around Santa Barbara? I think I've seen this exact car at my local Car&Coffee event
Adam Protter it looks a lot like Napa. He said he takes road trips in it though
Your Dad is excellent.
Petrolicious gets the like button every time before I even watch the video. Every video is nothing but excellence and they have never ceased to amaze.
completely agree.
I love Lancia! I'm 18 and I'm obsessed with the Fulvia and I am so convinced I want one as my first car, purely because I love cars, the Fulvia speaks to me more than almost any other car ever made, and I wouldn't mind spending an extra 3 or 4 grand over what my friends are spending, just so that I don't go down the typical toyota aygo / vw polo route. Thank you for doing these videos, they remind me why I love cars.
From what I heard, they are a pain to maintain so I wouldn't get it for a first car especially when I don't have a money for a daily.
CorNVex Too late lol, I've had a Fulvia for about 18 months now. Total pain in the ass sometimes but I wouldn't trade the experience for the world.
Nice. I would really love to own one only if I had the money and if only I was old enough to drive.
@@Munkenba still owing the Fulvia? What series and model is?
@@RetroRidingEveryday Unfortunately not, it was a series 2, lovely thing. However it really wasn't easy to own day to day and you never knew when a bombshell of a repair bill was just lurking around the corner. I'm glad I've got memories of my dream car now but the truth is it's a difficult reality sometimes.
Many years ago, I had a Flaminia Pf coupe. Paid $1200 and it came with the trunk literally FULL of spare parts - filters, cables, gaskets, rebuild kits for the carbs, boots for the drive axles, even some trim pieces and handles. It had the Nardi heads and 3 Webers and would cruise at 90-100 smoothly and quietly. The ex-wife and I did three trips from TX to CA in it and never had a spot of trouble; it even got over 20mpg on the road at speed, which was impressive (even if 5-star fuel was under $0.40/gallon back then). I parked it on the street in front of my favorite florist shop in Houston and a drunk idiot in a big Chrysler hit it at about 50mph...on a street with a posted limit of 30. The car was not repairable, even if the insurance company would have foot the bill. But I bought the hulk and salvaged most of the drivetrain for a spider that I still have 40 years later...and it even has the factory hardtop. I've had Ferraris, Maseratis, an Aston and a couple De Tomasos...but I eventually sold them all, and I still have the Lancia. GREAT cars, until Fiat intervened.
You sound like a person, who deserves to own such a beauty, thanks for uploading.
There are a lot of great cars featured on this channel, but I keep coming back to this one.
What a beautiful car!
Absolutely gorgeous! Thank you for preserving it.
"I'm not one to keep it in my garage and look at it", God bless you, sir. If you own something as beautiful as this, please keep driving it!
Great car. That guy seems like he's where I want to be when I'm in my mid-late 50s.
Why is it that the reviews on Vintage Italian cars always seem to resonate most. Another wonderful feature.
Beautiful car beautifully driven by a man who appreciates it's elegance. The Zagato lines are immediately apparent.
What a beautiful car. So many models I have never seen, it amazes me. I like this owner because he was down to earth and seems like he truly appreciates the beauty and quirks of these older cars. Very well done piece, too short as usual.
Finally I found somebody who knows how to pronounce Lancia, well done 👏
Zagato did very well with this and also his little Fulvia coupé. Although the Flavia made efficient use of the space available for the body, was well put together, and had some interesting features, I don't think I'm alone in saying that the styling was more dramatic and striking than it was attractive.
Well put mate.
@@p.kuansuwan2070 Thanks. Only a few Flavia Zagatos made their way here. I was lucky enough to own a Flavia Pf from the late 60's to the early 80's. It was much more suitable for aa young man, and also very well suited to the roads and journeys here. It was such a good car overall that my mother bought herself a Flavia sedan.
This guy deserves to have the car and this car deserves the owner !
Great car from back in the days when Lancia was making obsessively detailled beautiful machines. Brings across the specialness of that car rather nicely!
Petrolicious! You folk are head and shoulders above anything else out there. You keep raising the bar. Keep doing what you do...
Hoooòooo!!! Finally somebody who knows how to pronounce Lancia, thank you !
What a beautiful car.
It is really nice that he enjoys driving it, this car deserves to be showed to the world.
All cars deserve to be showed to the world
Apple-Bit Gaming All cars?
Dethmeister Yes, good or bad
Absolute gorgeous car
With my deep compliments; so few people know this wonderful choice; an italian style's great example; maybe one of the greatest; I had a 1955 Lancia AURELIA B20; find a movies about it and see another wonderful Italian car
finally someone who can spell "Lancia" correctly.... :D
LOL the name's so cheap it ain't even worth spelling right, let alone pronouncing.....
This car is Gorgeous!
I am a Lancista (I also like Alfas, of course..) and I do get sad watching these beauties because nowadays Lancias are miles away in terms of image and engineering but this is something you cannot avoid. To build cars like that, today, you will need the budgets of a supercar...
Mr. Giaimo, this car really opened my eyes. The car is astonishing!
Thanks Mister and ***** For this! I am 20 years old and born 50 years to late, and you make it possible to enjoy this lost years of automotive beauty.
That trunk is super cool. I like that the base of it runs flat out to the exterior so there is no lip.
Curves in all the right places. Excellent video!!!
What a beautiful car... loved it
Those are very beautiful cars. Great to see it's used and not just a museum piece
I really need the jazz song from the beginning!
"Had the James Bond series been set in Italy, this would be his car."
James Bond isn't an idiot: he drives this car for fun at weekends.
Lancia cars are fantastic machines and must be driven as you say. I have a 2000HF coupe and a 1300S Fulvia also great cars to drive. Enjoy Bob
Alfa Romeo = Boy Racer's car... well he's got a point. I feel like I can take anything on in my Quadrifoglio Verde ;)
Stunning car. Never seen it before. Bravo Lancia!
Man how did I miss this video from Petrolicious. What an incredible looking car, just stunning.
congratulations Mr. Robert Giaimo; I am a Lancia Club' supporter and I had FOUR Lancia car in my life; simply elegant; elegance is a state of our spirit, firstly
Gorgeous!
I have to say as a lover of all cars, regardless of origin. Something really draws me to the Lancias.
I have seen one yesterday!...beautiful and very elegant car!
MAN, The Flaminias ssz realy have a place in my heart, i´ve seen one adapted to rally an i have to say that´s one of the sexiest car i´ve ever seen
It is one of the must beatiful car of ZAGATO factory...He make body for Abarth,Alfa R...
Thanks Petrolicious!!!!
this would have competed with maserati and the other "junior" extremely high end brands back in the day... but given choices like the maserati 3500, aston martin db5, porsche 911. I would still take this car every time! the v6 has some of vittorio jano's magic in it and that alone makes it worth every penny
I hate you guys at Petrolicious......every time you show a video I end up wanting that car. Great job once again. Italian cars are my favorite.
looking outside of the windows is like being on an acid trip, wow, i guess no other car gives you this feeling!
Simply elegant.
Push-start button in the 60's!
beautiful
Lovely car. Great details!
I wouldn't know the existence of this car, very beutiful!
Excellent video. I love Lancias. Love Petrolicious too. Really well done. To correct the owner of this Lancia Zagato, it's pronounced LAN-CHA, not lan-see-a.
Ciao
Nice car.
Saw one in the flesh a few years ago at the Nürburgring Oldtimer Grand Prix. Soooo much style.
Beautiful.
The video is as good as the car...
Beautiful!
A great job, once again, guys.
“My wife loves the trunk which is huge…” 🤣
A real lady!!!
You’ve got to hand it to the Italians. Genius Italicus!
beautiful proportions, i love it
Now that is a nice car!
Looks good, sounds good. Thank you !...
Cool car cool channel absolutely love these videos!
I loved the Flaminia (sport) Bertone - the Cinderella never mentioned ...
a new video every tuesday?!?!?!
this must be a full time job for you guys!!
262 likes, 0 dislikes, that's impressive
Such beauty. Would've appreciated a bit more flogging though. Italian engines usually have a really throaty sound.
beautiful accompanying sound track.. the estate gateway is most cool.. cleverl 3 step ignition, and my bet is boot length isn't to stack ski's but golf bags. I always get something richer added from Pet-Tales when owner's home is woven into the tell .. Canyon
Again super nice video! :)
That's the most beautiful lancia ive ever seen which is a big statement. I can't believe it's here in the states too. Id ask what it would cost to find one, but I'm sure I can't afford it. I'll stick with my boys toy Alfa Romeo 4c for now.
If I remember correctly,Marcello Mastroianni used to drive the open version.
The photo with Mastroianni and his brand new Flaminia Super Sport is very famous! Theres also one with the Flaminia GT convertibile but i don't know if was his.
Una vera Signora.
Marcello Mastroianni had one of this Flaminia Zagato in sixities
Superbe doc, Does anybody know the first jazz song playing ? very catchy
Bellissima. Lancia 4 Ever.
I'll say it again Petrolicious is one of the best channels on yt...:)!!!
Groovy!
Gentleman car
Santa Ynez valley is a beautiful area to visit and take photos.
This is where Micheal Jackson had his infamous "Neverland" estate and Ronald Reagan's ranch "Rancho del Cielo" overlooked the whole area.
Nice car
if I was rich I wouldn't buy a lancia. I would revive the whole brand. Okay.. and buy a lancia too :)
good man. which one would you go for?
Can you please make a Video about a Tatra 613 Vignale aircooled DOHC??
Those early black ones with plenty of Chrome from CSSR, I love this car!
I also would love to see a Tatra 603 with aircooled OHV V8! (the 1960s one)
Sympa !
You should do one about the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV6 !!!!
No James Bond had chosen the very sexy Fiat 2300S Coupe Ghia Abarth, that is very close to the Aston Martin DB5, or he had chosen a Ford Osi 23MTS Ghia ;-)
I want one.
Why aren't ignitions like that now??
i even like the license plate. Video is shot in to dark surroundings.
This vehicle is more than basic transportation, much more than something to get from point A to point B. This right here, is a work of art; inside as well as out. A legitimate masterpiece, and fuck anybody who thinks otherwise.
Even the name "Lancia" is pure seduction; however, mispronunciation will do it a great disservice.
Gosh such a pretty behind.
great!
Great Car, so proud that it was made in my city, Turin. Just one thing...the plate is clearly a fake, why ?
do something other than italian cars! still love it tho
Once upon a time....Lancia..😥
Finally “Lancha” and not Lansia or, even worse, Lansha.
If you had a ferrari i assume you would have driven it as a special drive maybe a weekend or on a long tour every once and a while... point is not your daily driver, a ferrari would make the drive special. This lancia would make driving daily special back in those days because realistically it is a useable daily driver that could kick almost another car in its class *cough cough early 6 cyl maserati/aston martin
Isn't it LAN-SEE-A not LANCHHEA?
Lan-Cha is the proper pronunciation.
www.forvo.com/word/lancia/
LSG Drizzt Oh cool, the more you know!
LSG Drizzt What a useful website - thanks! Also, hat tip for the pronunciation. I had always thought it was Lahn-see-ah as well.
Until a few years ago I also thought Modena was pronounced "Mo-DAY-na". Whoops.
C'mon, guys. It looks handsome. squeak unequal What do you think?
How does this guy get away with driving on the street with a 50 year old Italian plate on the back, and a non matching Italian plate on the front?
Perhaps he just put them on for the filming.
May I add that the plate in the front is real and original as he said the the car was bought new by a person from florida while in Italy so the car's plates would be EE just like the one in front. The back plate is a fake.
John Cretella
I'm sure both plates are "real" Italian license plates, and that the front one may have been used on the car when it was first bought 47 years ago, but the chances that either registration has been kept current and is valid today are essentially zero.
gotham61 I live in Italy. The front plate is EE and it is a temporary plate issued to people that buy a car in italy but live abroad. After a certain amount of time the plate expires. The car didn't pay certain taxes seeing that it is meant to be exported so it has to leave the country.
The back plate is not real. The font is wrong and the number combination is incorrect and a small Italian Republic logo is not on it (you can see the logo on the close up of the front plate.
If it were real Roma would not be be written in capital letters and it would not be in the center and with such a small number there would be no letter. For that type of plate to have a letter it would have a total of 6 digits. Numbers started from 1 and went to 999999 when the numbers finished they started over putting a letter in it. If you are curious to see one look up:
vecchia targa roma on google images
John Cretella
Okay. But my original question remains. How is he driving a car around without legal registration plates?
This is legit car porn
haha,i'm a boy racer!
