it looks like they only took 3-4 thou off the deck, when you torque down a head gasket that difference is usually sealed

I'm more surprised Auto Makers aren't making them out of Plastic yet. Nearly 60% of engines built now are mostly Crap plastic that Cracks.
@@evildrizzt1 next season of sharp temp changes?? From 50-210 is sharp to me and thats a daily in the spring/fall not to mention winter of 0* to 210. 2-3 thou is not a big deal and that fresh faced head can be torqued to spec then instantly removed and will be out that much again without any heat cycles to warp it with…even worse if the block wasnt decked to verify it was true and flat
This is why I am tempted to remove the thermostat and just let it take 20 minutes to warm up lol

Ok, so for my fellow English-only-speakers here, what I think happened is this high-end car engine suffered a severe overheating issue like the radiator completely failed or the diver pushed the car well past its limits. It resulted in the metal of the engine block (shown in the video) warping and distorting. This is nearly impossible to see with the naked human eye, so the fix is to put the engine block with all the parts like pistons, valves, spark plugs, and crankshaft removed on a special milling machine to quite literally scrape off the parts of the block that warped and are now preventing the seals needed for the engine to work. That's why the blue, so the mechanic doing the work can see how much he/she needs to remove, and the quicker the metal goes from blue to silver, the higher that specific spot ended up when the block warped and the engine broke.
Warpage is normal and happens to all heads due to heat cycling. Skimming is done to ensure a strong seal between head gasket, head and block

Good point, learned from someone's experience about camshaft journals warping. The camshaft would always break.

Whenever you don't use coolant to machine aluminum, as long as your tool is sharp and you've already measured the warp, I like to write down the different heights with marker and then take me skin passes leaving the final pass depth around 0.003" and also slow down the feed rate.

Not flat unless the back side of the fly cutter makes a witness mark also. This just makes a concave cut because the cutter is not square to the head.
