This is a no talk build video showing a little hammer head being brought back to life. The handle is a prototype made of white oak with Black Oak burl palmswell.
Very nice job man! That black oak burl is gorgeous. I have done a couple laminated handles and this is giving me the itch to do another! You can never have enough hammers either, they are almost as addictive as axes.
Hey thanks. I do like leaving that red paint and patina. Unfortunately it didn't stay in my possession very long. My mother took an interest in it so I gave it to her. 🤷
Nicely done. I can't wait to find some white oak and try my hand at making a handle.
That turned out fantastic. Digging that palm swell!
Thanks man. I've got a ton of burl, probably gonna put it on everything for a while.
Sweet 👍🏼👍🏼
Good work on showing process, really nice handle on sledge 🕶
Thank you sir.

Right, I've been picking up every sledge I see when hunting axe heads. I'm going to hit you up on Instagram right now. I'll send you some burl.
Thanks
Lowkey fan-boying out rn as two of my favorite axe/tool CZcamsrs are conversing! Meeting of THE MINDS!?
@@mikenormandy9250 Definitely enjoy @@old_iron_axe_and_tool content 👍👍
I like how you didn't clean up the head.....that hammer is meant for work.....great technique and awesome restoration

Can you do a tutorial on how to laminate handles
Can do. I'm new to it but it's fairly simple. I'm going to do some more testing and once I have my tech down I'll make a video. 👍
What does the Dipropylene glycol do?
Once it swells the wood it won't evaporate. Similarly to linseed oil
