Best two hours I've spent listening to anything in 40 years.
And my man Perez. You never knew what he would do on air. I lost a lot of sleep.

The two years I lived in Jackson, MS (four college semesters 1973-1975) brought me into contact with this amazing freeform/progressive FM radio station. I'd never heard anything like it before moving there and never heard anything like it after leaving. Fortunately I drove on I-20 through Jackson to Texas 2-3 times a year after that and always tuned in until the sad day of the format change. This Listener Event was quite amazing and being able to catch it on CZcams because I could not be there has been a blessing. My musical horizons expanded in a logarithmic and psychedelic fashion thanks to the creative atmosphere served up over those airwaves. Hearing some of the voices in this forum that had not been heard in 50 years was quite a trip! Thanks to Ann Ford for pulling this event and "WZZQ The MOVIE" together. Thanks also for the tip presented at the end that if you wanted to find radio that sounds like WZZQ did then, one can listen to Radio Caroline or Radio Paradise. Keep on truckin folks!

So many memories of Serge and the guys, and how impressed visitors were from all over that we had a channel such as that, I caught a ride to San Diego with a sailor transfering through ZZQ when they give out people giving and needing rides to places, getting up to go to school and turning it on, or getting my first amfm radio in my car so we could pick it up, the surface isn't even scratched of what it meant to us boys from Canton, thanks so much for your effort.😎👍

I knew some people in Benton Arkansas had a huge tower antenna that picked up ZZQ, I'm not kidding I was there listening to it or coming back from Texas as soon as you were this side of Monroe you picked it up. Legendary, unreal glad I lived through it

I miss those days. I was 14 when WZZQ went off the air. What a sad day for us all.

I have heard Perez on the gallow show for 10 or 12 years every morning. I always had a picture of him in my head as a little old white man with a tennis hobby.

    Ann,
Thank you so much for putting this video up for those of us who couldn’t attend. I’m sure there would have never had enough room who could would have come.
    Keep up the great work!
I look forward to the movie when it has been completed.
Again thank you so much for you insight into what was and still is the greatest radio station.
    ✌🏼♥️🎶

Growing up in Vicksburg, I started out on the old WJDX-FM. Big fan for several years before I left town in '76. I remember Sergio. Wasn't there a guy who went by "Sebastian" also? At some point, there was a guy there named John Walton who went on to fame on the Walton & Show for 30 years.

Great stuff. I was thinking about another band that had a similar history like Folgelberg. Wasn't ZZQ hot on Buckingham Nicks in the same way as Fogelberg?

I have a question? At the end of the program "WZZQ the Movie" it states the last time WZZQ was on the air was July 2 1981, which is a Thursday. But Bill Ellison states it was a Sunday/Monday night when Warren Strain signed off and He (Bill) came in, on that Monday morning and read a card at 6:00 am. etc... Any one know which is correct.

Thank you for posting this. I did not know about the live event or I would have been there. ZZQ was a huge part of my high school days and I still mourn the loss. Spent years attempting to recreate a David Adcock/ZZQ extended playlist on my IPod. I still have a ZZQ vintage t-shirt.
