  • Greg shows you step by step how to prevent treated corner posts from rotting prematurely. Just taking the time to cover and securely fasten a good metal roof on your corner posts will page huge dividends in the life of all your wooden corner posts.

    Hedge posts will last a lifetime. You can put tar on top of your wooden posts too to seal them.

    Milwaukee M18?!?!? I knew there was a reason I enjoy your channel so much. LOL. Also, my son used that house design for his Eagle Scout Project. Our suburban birds found them immediately. Keep up the good work Guys.

    We've been using Lexington Fence Pro Black Latex Fence paint on our post tops after cutting the tops at a 10 degree angle to allow water to run off. Metal tops seem to be one and done, but wouldn't work for our horse pastures, as they are dumb and would figure out a way to cut their face or pull fly masks off itching against it... 👍

    Thanks for the video! The best part of all your videos you show exactly what you do. What is the best way to keep a LGD (around 6 months old)pup from escaping? She doesn’t chase any animal even went through lambing perfectly too. She’s really good with every animal we have pigs, sheep and lambs, chickens, cats, and cattle. She stays on our property but likes to protect them all though. She goes to each section to protect them all. We do have a LGD with our sheep 24-7. She doesn’t escape the 5 high tensile wire, but she climbs over our wood gates.

      You may have to put a long lease on the pup the same distance away from your hot wire fence. Let it be just close enough that the pup can't go through the fence all the way and get hung up. The idea is for the pup to touch the hot wire ( going to electricity school I call it). It will help them learn to respect the wires instead of running right through it.BE SURE to have shade, and or a portable doghouse there for it.

    Just a thought - what about having a higher up line protecting the phone jack spot but allow sheep to graze under that line if they are less prone to rub. I don't know if you will have the sheep on that farm, but that may be an idea to keep the grass shorter in that exclusion area.

    Hmm, most rotted posts I find are rotted off about 4 inches into the ground.

      If you char the outside edge of any section of post that goes underground, it will double it's life. It will take the water 2x as long to rot a post with a sort of hardened shield around the inner wood.

    What do you guys do about ticks and chiggers?

    • @ozarkrefugee
      @ozarkrefugee Před 19 dny +1

      Put Ivermectin or Cydectin on your boots.
      Also, during the warmer months stay out in the open, do not go under oaks or cedars, the ticks like those trees and drop on you. Stay out of wet low spots too.

      @@ozarkrefugee No you'll track that stuff on your pastures and kill soil life there are other natural ways to deter and kill ticks. Actually you mentioned cedars, cedar oil deters and kills ticks. There are other natural remedies using cedar oil and other essential oils the recipes are listed all over the web just search for them.

    Why not just cut the pieces of metal the exact size of the top of the post and screw them on top? Would be much faster and easier and still deflects water

    • @gregjudyregenerativerancher
      @gregjudyregenerativerancher  Před 19 dny +3

      I did that 25 years ago. The water followed the screw hole into the top of the post and rotted them out. Not doing that again!!!
