- CARNIVAL MAKING A CHANGE IN EVERY STATEROOM SOME LIKE AND SOME HATE.
It's not easy to please everyone. carnival cruise line is finding that out as they are making a change to every stateroom on their ship. It seems like a simple idea but has many people complaining they don;t want this in their staterooms at all.
There is an easy solution to satisfy both parties. Give us the option of turning them on or off. Something along the lines of say a light switch.😊
Well that just makes too much sense, you cut that out !
Now come on....common sense doesn't apply......
Exactly have a switch to turn it off then the cabin steward can ignore it, just turning it back on an turnaround day.
KimberlyStephenson-FL... I agree... but with the stipulation that if you turn off the switch and get hurt walking to the bathroom at night, you can't blame it on the Cruise line, have to pay for medical attention if needed and can't sue them.
I like it! Great safety feature!
Love the nighttime light sensors on Princess. They provide enough light to see, but not so much that I can't easily fall back asleep quickly.
I love the idea! For decades we would leave the bathroom light on and the door left ajar, for a night light. Which was real handy if you were on the top bunk. When I sailed solo I would leave the TV on the channel of the ship cam, with the sound muted, for a night light.
I like the nightlights. So much safer when you have to get up during the night.
We usually just leave the bathroom light on with the door closed. Enough light leaks around and under the door to make finding the bathroom easy.
We do that too. But we’re okay with getting around in the dark anyway
With all due respect, I couldn’t care less what you nor anyone else favors. I cannot have ANY lights, PERIOD! So I cover all that I can!
The last couple of Princess ships we have been on ( not new ones) have these lights. For this clumsy 77 year old, they are God sends. No broken toes or split lips. Love them.
I always just leave the bathroom light on and the door cracked a little. This is not a big deal. Carnival is looking at cruisers safety. We have already experienced this on the Radiance.
Hate the light sensor on Princess. I block them with my pillow or tape. I am a light sleeper, so when my wife gets up I wake up.
On Discovery Princess in May there were dim motion sensitive lights at the bottom of the side tables. Didn't mind those. But on Sky Princess in January it was the overhead light outside the bathroom and it was painfully bright to dark-adjusted eyes. Hated that!
I assume you guys always get an inside cabin, otherwise how do you deal with the sunlight entering the room at 6,30am? I've tried to cpmpletely block it.... but it's impossible... there always will be a little light penetrating...
@@user-bs2kd3kk6x The overhead light is way to bright at night. Use tape to stop it.
@@user-bs2kd3kk6x SAME!! Hate that hall light coming on and blinding me!!
We hate the light sensors on princess. The ones coming into closet/bathroom are so bright it wakes the room up. We cover it up. Yes we bring tape and take it off when we leave. The nightlight under the nightstands, we put those decorative pillows under them. Works great
I think the closest/bathroom is way too bright!!!! Dimmer light would be nice
The full lights ARE annoying. Too much light! But the little under bed ones? Those are fine...and helpful.
More plugs yes please
I have had those on Princess before and love it. Yes, while working with electrical, add in some usb ports.
That was on the Freedom last weekend. I thought it was a nice addition.
As long as the sensors point toward the floor so only feet trigger the lights, and the lights are soft, it is only a GOOD thing and will prevent stubbed toes and trip-and-fall accidents.
Just got off the Eurodam. There was the most handy light in the bathroom ceiling. So happy with that, we used it at night to brighten up the stateroom as we slept. Propped the door open so it shone into the room. 😁
I like the idea. We usually leave the bathroom light on and crack the door open. It's a great idea. I'm surprised that the ships that went into dry dock didn't get new outlets or more outlets.
Love the night lights on Princess and find them very helpful. I also bring a flashlight and a night light just in case.
Maybe put a little switch by the sensor so passengers can turn the lights off if they want to.
No worry for me, we always left the bathroom light on with the door closed because I'm a klutz and it gave us some illumination. It's especially good if you have a Cpap cord on the floor and you don't want to trip. Some folks are anticipating something when the question is have you even experienced it yet?
We usually leave the bathroom light on with the door closed. My hubby has big feet and runs his toes into the walls and the light helps. We will see how this under light works. -I agree Don...more USB ports!
I think the lights are a great idea. I also have trouble sleeping/getting back to sleep, but the rooms are really dark and a little light would be welcome when moving around the cabin.
When I sailed the Discovery Princess the first week of May. They were installing those lights under the end tables. They installed mine the last day. I only got to experience those lights for bone night.
was on the Carnival Glory a few weeks ago and they had a light near the bathroom that would come on only if you came near it. Loved it. I always bring a light for the bathrooms at night so I don't need to turn on the bright light. Also the Lamps were replaced which had a USB A & C along with the 110 Power for use. This was Great. Still wish they add more color changing lights to new ships or dimmable lights.
My husband and I like the nightlights. We've always brought a battery operated hanging nightlight with us. For now, we still bring it in case we get a cabin without a nightlight. It would be nice if they put on/off switches on them for the people who don't like them though.
Majestic Princess had them on my recent Alaskan cruise and they were wonderful !!
Like the idea of a spotlight shining on somebody sneaking out of the room to get a midnight slice of pizza or something! That would be funny! The light is helpful, hopefully the lights won't turn on too often. We usually take a nightlight with us.
“Hey you! You’ve had enough pizza!”
@@bryantsteury8910 exactly! Caught you!
@@PrimeTimeTravelers 😂😂😂
I am all in on the night lights. We have been bringing in our own!
The sensor lights on Princess drove me mad. I toss a bit in my sleep. Everytime I rolled over and moved the bedding the light came on. I was constantly waking up. I understand 1 sensor light near the bathroom but our mini suite had 4 seperate sensor lights.
I agree. On the Discovery, my covers kept turning the lights on. So I, too, covered them.
Fine with me! I usually bring a small night light anyway. I don't see well in the dark. 😊
We had a room with a night light and covered the sensor with a card. Problem solved.
We take a small sensor light for the bathroom. I don't mind sensor lights except I've heard some of them outside the bathroom are so bright that it really wakes you up. I wouldn't like that.
Love it... We bring night lights for the room and the bathroom.
Great idea!!!! I love it!!!!
Just off Emerald Princess and that had them. The ones next to the bed were a bit of a pain but the one outside the bathroom door turned the main light on. PAIN IN THE...
Anyway as Douglas Adams said "every Hitchhiker needs to know where his towel is"
I always have a battery operated night like I can use to find my way to the loo and leave it on the vanity as I do my business. It's original use was a light for reading a book. Small, but enough light.
So glad. Cause right now we leave the bathroom light on. I have balance and mobility issues.
Absolutely. more USB!! As to night lights, we bring our own, we also bring our own fan, we bring a travel power strip (non-ground protected) with plenty of USB and 120v outlets. 😎
Totally agree with the comment of an on/off switch for the motion-sensor night lights. There is that option on the light switch now for common rooms equipped with motion-sensor-operated overhead lights (with also the traditional options for off/on), so why not put it into the night lights too?
Had lights on Majestic Princess and the previous people had taped them, which I was fine with. The MAJOR issue is the motion sensor out side the bathroom... full brightness spot light. We HATED it but if we covered it you did not have light in the closet. We always bring a usb chargeable motion night light with magnetic mount. A much better solution.
A night light is a very nice touch! I like the idea!
Oh my goodness! Carnival is trying to make us safer! I bring a power outlet that has USB chargers, US style plugs and a night light all in one. If you don’t want the sensor to work just put a washcloth over it. No messy tape for the attendant to be bothered by.
We take small flashlights on every cruise.
Love my USB outlet in the light near the bed.
Motion sensor is a good idea. I was on a cruise that had floor lighting under the bathroom door that was on all night. It didn't bother me
Had an automatic light on the outside of the bathroom door on our last princess cruise. Fixed it with a bandaid over the sensor..
We brought a small nightlight with us on the Carnival Venezia, but it was fairly iseless as there were no plugs close to the bathroom door.
I like the sensor light. I use the bathroom during the night and I like it. I always take a sensor night light for the bathroom also.
We love the sensor lights on the HAL ships - they're just in the area by the closets and the bathroom, and you can pull a curtain acros so the light doesn't bother your significant other when you get up. They work great.
I personally would appreciate the light. This just illustrates you can't make everyone happy. :)
an on off switch for the feature would be great - we use a cheap portable rechargeable motion sensor nightlight in the bathroom and we use a 2.00 sleep mask so overall whatever they do is workable. i think over 30 plus cruises ive had maybe 1 stubbed toe incident at night and comically it was on my luggage that i didnt put away.
Some of the nightstands have lamps where the base takes up 3/4th of the night stand.
We had it on The Koningsdam, and we loved it. It's a low light and on the floor. There is no swinging bathroom door with a bright light. It only comes on when you get up to walk to the bathroom. It illuminates the walkway to the bathroom. You actually have to walk past it to come on. It didn't bother either of us, and I hate lights when I'm sensitive to it.
I just bought a motion detector for use in the inside cabins. Maybe the cruise lines should make it an option.
They have those light on the Oasis, behind the TV. We could turn them off and on. We liked it, so we didn't stub our toes on the coffee table or desk.
I agree with more USB ports, and also the size C which is the newer ones. If I were them, I'd make it so as the ports change, they could pop in a newer up to date module, instead of having to wait until reconditioning of the ship.
I can understand why some people would like it, although personally it would bother me. I wonder why there is just not a switch that would allow it to be turned on/off as desired? By the way, we travel with a tiny battery-powered tea light that operates on a built in timer for about 6 hours. We leave it in the bathroom and it provides all the light we need in the middle of the night.
Small Dollar Tree glow sticks! Put one on the bathroom counter top each night. Can also be put on the corner of the room counter top or desk and floor to light the way. No need for an outlet since most bathrooms don’t have them.
Keep up the good work!
When I get up in the middle of the night, I can’t turn any light on or it’s over for me (thanks Peri for this little gift). While I can appreciate the idea here, I’d prefer to have the nightlight as optional. Would a non-optimal nightlight ruin my trip though? Probably not
I just got off of the Vista and liked having it.
That sounds good to me as long as it isn't intrusive. Simple solution, give the night light an option to turn it off, otherwise people will unscrew the bulb or whatever it takes to darken it. That should please most people? Otherwise, I always bring masking tape with me that works to fix most anything.
They need outlets near the head of the beds for CPAP machines. As for the low light sensor for safety, I’m thinking that they should be just towards the floor like the isles in movie theaters.
Princess Discovery had these kind of lights🥰. Was beneficial to me. Wasn’t very bright.
Thanks
I don't mind the motion detecting floor lights at all, especially in the cabins with the raised bathroom floors. Yes to more USB's also. We also bring the multi-plug USB's.
The problem I had was that there was one of those in the closet area near the bathroom on my latest cruise. When the clothes swayed in the closet with ship movements, the light would come on. (No closet doors). Even if the ship moved, with nothing in the closets, 😮the light came on, and it wasn't dim either. Off and on all night. I like a nightlight, but dim, near the floor aimed at the bathroom door only. Perhaps for others, an on and off switch for the nightlight..
That sounds absolutely awful. I bet they get a lot of complains about that.
I like the lights on Princess when I get up
Love your cranberry hoodie
Sounds good to me. Additionally seems like there would be some switch somewhere to just turn it off.
We always have to bring an extension cord and power strip. 😎no lights plz
great idea....long overdue
On Princess, The lower light doesn't bother me, but I bring a small roll of electrical tape and cover the sensor for the one on the ceiling near the bathroom. I also take a towel and lay it in front of the door to cover the light coming in through the bottom.
It was on Vista in May.
It’s fine if there’s one person in the cabin, but it’ll disturb the other person. Having one in the bathroom is a good idea. P & O Iona/Arvia have a night light in the bathroom that’s on permanently. There’s also one that faces the floor near the bathroom door, it’s very dim. This can be turned off.
I like the motion light idea.
I like that idea .
And then I understand for light sleepers it’s a problem.
I like the sensors on the Princess. Just enough light
They had them on the Vista. The lights were under the cabinet near the bathroom. They were not overly bright at all. I was glad the lights were there. If your so sensitive to any lights. Ware a sleep mask. I do. They work great. You don't have to worry about light coming in around your curtains in the morning either. Problem solved.
I like the idea of the new night lights
I think this is a great idea!!
Yeah, those night are on new Sun Princess cruise ship and it doesn't bother me or my traveling buddy.
I would block the sensors for sure as it would it bother my cabin mate or myself if sound asleep.
If the cabin is completely black, we just leave the bathroom light on and crack the door. When I get up in the night, I use an army trick of keeping one eye closed so the bright bathroom lights don't ruin my night vision.
I agree, more plugs, sensor lights
We cruise out of Baltimore with smaller older ships. We bring a few battery-powered tea lights. Turn them on at bed time....off when we wake. Easy peasy.
Worked afternoon/nights for over 28 years. I’m down for safety.
Nightlights sound good to me. If you don’t like it, wear an eye mask. I agree, more plugs are needed.
I like the ones on Holland America. They’re underneath the wardrobes and aren’t overly bright but make getting to the bathroom easier.
I have no problem with them as the last 2 cruises I been on had them. I see both sides of it but its a good safety thing. Yes more plugs on the older ships be real nice.
I haven’t been on a cruise that had these light sensors but it would not bother me. I do think it’s a good idea to have these lights for safety sake.
I like the lighting ideal
Worked nights for 30 years, but light will wake me up- not when I go to sleep while it's light out, but if a light comes on it wakes me up.
I always keep a light on in my apartment (and sleep with the TV on). For me the lights are no problem.
Yes more plugs please I personally like the lights
I am so with you on more USB plugs!
Don don't know how many night lights I left behind on cruise ships. A built-in would be excellent
I am also a light sleeper and the rocking of the ship helps out and blocking any light sneaking in my stateroom 6am in morning 😂
Good idea for safety
Two daily cleanings is a waste of resources. They should have a override switch for the lights.
I think it’s a GREAT idea!!
I use nightlights at home. I sometimes leave a pole light on all night.
What bothers me and keeps me awake is TV, radio, music playing in someone else's cabin/ room, even at a very low volume.
