Agreed. Just about every Renaissance song is my favorite Renaissance song, but Running Hard is my absolute favorite Renaissance song, if that makes sense. And if it doesn't, well, too bad.
Oh my god, someone actually pointed the camera at the pianist and his keys, it's a miracle. Aside from that, a brilliant performance! Great voice, great costume and it's all beautifully played!
Always loved Annie and was always amazed by the music. Had every album they put out. The piano solo in this comes from Litanies by Jehan Alain, a French composer who was also the brother of the extraordinary organist Marie-Claire Alain. There is a CZcams video of her playing Litanies on the great organ of the Hofkirche in Luzern, Switzerland.
What a group...orchestrational rock combined with voice of an angel. Renaissance at Carnegie Hall (1976) is simply one of the finest production of all time. Annie Haslam--vocals John Tout--keyboards Jon Camp--bass Mike Dunford--guitar Terrence Sullivan--drums
A real musical genius, the piano played so beautifully by John was as important to the true sound of Renaissance as the soaring vocals by Annie. Thanks John R.I.P xx

My wife and I saw Anne and the exceptional group of musicians perform this song last night at the Homer Center For The Arts in Homer NY. We the audience in attendance gave them a standing ovation . Anne’s voice is still as pure and it was back in the day as they say.. I’ve been a fan since the first time I heard Ocean Gypsy 50 + yr’s on FM radio WOUR out of Utica NY
I live in northeast Pennsylvania and have seen Renaissance 6 times. Wondered why they played the tri-state area frequently. Found out that Annie Halsam relocated to southeastern Pennsylvania years ago as it reminded her of home,England.
THIS BAND IS SO AMAZING. I bought this vinyl at a "junk shop" in perfect condition for $1 and it's now one of my top 10 favorite albums of all time. I just subscribed.
OMFG!!! this is sooooo INCREDIBLE!!! I sooo wanted to see them in concert when I was in HS and never got the chance. Incredible quality recordings... wish there were more like this... THANK YOU sooooo much for posting these!!!!
I attended a concert in the spring of 1977 in Albany NY and was so impressed with the band. What a great vocalist Annie Halsam was, and great instrumental too.
Yes, she has an extraordinary set of cords. Maybe 2.5 to 3 octaves at very best. 5 octave range in a human being is not an option. Minnie Ripperton may have had a 3 octave range. A standard piano keyboard range is 7+ octaves.
@@dancingwater1582 Her measured range - Annie's - is 3 octaves and two full tones to be precise. Minnie's is 4 octaves. Minnie could get into the 7th octave though she rarely did because that's clearly not a very musical place to sing.
Thanks, 2old2rock. I appreciate it. What a band. And vondumozze, I agree about the other players. When I saw them way back in 75, Camp's solo on Ashes are Burning was just remarkable. I play keys, vocals and guitar. I rely heavily (probably too much so) on my bass player, so I always notice the bass quality.
The Simplicity and the Beauty of Running Hard is unmatched by most songs you hear today. Piano played with passion. Annie being Annie and the Group show they really enjoyed their craft and we enjoy to this day listening. Six thumbs down well you can't please everyone
Annie Haslam deixa as cantoras de hoje a anos luz de distância, seja no tocante a sua sonoridade musical, seja quanto a sua interpretação. É nota 100!!
The one and only Annie Haslam, thank you Renaissance for years/decades of treats for the ears. Least not forget Betty Thatcher, love your writing, rest in peace.
There were too many great bands in the 70s to single out a best ever imo. Bands like Genesis, supertramp, Floyd, gentle giant, jethro tull and many others but renaissance were definitely up there as well.
Still the greatest of all time. Lets see any of the crap today sound like Annie did back then or like she does now. Annie is the best female singer of all time. Thanx for posting this.
@@hotajax Maria Callas actually was good, as were Joan Baez, and one of my other all time favorites, Patti Santos. But Annie remains the best. As for Brittany Spears, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and other screechy soundalikes....meh.

Had never noticed before what exactly Tout does in the intro. That place where both hands get so close together and run up and down...it may not be Chick Correa but it's hard. Respect! And such a light touch he's got too!

I mainly listen to extreme metal, too. Renaissance are really good, but I don't see how they make Yes irrelevant.
