  • My interpretation of the tbnation dry hatch frame rail/drain how to. I framed this from 1x1 1/20 angle aluminum from Home Depot.
All credit for this design should go to Michael Lopez - please check out and subscribe to his channel below:

Thank you for being more detailed then the others you talk about. Keep it going. Appreciate it

Thanks. I'm trying - fairly new to making videos and did a large chunk of my build so far and didn't record it... I'll try to get an overview before I lay carpet while the inside is still exposed.

@@skylarhill3587 Yea, so the hatch lid will just go over top. The drain/frame I have there actually should sit flush with the rest of the framing. I'll try to get another video up soon.

Looks good, I am building out a boat myself, I appreciate your detail, my thought here is that you could rivet the frame to the top of the tote, then rivet the tote and frame (offset) to your core framing. Adam Ryan also did a really good jon boat build where he used the Michael Lopez method and is now a part of the tiny boat nation family. I think that Mike used 2" aluminum angle to frame and used the 1" (like you have here) to build the waterproof hatches.
Keep the videos coming. I think you will be surprised at how many followers you will pick up.

Sir, since you consider yourself as a dummy then welcome to the Club and you get an A for the great effort and work.

After you frame it in what do you do for the lid?

I've since sold this boat, it was my first build this way. Actually, I didn't complete it fully before I ended up just fishing. My lids were just plywood, sealed and carpeted with piano hinges from home depot.

Calling yourself a dummy is not good. You should try to stop the negative self talk.
