In 1990 I was in art school in Baltimore. There was a warehouse artist space near campus. Helmet played there one night and their PA broke. They played the whole show without vocals with about 300 art school kids gather around them in a circle. The energy was f*king amazing.

Smash Dalde uhhh, that sounds awesome. When I was in high school, me and my buddies used to go a little overboard with fungii and geek out on Tool records. That's when I realized they're not a sober band and there's something "in" the music--the warm pulse of universal truth. I can also credit that band for introducing to me to Bill Hicks. My life would be radically different without those experiences--a squeegee for the third eye.

Helmet were a huge inspiration while I was in my awkward high school band.
We were obsessed with tone and, pre internet, all we had to figure it out was magazine articles and what we could see during shows. My teenage self's mind would explode being able to watch him give a rundown.
I also enjoy how mildly awkward he is, no pretense or ego here.

By bandmate happened to be having diner there and called me saying Helmet is playing tonight. I jumped in my car and hauled ass down there. Great show. And my band played there almost once a month for a long time so it was awesome to see a childhood idol playing on a stage I knew very well. I got to meet him. Page is a very chill, cool guy. Easily my favorite, MASSIVELY underrated band! I saw them on the Betty anniversary tour at Harlows in Sacramento, CA. An ideal setting for a loud band... small space, sweat flying! They absolutely destroyed! The best live show I have seen since Ministry at the Capital Ballroom in 98. My friend and I showed up early to watch the techs set up. That was a great talk. Things like those make performing music live look pretty damn difficult, aren't they. Aside of already tough task of singing and playing the instrument there's a whole universe of devices to operate as well. Remembering how everything's connected, tap dancing on the footswitches and so on, head spinning stuff.

Nice to see one of these gear reviews shows where the artist isn’t all about ‘this old Gibson or that old Fender’. ESP’s are f****n amazing well built instruments. I have a custom Horizon 3 and an ESP USA Eclipse.. sold my Gibson LP Custom to afford that one and I’ll never miss it

My friends and I were playing hacky sack outside La Luna before a Helmet show in Oregon. Up pulls a taxi with the band, they ask where’s Burnside? We showed them the way and had a sesh before they jammed.
