I'd love to see a video of you showing how to apply the skin to the drum! I can't seem to easily find any videos on that.

Hello. Thank you for your shared experience and informations about this subject. If I can ask you something. How to take care of fish skin ? It is said the best is to play it regularly, and keep away from direct sun light. Thank you.

Well, just take care… 😄 no treatment. And yes sunlight is not good. Also strong and fast changes in temperature are not good for the tension… and heating it with the lamp is also not good..

Hey where do you buy your skins? Also I'm thinking about buying a skin to get a darker/warmer sounds to approach a bit the tombak sound which one would you recommend?

    Good morning,
Do you know what kinds of fish those fish skins came from? I've been looking into tanning my own skin for use on a darbuka I make myself, since while I can find goatskin fairly trivially, fish skin is a bit harder to come by where I live.

Hello, how the hell do you install those raw hides? Is it hard? I can not find any tutorial about it on youtube. I see there are some small ropes, but it does not look intuitive. I contemplate about clay darbuka, but without ability to change the head myself it seems like an expensive one-way ticket.. Also, how do you even tune the tension on these things, like if it gets too tense or too low because the weather changed?

I recommend just to try it. It is glued to the body of the drum and must be soked with water. You can’t really tune it once it is dryed on the drum. You can use a lamp inside to heat it up to make it higher for some time. Or you can also use a heated pillow or hair dryer.
It really not a rocket sience… but needs practice and experience - so you just have to start and give it some tries.

Hallo Simon.
