This light stand is kinda not sturdy enough because the light and soft box are so large; the whole thing can tip over easily. But it's what I use! 😆 Or you can perhaps find another light stand that is rated to hold more weight. Or just put something heavy (like sandbags) onto the bottom to lower the center of gravity.

Your guess that they cut out some of the after performance dialog seems right. All that buoyancy talk seems like they guessed that he was adding or releasing gas in the balloon via the string in his hand. So, since he fooled them, I'm inclined to think that there was an "invisible" string from above.
Or, maybe the visible string in his hand was thick enough to house a wire that articulated, i.e., mechanically lifted/lowered the balloon?
You should try to recreate all the effects from the foolers. It could be like a magician challenge.
@@kigjam6258 ...enjoy this one nothing "after" ...
Leon is the name of the main character from the movie The Professional. Leon is played by Jean Reno. Also starring a young Natalie Portman. And Gary Oldman.
And it's an amazing movie... it was in my list of movies to watch again during the pandemic. It was Natalie Portman's first movie, and she did an amazing work.
I'm going to check it out... thanks :)
@@JasonParkerMagic you definitely should check it out, it's a great French movie
I was going to say this.
I was going to comment this as well, I definitely enjoyed the movie when I was younger but haven’t seen it in many years
Best Wifi Name: "TellMyWifiLoveHer"
This is the one I use in my house 😆
Best WiFi name ever: "FBI Surveillance Van."
This is actually my current wifi name...haha
I have FBI Surveillance Van 2 and Van 5 (for the respective bands) as well as NSA Data Collection as a guest network
Mine is fbi surveillance van 9 and I feel it has brought down the crime rates in my neighborhood
lol
WATCHINGYOU
Think its based on the movie “the professional” - about a hitman called leon... brilliant movie 🍿
Wow, interesting theory. And yes, great movie with a great theme song.
That's what I was about to say. Also, "león" (note the "ó") means "lion" in Spanish, so maybe the guy is a dentist ;-)
And finally, "León" is a town in Spain, so maybe he's a killer from there.
My first thought as well~
I came over to write this. Also the original name for the movie is Leon. It was changed to the Professional for north america.
Or vice versa, I can't remember. ;-)
@@selynar4889 it's also "León: El profesional" in Spain.
The coolest wifi name i have seen was called "Hack me if you can". The funny thing is next day it changed to " Challenge accepted".
😐
My guess was that the "string" was actually a hose, and he was able to control a pump somehow that put fluid into the "string", causing it to gain/lose weight. This would keep the balloon weighted down when the "string" was full, and would allow it to rise when the "string" was emptied.
That seems very feasible to me. I think you've got it
@@philgallagher1 that's' the 'neutral buoyancy' comment (re: changing the density of the balloon by adding/removing heavy stuff)- but the balloon doesn't change shape during the act.
Nopp. The size of the ballon is not changing.
He used a memory cord and a switch attached to a battery under the sleeve.
A 9W battery does the job to heat the cord to the form, to pull the ballon down. The ballon is just filled with helium.
I think you are close but I think its even simpler, just use air. Higher pressure = heavier string. It would also be a less sudden change (compared to liquid or memory metal) allowing for the more natural floating effect. Tiny bladder concealed in his hand similar to a blood pressure cuff.
@@MrMurphyum right, but how does he pop it at the end.
His performance was superb.
I'm slightly surprised that neither you nor Penn mentioned the possibility that Xavier had a small rubber bulb in his hand; if this were connected to the balloon by a small tube in the string, he'd be able to control the volume of gas in the balloon, and hence its average density relative to the air.
Helium doesnt have a whole lot of power with that size
Off the top of my head, the the string was a thin hose pumping an alternating combo of helium and sulfer hexaflouride, helium makes it rise, sulfer hexaflouride makes it fall, but too much helium makes it pop, that or there was a small needle that popped the balloon at the end of the hose when it went just high enough to end the trick.
Rats. I see you beat me to it, except I said xenon.
He wouldn't need to pump more helium into the balloon though. The amount of helium required would make the balloon noticeably larger anyway. And, I don't think his hand could conceal enough helium to pop the balloon.
The SF6 would flow up into the balloon when he squeezed the pump and drain back out when he released it. The weight of the SF6 would keep it at the bottom of the balloon so it would always be the first gas to be forced back out.
I don't know how he popped the balloon, but that doesn't seem like it would be much of a mystery to a magician.
So where was the needle
close.. no mix though even simpler check out my above comment
K.I.S.S
I think he just uses helium and inflates/deflates it. You don't need 2 gasses.

Came here to say this
One thing I can definitely say about Xavier Mortimer is that whenever he performs on the show, his music gets stuck in my head.
My buddy lives next to a middle school, he’s a vet, got him to change his wifi to “Isis Safehouse” as a joke a couple years ago. Well it was only up for a couple weeks when there was an event at the school across the street someone freaked out and called the cops and a couple FBI agents showed up at his door to check him out . In the end they asked him to change it but it was so worth it, never laughed so hard ever when he called me.
I can't believe I'm listening to an Aesop fable in your dialogue, and digging it because I knew it. Well, I read it since I had the books as a kid. Meanwhile, that was a cool magic act.
I actually saw this one live (same day that Shawn Farquhar taped his performance!).
The string looked a bit thicker than balloon strings typically are and we never see his back... Something to think about.
The post performance interview was longer that what they air (as they typically are) but if they cut any of Penn's reaction, they didn't cut much of it as it's almost exactly as I remembered it.
The best WiFi name I’ve ever seen was “Tell my WiFi love her”
Love your videos!
Another good video. I'm addicted to your channel really funny an enjoyable magic content. Keep up the good work.
‘Pretty Fly For A WiFi’ I was in Norway and it was easily the best I’ve ever seen!
I feel like this is what Rowan Atkinson would be like if he was a french comedic magician instead of an english comedic actor.
Best WiFi signal I can pick up from my apartment: FBI Surveillance Vehicle. I think it’s actually pretty common but it’s a classic
I created one called NSA surveillance van. When I connected to it in front of my wife I thought she was going to have a heart attack
I miss these... Cheers, mate!
Great videos!
Always a good day when you drop a new video
Jason, it is always funny watching you try find meaning in these fables😂🤣 Reminds me of my poor English teachers trying to teach us poetry!😂😂
I was waiting for you to say String Theory. I love these videos.
There was this one Wi-Fi name I could pick up in my old apartment that was named FBIsurveillance..always had a little chuckle when I saw it lol
I had a neighbor's WiFi show up as "FBI Surveillance." Gave me a good laugh.
Awesome inspiration. Love this magical being!
the card bounce! epic =)
i always wait for ur videos rather than the original ones... Love the vids bro keep it up, magician to magician
I agree
I appreciate that!
Fantastic magic 😊👍
Love the content
in b4 100k subs!! Congrats, Jason--well deserved!
I also think the "string" is involved, like pumping gas or something. His grip on the string is awkward and looks like he's trying to palm something. And he gathered up the string at the end, because it would look silly and not mesh with the plot if he dragged it on the ground behind him after it popped, and he couldn't just drop it on the ground without revealing the secret. So he did the least-awkward choreography possible of just gathering it up into his hand.
Now, why didn't the balloon visibly inflate or deflate, is the amazing effect to me. But maybe this is achievable chemically, I don't know.
read all my comments so stupid will make you laugh i cant believe penn and teller didnt get it. im such a newb magician lol i cant figure out the tie for shit but the balloon .. thats it man
im a chemist, if he wanted to exchange gases (say CO2 and He), he'd need a whole mass flow control unit which seems way too big to fit on his person
He could just pump some water into the string from a reserve palmed in his hand. The string would get heavier and pull the balloon down more. Why play with the gases in the balloon? The string is right there
@@aaroncaratelli7660 Good point. And we can see even when the balloon is down, the balloon itself is still standing. It's only heavy at the bottom where the string is.
@@aaroncaratelli7660 not bad and id like to try the theorys but when he went to pop it would require gas as water would come out even if retained in straw or pump some would come out.. balloon in baloon only pops when over expanded by the inner balloon good times man
Pretty Fly for a Wifi is mine... I laugh every time I see it
hahaha that is good...
Very nice routine and even nicer narrative. Well done to both of you.
BRAVO 👏
Connect and Die - that's the most hilarious WiFi name I have seen.
Best wifi I've seen: skynet
Ok so when you mentioned the drone in the balloon, seriously I was screaming in my head. Because who cares about science.
So glad you dispelled that right away. LOL
hahaha
Best one ever: "Open"
He was so ready to give them the string !!
My theory is it does work like a hot air balloon. The way he was holding the end of the balloon string and the way it attached to the balloon seemed unusual. The string also seemed more like a thin rope than a string so it could have been some type of hose with an apparatus built in that uses heat to make it rise. He controls it with a device hidden in the hand holding the end of the hose, which the ropelike hose also helps conceal.
So the rope opens or close the air in the 🎈
No idea! Brilliant!
Best wifi name
“Don’t get on the flight”
Loved watching you move like a zombie when trying to explain your thoughts about "the string" Very Halloweenesque ;)
Hey Jason, just wanted to let you know how much i appreciate and enjoy your videos. Been a tough year this year, especially in entertainment but your videos always create a smile (your the first to use the phrase "smash dislike" i reckon lol). Keep up the great work my friend, your making a positive difference in a sad world.
I’ve seen an explanation elsewhere for the balloon: memory wire.
My thoughts were nichrome wire which heated the gas and made it rise, with extreme heat causing it to burst.
Either way, the secret was in the wire, which clearly was a wire, not a string. Nice trick but messy wire.
Was definitely a clean move turning left to walk off together!
I love it! 🔥
Also Best WiFi name: No
So, someone asks what is you WiFi password?
You: No
Ballon trick - First thoughts were a small Battery generating heat into Ballon then I remember a video about something called 'memory wire' could have been actually on this channel, 'memory wire' changes shape when a current is passed into the wire and reverts back to original shape when current is removed.
Funniest wifi name I saw was: 'PrettyFlyForAWifi'
Yeah, it has to be something around adjusting the density of the balloon thus its buoyancy. A fantastic trick and the engineer in my is fascinated!
Man.. the rainbow got me when you said magic.... I was expecting lightning or explosions lol. Nice rainbow
Right? Lol-what a pleasant little touch! Made me smile 😊🙌..

Got to love "The Router Limits"
nicely done
Best wifi name ever: Scream for password
First i thought about one of them surgical tools that they can steer around corners (basically tension wires in a thin tube). Then i figured an easier method, just altering the buoyancy of the balloon. The string is a small tube, in his hand he has a small reservoir-balloon- filled with water. He squeezes, water flows in balloon, goes down. Release, pressure of balloon drives water back, balloon rises. Some confetti and small explosive added to disguise the gimmicks. At the end all water is out of the balloon avoiding a shower. He pulls on the string/tube pulling it out activating a trigger and confetti.
Love your reactions. Always so positive ... in these dark times. Thanks. 🙂
Glad you like them!
alphadawn2015 lennon My times are dark because of illness and major depression (and both startet one year before corona). So please let me enjoy the things that give me a little joy.
alphadawn2015 lennon Thanks.
Ι saw in another video that probably this was done with memory wire. Amazing!!!
That card contraption (the hypercard) is a neat way to end a card warp without tearing up the proof. You can staple it to another (contrasting) card so as to make the error in space-time (or whatever float your pattership) a permanent souvenir. Can't remember who came up with this (maybe Wesley James?).
Jason, since you asked, I have the best WIFI network name. My girlfriend at the time pestered me for 2 full days to set it up. We are both French speaking ... in French WIFI is pronounced "wee fee." Anyway I finally set up the network and called it "Oui Fille" ... which means "Yes Girl" and is a pun since it's pronounced basically the same way. :)
haha very nice :)
I like the idea of having "Light" balloon that you are adding or subtracting a "Heavy" gas into, not impossible but would require some serious balancing, and a delicate pump (palmed).
Ox n Frog: when relating experiences by revisiting them know that fate's blow can be dealt again by re-enactment.
My buddy has the best wifi name ever...
"Pretty Fly for a WiFi"
Wow such a simple routine but I really can’t think of how he did it
Balloon was controlled by having additional helium supply under arm or behind the back (vest is sticking out like reaaaaaaallllly unnatural on the back when he does the trick and is all fine after) and when balloon popped it was obvious it's not a string but more likely tiny hose.
I think the fact that the balloon popped is very convenient for him since if there was some kind of heat-controlling device (which would make the air more/less dense, which is what Penn was referring to), it could have self-destructed and no one would be able to investigate it. Also, the balloon wasn't transparent which is another clue suggesting there may have been something inside of it.
My neighbours across the road. "The best son in law ever" obviously was set up by him for them. Better part they didn't know until I asked if that was theirs. Hahaha
Best wifi name: "YellButtocksForPassword"
How do you deal a pack of those 3d "impossible" cards?
The best Wi-Fi name I have ever seen is “get your own”
"Martin Router King" as Wifi Name ;)
1. Penn mentioned "dense," and neutral buoyancy; I think he was getting at Xavier doing something to change the density of the balloon, although in the end they couldn't figure out how. Did you ever see the children's toy with a water-filled plastic container and a "diving bell" inside? If you squeezed the container the diving bell would sink, if you let go it would rise. The trick was that the diving bell contained air, and was weighted to be close to neutral in the water. When you squeezed the bottle, water is incompressible so wouldn't change, but the air in the toy diving bell would compress, increasing its density enough to make the bell sink. I think Penn was hinting that Xavier had something similar going on-- but like Penn and Teller I have no idea how.
2. What am I missing about the "impossible" card? I won't describe how I think it was made, since evidently that's supposed to be a secret, but I'm not sure what's considered strange about it?
3. Aesop's fables weren't originally meant to be stories with morals; it was only centuries later that editors began adding morals to the stories. Aesop's original collection was meant as "useful anecdotes for speech writers." Some do indeed make a point or have a moral, but others are just jokes, sometimes based on puns in the ancient Greek that can't be translated. I think today you came across a fable that just doesn't want to be updated with a moral. It's proud to be a joke and stands by it.
re 2. - Most people won't see the "twist" in the hypercard because a card could usually be bent in all ways, ripped in pieces, but its very shape makes it pretty much impossible to twist. Of course, cuts in just the right places change all that, but the asymmetry of the montage makes it not too obvious. -- It's not so great as a puzzle, especially if you haven't stapled it to some other (contrasting) card as a sort of base to limit reverse-engineering, but it makes for a GREAT ending to a Card Warp.
Best wifi name ? "No porn allowed on this wifi" was the name of my roomate wifi lmao
By the way, I love your work and I love discoring magic toward you! (And you easy to understand even for a foreigner :p )
I think the pocket square appearance was done not by applying he pocket square, but by removing the tape covering the pocket square and palming the tape as he pulled his hand away.
String is a hose, Palmed controller to 2 direction valve ones and inlet ones an exhaust. Helium tank of some sort on his person somewhere. Holds inlet button and it fills, hold exhaust button and it drops, keeps holding inlet button until it pops. Ballon initially filled with mostly air and some Helium to make Ballon look full but balance it. That's my idea. That's how I'd do it.
Asob fable and the balloon in the magic trick. Nice choice
The string adds and subtracts helium, and there's a handheld control switch. When the balloon gets too full, it pops and the string drops.
Maybe the string had a hollow tube through which some kind of air or gas could be pumped from somewhere inside his rather awkwardly fitting jacket... or maybe the string carries an electric or static or heat element to the balloon.A sudden increase in delivery of this mechanism for raising the balloon could burst it, but so could a small fishhook at the end of the string and hidden inside the balloon.I seem to remember seeing something like this in a book somewhere, where a quick tug on the string makes the sharp hook pull against the inside of the balloon and burst it.Another thought I had was that the string could be a high tech design of sections of the string becoming more taut as if you had microscopic beads like small cotton reels with string through their holes which when pulled gradually tightens up the string- remember those funny wands that you had to hold pulled tightly together and then it would collapse when you said to a volunteer "here, hold this for me for a moment please" and when they gave it back to you you pulled on the string strung through the length of the wand. and the wand would go taut and appear normal again as everyone laughed.(either something like that, or some electrical high-tech switching is sent to the static sensitive balloon and thus heats it, or gives it some kind of static charge. Maybe the string wicks up water or oil or some fluid that makes the string heavier (dragging the balloon down) and then can somehow be sucked back out of the string into a reservoir somewhere in the magician's clothing , allowing the balloon to rise(it may have some helium in it and require a change of density or weight in the string to balance its relative buoyancy) ... nah! I've got nothing... it's witchcraft!
the impossible card cut looks better on a blank piece of paper, this one can be solved by aligning the sides of the card
Winter is comming.

Along with the hose idea, it could also be something that transfers electric charge. Just giving a little bit of static electric charge would repel it from the ground. I guess the hose idea seems more probable, but I can also imagine that using electricity would also work.
Hi, Jason! The funniest wifi name I've ever seen it is "My Neighbor's wife is cheating on him". Imagine this in a apartment building, now everybody is playing detective! :)
lol....
Neutral buoyancy. It doesn't float up, it doesn't sink, it just stays where it is. Scuba divers use weight belts to achieve this.
“Leon” is the name of the “assassin/hit man” in the amazing classic movie... ‘The Professional’ ... hence... “LEONKILLER”
where did you find this video? I want the original video
My wifi is named: Connecting ...
And it fouls me from time to time even so i know it is the name i gave it
A kid did that on a ZOOM school call to get out of his online class. He put his name as "Connecting..." Lol.
He was waiting for them to ask to examine that string.
It is interesting how he must hold that string until the end in order not to expose battery.
I think you need something more challenging to plug the patron with, the impossible card is kinda easy to figure out.
