This is how they work: the toy you are trying to win may cost a certain amount say 6 yen or dollars, So in order to make profit they PURPOSEFULLY weaken the grip of the claw until profit of around 50% is made. So you keep playing and spending money till it happens AND THEN it lets you pass. So yes they are total scams and a few strategies to win by some people are: 1- if you see someone losing over and over again then may consider going next. 2- play on the same machine and try not switching machines

The rule with ufo catchers in Japan that works for me is "2 and do." Because after 2 tries most of the time it's fruitless unless you are 100% sure you are getting your money's worth.

Claw machines have a function where they let go of the toy midair or use less power but after a certain number of tries they keep 100% power from my experience the better the prize the more likely they increase this number those were big prizes and you could see the claw opening up mid air the owners manuals show this feature that they have

In Taiwan, the claw machines show a limit of tries/money you have to give until you get the prize. You can obviously get the prize before it gets to the limit, but at the limit it will give you unlimited tries until you get it

As someone who knows a claw machine engineer, i can confirm they kinda scam you. Based on the item you are picking it will detect it and put the pressure that was been put in by the owner on it. It also sometimes loses some power in mid-air so you could not win.

Japan has a law against rigged machines so they're very winnable. They're mostly skill based

The trick is to know the pattern by playing on a single machine or observe a single machine . The machine is set to get higher grip on specific intervals ( sometimes these higher grip might also be random, in that case just try your luck)
In Thailand the claw machines tell you the max amount you’ll have to play before they’ll release the toy. Sometimes you get lucky, a lot of the time it’s either just before or on the price it states on the machine. They also show you how much you’ve put in. But don’t leave the machine too long and come back because it resets back to 0

Changing machines is not at good tactic as it relies much more on just raw luck.
The way claw machines actually work is they are programmed to only allow a win once a certain amount of money has been inserted (this money does not have to come exclusively from you, it is just a total amount accumulated but that amount varies machinw to machine).
So while you may get lucky and happen to stumble across a machine that has taken enough money and will let you win relatively early (or even first try on rare occasions), you have a better chance winning if you focus on just one machine.

Fun fact: the owner of the claw machine can rig them so that they only drop once every ceartain amount of times so they can make it a 1 in 24 chance or 1 in 2 chance
Play a single claw machine for about 1-30 times and you might get 1. It is programmed to successfully grab one every 21 tries(probably)
A little tip: don't do the ones that pick up the prize and drop it in the chute. They are all luck based. In Japan there are usually other claw variants that more skill based and will always eventually grant a prize. A good one is the one with the little hoop attached to the prize. Just get the claw into the hoop and it'll keep pulling it until it falls into the chute

I watch a lot of Japanese claw machine videos, and the way I see people do it is not "grab it and hope the claw does not drop it." The claw is not going to carry it all of the way. You have to use a different strategy, either positioning the claw so that the item gets pushed towards the hole when the claws close or aiming for a strategic point (e.g. a plastic tag that has a loop that can get caught in the metal part of the claw)
I always win at claw machine games (Ill share my Hacks for you to win also)
1. Find a claw machine that has many plushies and find a right spot to Grab it by the claw
2nd i always observe some claw machine cuz some are rigged i only play with more strength
3rd After you drop the claw double tap it to secure your prize ( it might not Be easy but try it)

It’s not just you they intentionally design the claw to have enough force to pickup the toy but not enough to suspend the toy while moving it so it falls out when you move the claw. Also the material the claw is made of doesn’t cling to cloth easily so friction is very minimal making it even harder to hold onto.
As a person living in japan for few years and obsessed with claw machines, one advice from me is never ever play claw machines in central Tokyo because they were programmed not to have strong grip so often which makes tourists spend too much. Try go a bit outskirt areas or not touristy place on weekdays. I’m sure you’ll feel the grip is different.
The ending reminded me of a young woman and her father who approached me in a casino at Vegas when I was 6 or so. They offered me this huge giraffe plushie that they said wouldn't fit in their luggage. I was terrified until my mom came over to talk to them and decided it was okay for me to keep it. We had to donate it when we moved back to Taiwan, but it's still one of my fondest memories.

The Secret is that right before the Claw touches the item, you have to tap the claw button again to do a solid grip on the item. That’s easier said than done though because if you tap too early, the claw might not get a good grip on the item. Too late, then the trick won’t work.

Its actually smarter to spend large amounts of money on ONE instead of multiple. The reason is the more money you put in actually strengthens the claw machine slightly until someone gets something out of it and then it resets. The smartest way would be to grab a hundred dollars and search for the claw machine with the most amount of people in a line since they would've spent some of their money and strengthed the claw by a bit themselves

I think moving around machines is what made it more expensive then it could have been. Usually I see people stick to one for awhile before moving around not sure if you did that because of how you edited this but I'd have stayed a bit longer at each machine.
Claw machines with only one doll in them, especially in an arcade made specifically for claw machines, are likely to not cooperate with you, on purpose.
Go for ones in regular arcades, where they’re filled with a bunch of stuff. They’re still likely to be rigged, but it’ll be a lot easier.
The strategy is to keep playing on one machine and asking staff for help 🤣 they’ll make it very easy for you to get the toy once you’ve spent X amount of money.

You need to use the same machine all night, they're programmed to tension slowly until a certain profit margin has been reached.
Usually, if you keep playing on the same machine, the strength of the claw gets stronger as you keep putting more coins in and playing (a.k.a paying more money).
So you would’ve likely had better luck and gotten a win faster if you stayed at the same machine for a while instead of switching around.
