  • The Boston Celtics could potentially reunite with Daniel Theis this summer. Theis is an unrestricted free agent. The Celtics may look to add Theis as a replacement for either Luke Kornet or Xavier Tillman. Theis has played for the Celtics on two previous occasions.
    Adam and Tim discuss a potential Theis addition before looking at other free agent options the Celtics could target during the summer.

    Theis is a great option for the vet min (based on whats out there) to replace 1 of luke/tillman if they leave. We need a legit stretch big off the bench to keep our 5 out. Not alot of those out there for the vet min.
    My top 3 vet min bigs are:
    1. Daniel theis
    2. Dario Saric
    3. Mo bamba (has some red flags)
    Bol bol is tall but counts more as a wing than a big due to lack of bulk and big man skills (like screening). Trendon watford profiles the same way.

    • @CelticsChronicle
      @CelticsChronicle  Před 5 dny

      I like all 3 of those options, and agree, adding another floor spacer would be a smart decision - Boston's 5-out is key, Bamba is probably the best perimeter shooter of the trio you've named, Theis is the most multi-faceted, though

    • @TheRobversion1
      @TheRobversion1 Před 5 dny +1

      @@CelticsChronicle yeah bamba cant guard in space. Theis is the most balanced as he can shoot, catch lobs, set screens (best at this) and passably guard in space (best at this). Saric is the better passer. Bamba is the better shooter and rim protector.
      IMO any big that cant shoot 3s, should be off brad's radar. Luke and queta didnt get time in the CF/finals. That tells you which skill sets are needed: shooting 3s and guarding in space.

      @@CelticsChronicle it would be cool if there are better options but the celtics hands are tied with the 2nd apron. Even with trades, my top 3 arent perfect fits:

    Theis will not give the team anything from what it has now. Let's imagine that Boston goes to Denver in the finals. How to slow down Jokic? Porzingis Horford and Tillman likely won't be able to handle Nikola. He will push them (Porzingis, Kornet) or simply throw over them because he is much taller (Horford, Tillman) from the Lakers’ practice in the bubble and the finals before last where Tristan Thompson appeared on the floor, I noticed that big guys seemed to be in their time (McGee, Howard) and Tristana the year before, they did not allow themselves to be pushed through and score easy points. Theis has no strengths. He's not a good rebounder and slow on defense. As the final with GSV showed, he could not do anything against players like Looney Otto Porter And Green, after which they stopped releasing him altogether, another 2 years have passed since then, and by the next playoffs even 3. He hasn’t gotten any younger or better since then. As a result, I don’t think that the team needs such a player, who cannot give anything new from what is already available
