Thank you for mentioning that you are wearing hair pieces/extensions. I‘m all for being real. And sometimes in hair tutorials the people have so much luscious hair and don‘t mention any fake hair, it sets unattainable beauty standards and makes me feel bad about the hair that I do have. 🥰
Absolutely! More people wear extensions than you would think!
*_Imagine how elegant you'll look running errands with these hairstyles😎_*
Love it!
All of these styles look so pretty and they even work for us non-dancers. The Balanchine bun and the French twist would look great for special occasions like weddings, the rest are also nice for everyday wear.
I completely agree!
I dance as a hobby, the hight bun and the french twist are my permanent hairstyles, even at home. If my hair is not in a bun you know I'm not doing well.
I love seeing the historical references within the ballet styles. The 1830s comes through Gisele, the braids almost make the hair look like an Italian Renaissance netted coif. So pretty!
Thank you!
"This French twist will change your life." Cue my skepticism. But oh wow, this is the first French twist method that has EVER worked for me. And it is so easy! Thank you!
i still cant do it
I do the French twist just like that as my everyday style, but with a jaw clip because I’m lazy. I have super heavy hair, but it works! No more ponytail migraines!
Yes! I do that too!
I always wanted to know how girls did french twists, now I understand that its magic.
Love her so much, these styles all look so pretty. I’m going to be a prima ballerina at Walmart from now on
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you Laura!
😂😂😂😂😂
The french twist one honestly changed my life!! Thank you for saving all my time and energy i will be wearing this all the time time now 😂😭
Of course!
"...do this until you have no hair left..."
(are you sure ???)
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Your French twist tutorial just changed my life. I've never been able to make one tight enough before but this works perfectly! Thank you :)
I have all of my hair back after chemo! Until now, I only knew how to do the artistic swimming high bun. Time to play.
Your French twist is how I would get my hair out of my face and hold it with a pencil in high school! :) For fine, slick hair that laughs at any curlers, it actually stayed in with one pencil! :) Of course, I was just sitting in class, so there wasn't much strain...
You look beautiful in any hair style.
I’ve never had to perform in the “Giselle” hairstyle, but every time I’ve ever tried it on my own out of curiosity, I ended up feeling like a Founding Father caked in too much Göt2B. Kathryn, on the other hand, looks gorgeous! 😂
You write good comedy x do more of it x
I went through 6 French twist tutorials today and this is the one that finally worked. Thank you!
You look so graceful
OMG - I love these! I’m going to try that French twist for an Argentine Tango performance
the juliet hairstyle is to die for
Thank you so much for making this detailed video on ballerina hairstyles!!! I have always admired ballerina’s fashion and would love to cooperate it with my daily outfit style. This video is so helpful . That French twist is changing my life, I have been trying to do French twist since 2015 but I never could make a good one, I will give all the hair styles a go tonight . Thank you and stay safe
Kath can you please film a collection of your tiaras/ hair combs for performances and explain us the best places to buy them? Thanks ❤
Thank you so much!!! These hairstyles are so beautiful & just what I was looking for! 🤍✨
Splendid!......Greetings from London from classical ballet eternal aficionado. 🙋🏼♀️
Beautiful ❤️💞🥰❤️💎❤️
I love the Juliet 😍😍😍 for class i do an awful attempt at Giselle or classic
Would love to see more ballet inspired ballet barre and center classes! Some of my favorite ballets are Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, and Sleeping Beauty. Would love to see a Nutcracker class as well!
That french twist is a gamechanger 🤯🤯
If you have lots of hair, I find it useful to do the high ponytail in two stages. Put hair half up first so you get the placement right & secure with an elastic. Then scoop the rest up, add it to the original ponytail & add another elastic. Then get twisting. I struggle with the back looking baggy & this allows me to get a sleeker look.
Doing two sections is also useful for everyday class buns when you have a lot of hair. I do about the bottom 2/3rds in a ponytail, then the top part can be pinned, twisted together, or use another elastic before twisting it all into a bun. It allows you to make the top section just a little looser so all the weight isn't pulling on the front of your hair (it helps prevent that "ballerina baldness" from really tight buns).
I remember as I first saw your hair video was years ago. How time flies Kathy ❤️
Lovely! You are giving me Vivian Leigh vibes in this video! Such a beauty ☺️ I'm going to try them all🌸
That's how I do my french braids too! Total game changer. Could never do it the traditional way.
they’re lovely 💕 juliet’s hair looks so great on you!
Thank you!
Thanks, Kathryn! I don't do ballet, but I could use these hairstyles for theatre when it starts up again after the latest lockdown (I live in Ontario). Anyway, I really like the way you break everything down step by step, to make it easy to follow along. :)
These are beautiful, but as a fellow short/thin hair gal I would love some tips and tricks for hair in class. I'm starting ballet as a beginner this year and honestly the hair is the most intimidating part lol
Hi! Katie did sometime ago a video about hairstyles for short hair for class. Look it up, it might be helpful!
@@PoisonedApathy ooh thanks, I'll have a look!
Thank you so much for showing the Juliet hairstyle I requested! This really helped a lot! I can’t wait to try it!
These silhouettes are gorgeous
Thank you!
Love this so much. Can you please do a video where you explain the differences in the makeup you use depending on what character you are dancing? I would find that so interesting.
She has previous videos on that
Those were some of her very first videos! :)
I know you have extensions but Your hairline and neckline look totally back to full health I’m so happy for you. My friend had a similar health issue. What worked for you in the end ? One of these hairstyles would be gorgeous with a wedding veil x
Okay, that French twist was really interesting and I feel like it might work even with my shoulder length curly hair. And I mean curly, not wavy. A lot of straight and wavy styles do not work on my hair.
love the franch twist!!!
So beautiful ✨
Especially I like French twist and Juliet 💕
It's awesome tutorial, I'm gonna try it definitely!!!
Thanks so much for this video! Its going to be so helpful to know how to these styles before we actually do the shows that require them!!
All the styles look so pretty on you!
Can’t wait to watch it!
I love this!
THANK YOU!!
I’m so excited for this!!!
Pretty!!
Just what I needed to spice up my first week back at school next week! I’m so pumped to try these!
Gorgeous!
I'm no ballerina, but I'm handy with my hair which is almost waist length and do a lot of updos. Thanks!!
Love these hairstyles so much!
Thank you🎉
Lovely hair styles!
Yaaaaay new km vid and a relaxing one to watch w insight into ballet thank youA
Wow these are great hairstyles!🩰
So pretty! Love this video!!
Lovely! Thank you!
These are beautiful😍Thank you!
I feel like the most important thing when it comes to buns is a good ponytail. It is basically the base of your bun so if its clean and tight your already partially there to having a good bun. :)
AMAZING
Beautiful styles and very helpful 😍😍
These hairstyles look gorgeous, I especially love the Juliet one!
Low bun looks so lovely on you!
Very interesting, Kathryn, thanks.
Thank you for this as you have made me remember the rather weird Royal Academy hair style my mother battled with every time I did a ballet exam in New Zealand in the 1960s. Regulations required a hairband pulling the hair off the face, which was then smoothed over the ear and put into a small bun ...all in a fine hairnet...A bit like a Giselle style but flat with less style!! On 8 year olds! That along with the very pink tights and the ‘sharkskin’ tunic made us look very strange.
Really beautiful hair styles. I've always been challenged with doing anything with my hair...
I wish we could wear the Juliet one in class omg
French twist is always my struggle. Thanks a whole lot for this video!! I love all the beautiful buns, elegant and beautiful! Thank you for sharing! 😍 ❤ 💕
I'll definitely try the french twist for next class, always wanted to do it but never knew how 🙈 p.s. you're so so pretty Kathryn, love your channel😍😍
That’s how I’ve always done my twists (back when I danced. And had hair😅😪). Either that way or from the top down. So much easier to tuck everything in that way.
I wish I had known this when I did Pas de Quatre. I can't remember how I did my hair but getting the hair over the ears was not easy. Of course, it's been nearly 40 years since then. "What you don't remember?" I love your smile.
These are beautiful!! Thank you for posting - I agree with the below comment that these styles are great even for us non-ballerinas 😉
I love your dancing and encouraging positive body image. Thank you for being such a good role model especially to young, up and coming ballerinas. It is much needed.
Blessings!
Love this, Katie! Your skin looks gorgeous by the way. And I love your top!
Thank you so much, Jessie!
This is going to be so helpful I'm going to yagp competition this month
This is so detailed and inspirational video. Thank you so much Kathryn! You skills, experience and talents are highly appreciated. Beautiful video!👍❤️
YAYYY😍😍😍😍
Loved this video! A tip for "pancaking" or fluffing braids from another fine haired lady, instead of pulling on the entire strands of the braid if you pull just a SECTION from the outer edge of each strand it provides much more internal friction and the braid will fluff much more effectively instead of just pulling apart and getting loose!
Thank you for sharing! Nice to see, even though I don’t do ballet anymore 🥰🩰
Love from Johanne, Norway 🇳🇴
Love these. I kinda feel like some could be worn to the office, too.
Yes!
I used the French twist tip for class last night and it worked so much better than what I’ve been doing!
Kathryn, you are so beautiful. You are an inspiration!! I love your videos. You should do some videos with Sean. you two were so funny!!
This was so much fun I like the low , Giselle buns and Juliet. Can either of these looks work for The Red Shoes? Also I have seen another hairstyle when Alicia Alonso RIP performed in the ballet Carmen where its in a low ponytail with Roses on one side can that too be an acceptional?
I loved it!! Could you teach the hairstyles from the ballets Le corsaire and Coppélia? Please I would love to learn more.❤️
Love this video!!
Do you have any advice how to do the french twist when you have really, really long hair?
Can hair be too long for a French twist? My hair goes down to my tailbone, so sometimes it pulls or feels a bit heavy, and French twists look so comfortable!
Maybe a double french if you can? Like two rolls.
I have a similar issue, my hair is very long and very thick, but doing the French twist as she does it here is still very possible! There is a bit of a learning curve, but super easy once you get the hang of it! ^^
@@Poppy- I'm not really sure what that would look like. Looks like it's time to Google!
@@Emimousiekin I've tried a few times today, and I think I just need to figure out where exactly to tuck it in. And how to angle the pins! I don't know if it's actually not secure or if it just doesn't feel secure, if that makes any sense!
@@elenaalejandra1372 I find starting from the middle and working your way out, especially with good large pins (think the bunhead brand hairpins) works pretty well. And tucking by folding up your hair works pretty well too (at least that's what works for me)
what a beautiful video! I just discovered you and I am new to ballet. :)
I think my hair is still a bit short for the bun, it's just above my collarbone. I love your hair colour, you look like a princess. I would like to know how often do you wash your hair? I've heard that 2nd day hair helps to have a better bun. I can't wait for my hair to be a bit longer so I can try these styles! :)
I'm wondering if by now Katie bought her hairnets yet? 😂
NOPE. Still have the wrong color ones haha
@@Tutugirlkem Then this is a friendly reminder that you don't have matching hairnets, so if you need them... 😂
Couldn't get the fench twist despite trying numerous times. The presenation of doing it I couldn't understand and wasn't clear to me and was done too fast. I need to look for another video because I really want to do it.
I remember using hairnets for my hair bun during 🩰
What are your tips for hiding bangs/fringe?
Thank you...I have very thin, fine hair and, though I'm not a dancer, could use some relatively simple daily 'dos. I never thought about hairpieces before but this could be the answer for professional work. How do you care for them?
When does Juliet dance with her hair down though..? I never watched that ballet but I also can’t recall seeing variations with her hair down. Even in Katie’s Juliet variation video it was all the way up.
So beautiful! Can you share your lipstick color?
High buns always look so weird on me. But I am looking for French twist tutorials for my performance
It’s probably much too late to comment on this video and get a response, but what kind/brand of hair extensions/hairpieces do you recommend? I have VERY thin hair (due to a hormonal disorder) and I’ve always wanted to have my hair in nice buns for class, which is just not possibly how my hair is now. I don’t have a TON of money, but I don’t want anything looking too fake or weird. Thank you!
Does anyone know what type of hair extensions they should buy for doing ballet buns? Like, what should I search for? I've never used them but want to try it!
💗💗💗
I have very long hair and just one of my braids is able to go all the way across my head for the Juliet hair style, should I only use one braid?
Do ballerinas necessarily have to have long hair, or can they go pixie-short?
this is great, but now I need a tutorial on how to attach the hair pieces!
