How to Have a Christian Worldview | Filtering Through A Woke Worldview | Ed Young
We live in a world that is constantly bombarding us with messages. Some are true. Some are false. We need a lens to interpret these messages so we can understand the world around us. A worldview is like a pair of sunglasses. For many Christians, the constant barrage of worldly ideologies has caused our Christian worldview to slip. Like a swimmer diving to the bottom of the pool to retrieve his sunglasses, we need to reclaim a Christian worldview that aligns with Scripture.
Much of the nation and media are infatuated with “being woke” right now. The concept of being woke has infiltrated every arena and deceived us into thinking “wokeism” is the right way to love our neighbor. Wokeism is the exact opposite. It is:
Contrary to the things of God at every turn
Satanic seduction in covert and overt ideology
When you step back and look at these ideologies, does anything stand out as concerning? All three sins (envy, pride, and pleasure) are weapons the enemy uses against us. Just look at the story of Adam and Eve. First, the serpent caused them to want something they couldn’t have (envy) by tempting them with the fruit. Then their hearts filled with pride upon hearing his deception that they could be like gods. Finally, they both took a bite of the fruit, searching for the pleasure it would bring. Deception is sneaky, so we must examine the world’s ideologies closely.
Philosophers of our day consider our society postmodern. In the former era of modernity, people looked outside of themselves for answers. Now, in a postmodern culture, they look inside of themselves. No matter where people look, the truth cannot be found apart from God. The enemy likes to take things that sound true and twist them. This is what’s so sad about wokeism. Wokeism has hijacked some beautiful things from Christianity, like compassion and biblical sexuality.
How Do We Develop a Biblical Worldview?
First, we must accept a God-centric worldview. A worldview is a comprehensive, panoramic perspective from a particular standpoint. And there are only two worldviews: following Jesus or turning away from the transcendence of God and looking within ourselves (called paganism).
Logical Consistency - The reasoning of the Scriptures is sound and reliable.
Imperial Adequacy - The historical evidence of the events in the Bible speaks for itself.
Existential Relevancy - It answers the questions that humans have always asked.
As the Bible predicted, though, the “wokers” of our day see everything upside down. What’s right is viewed as wrong, and what’s wrong is viewed as right. These ideologies can confuse and deceive us if we don’t keep Christ as our firm foundation. How do you achieve this? By having Christ as the foundation of your:
    Identity
The woke ideology says you should identify as a victim, basing your worth on how you’ve been wronged. But Galatians 4:7 says, “So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are His child, God has made you also an heir.” Our identity should be in Christ alone.
    Thoughts
Wokers take pride in their humanistic thought. The National Science Foundation says that we each have between 12,000-50,000 thoughts daily. 80% of them are negative, and 95% are recurring. So isn’t it important to pay attention to what’s on our minds? 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” Feelings seem to run everything these days. The world views emotions as the central driving factor of our lives. This is not how Jeremiah saw it. In verse nine of chapter seventeen, it says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked;” We know that feelings are merely a byproduct of our circumstances. We can express our emotions about each scenario, but that doesn’t change the truth. It is all too common these days that people live to glorify themselves. This is the opposite of what God asks. We were made to glorify Him! Galatians 2:20 emphasizes this, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
    1. Is My IDENTITY In Christ?
    2. Am I Taking THOUGHTS and Making Them Captive?
    3. Am I Living God’s TRUTH and Not My Own?
    4. Are My FEELINGS Subject to Truth?
    5. Am I LIVING Out God’s Greatness in All That I Do?

Woke means to identify racial injustices and hatred and stand against them. To be against Woke is to be a racist. Pure and simple

This guy is really good! First, he speaks facts. It’s cool how he can jump totally off subject then quickly tie it right back into his sermon.

An amazing message of TRUTH. Jesus is Truth & Love and we need to continue walking in his way. Stop being victims and start taking responsibility for our own lives instead of pointing fingers. The only finger pointing that we should be continuing to do is 👆to the ALMIGHTY!

Great message Ed. As a black pastor, I refuse to accept the “victim” status. Thanks for taking on the “wokeism agenda”. I appreciate You, Lisa, and your ministry.

I agree that some aspects of a movement move much farther in a direction that could be seen as problematic but labeling an entire group of people embracing change under an "ism" suffix seems disingenuous. Is Christianity not about fellowship and acceptance? That is what a lot of people are seeking, especially people in minority groups. Everyone wants to be happy in their own experience of life.

What does woke mean? In the 70's, the community I grew up in used to say,"STAY WOKE". That meant "STAY AWARE". Politicians have used it for their foolishness.

@EdYoung how do you define “impure” thoughts? I ask that question because I, as a married man, used to struggle greatly in this category, but now I’ve been freed from the kind of thoughts that once held me captive. That’s also not implying I’ll never have another, but the thoughts that I once struggled with are not a problem now and that’s a gift brother.

There’s a lot of good Black Christian pastors and other believers that would take offense of this sermon. This was the white message of the 1850s, Jim Crow, and segregation.

yeah, he took a lot of unrelated ideas and put them all under the wokeism label to dismiss them all at once. I would prefer a Biblical response to marxism, CRT, etc rather than just pushing against woke culture. I have a feeling this series isn't gonna do that lol. Also Freud doesn't have much influence on modern psychology, he is studied more as a relic than an inspiration.

The term woke was hijacked. If people would be intellectually honest they might as well throw in Christian Nationalism into the definition. No pastor would dare touch that. That’s one of the biggest threats to Christianity. There’s so much evil there.

Why don’t you actually talk to someone who’s “woke” instead of making things up? Are you scared?

Just know that 100 yrs ago Christians knew that because of Christ to stay Out of politics and because someone doesn't think or feel.the same as you,,,,,,,,,, that's the problem with you today and most of all you forget to follow Christ your following your version of God so please stop calling yourself a Christian ,,, you know the person that saved you from Sin....
