Charlie Vickers excitement while speaking of Sauron reminds me of Halbrand’s enthusiasm while discussing metals & ores with Crlebrimbor 😂
That's Sauron for you !
Now if only any of the cast or writers would actually read one of the books
Imagine being an actor and getting that part, must be amazing
Plus that's Sauron in his attractive form. A perfect mix of charisma and darkness/ edgyness. Must be so fun for an actor.
Sauron is one of the best villain in the history of story telling
@@Rdude4444 I guess you haven't read, ironically, how much they did
@@dutchkel well it’s hard to tell by watching the show
I love that Charlie is Aussie in real life because that means Sauron is intentionally a Yorkshire lad 😂
The way his entire demeanour changes in a second looking down at the archive & then looking up to say, “I told you I got it from a dead man!” and it’s just pure evil from there on.. he didn’t shapeshift to any gruesome animal.. but just with the shift in the demeanour, one could see evil brewing in him! Only an Amazing actor can!
The dialogue in this show makes me cringe. And judging by your previous similar comments you aren’t real.
Sauron is so good that I almost believed him. As if there is good in him and that he isn’t doing anything wrong or done anything wrong. Truly evil and a manipulator. Very impressed with Sauron.
when will this special be available on prime?
Agreed! It was masterful, the change that came over him, loved it! Love how they are fleshing out this character!
@@Rdude4444 Then I'll echo everything that "person" (in your estimation) just said. I *loved* the scene, and the series in general. I called that Halbrand was almost certainly Sauron very early, because I've literally read all. the. Tolkein. books. The portrayal of Sauron was beautiful imo: graceful, brilliant, skilled, gorgeous, and fucked up. And they dropped just enough hints to make it believable, while not making it necessary until the last episode. Not every dialogue line is well-written, e.g. Harfoots detract so far imo, no need for an istar yet imo. But come on man, the elves as arrogant asshats? That is literally the Silmarillion: look at Feanor in defiance of the Valar. iirc they could have saved the trees if Faenor had given up the silmarils, but his ass was too selfish. The elves are tragic lesson in how immortality is weakness.
Charlie stole the entire season for me
Charlie is revealed to be the main star of Season 2 as Sauron so it is good he stole the entire first season.
Second Age is Sauron's story so it is good Sauron takes the lead.
I'm annoyed the producers cast a good actor for Sauron, and a bad actor for Galadriel. Like Vickers proves they know how to cast good actors, but they simply chose not to for Galadriel, or just didn't care.
He is the main character 😂
Really impressive on Charlie Vickers' part to know so much of the original Tolkien lore behind Sauron. In particular he mentions Sauron kneeling before Eonwë, character that appears IIRC in a small paragraph in Silmarillion, noted to be the leader of the hosts of Valinor that cast down the Darkness in the final battle of the First Age. This level of background knowledge, essentially for an actor who may not be an independent fan of the writings, is really something!
The Silmarillion though is not a big book, so it wouldn't take long to read it and understand the lore of the First Age. The same goes for the appendices in the LOTR. Agree though Charlie Vickers has a strong grip on the mythology.
Charlie made Sauron to cheer for.
Putting flesh on the bones, so to speak.
This Sauron has already better development than the all lord of the rings trilogy
This whole show is to gag for if you have any love for Tolkien.
Basically Thanos.
@@ricardomadleno564 ummmmmm what
Honestly, the way Charlie pronounces "Sauron" is so damn sexy.
Halbrand is one of the best performed characters. Charlie nailed every scene given the duality of the character he had to play. Looking forward to season 2, I just hope they can do it a lot quicker than 2 years.
I think, they’ll come out with S2 by the end of next year that is 2023.
@@SimV239 that's still a bit slow...

@@ds1868 ok :)
Charlie was phenomenal as Halbrand/Sauron. He really flawlessly portrayed not just a one-dimensional evil dark lord but a being with real depth & dimension. He shows that Halbrand really believes in his plight & that he isn’t just a baddie but actually might even teeter on not only being repentant & redeemable but someone who could swing to the light. He garners a ton of sympathy as he shows that there is goodness & light within his darkness. Charlie should rock that Halbrand long hair as he carries it well. I was really impressed with Charlie’s rendition of Halbrand & was similarly blown away by Joseph Mawle as Adar & Owain Arthur as Prince Durin IV. They all crushed it but as far as being the most colorful character, Durin IV took the crown hands down as Owain Arthur was just born to play the role.
Gorgeous actor, excellent cast
He did walk that line and his acting is so subtle.
He is my favorite character and actor in the show
The type of actor who makes you want to become an actor
As much as I disliked how this season went - I have to say Charlie played the part he was given exceptionally well. One of the highlights on the show, IMO
When someone says She Hulk is bad or Galadriel is bad its almost never to do with the actual actress. When the directions is lacking and the script is poor there's not much an actor or actress can do. Sometimes they can't even quit.
Charlie Vickers. Outstanding actor. Bravo! 👏
@Tharaki king🤴 No, I love him too because he is interesting, scary, confusing...and of course...he's hot! 😂
He's a great villain because the best villains have something tragic or compelling about them-- something that makes us wish they would come back to the light...even though we know we are kidding ourselves.
Thanks!🙂
@@LunaWolf29 That's the main point about Sauron that Tolkien emphasised in his writings. Sauron was not completely evil and approached everything in a totally different way to Morgoth. As Tolkien reminds us, nothing is evil in the beginning.

True Tolkien fan, beatiful person. Not a casual hater fan, he is the best for enjoying so much studying Sauron.
Full respect to Charlie Vickers… He is really great actor who portrayed Sauron in an outstanding and relatable way… Regards🇶🇦
I knew Charlie Vickers had it in him to pull it off, but I was still floored by just how much! Morfydd has been brilliant all season as well.
I'm glad they talked about the heart-warming friendships like the ones between Elrond and Durin and Poppy and Nori and the wizard. All the various relationships across the peoples of Middle-Earth were my favourite part of Tolkien's writing, and so I feel that the writers really understood the heart of the books by focusing on that in the show. Excited to see Rhun and perhaps more wizards, to learn more about Sauron in S2, and for more storylines to crossover!
What are you smoking dude Charlie did good but Morfydd wass awful all season.
Morfydd was intentional because the viewer needed to see an obvious evolution from pride to wisdom. And its obvious because the show is PG 13, the kids have to enjoy the show too. Its very mad the thing with the adults that they only believe the world revolves around them.
I'm usually pretty good at detecting sarcasm in a post but yours left me puzzled.
Charlie Vickers is the star here but I would like to highlight how Bear McCreary, the composer of the OST looks so passionate about what he did (24:35)! Thumbs up for him! The music in the show is amazing!
Yes it is. Although the writing and pacing suck big time, the score is perfect!
Whatever was wrong withnthe show, it certainly was not Halbrand... he is very different from Annatar in the books , or what i would have imagined him But i genuinely did like Halbrand, he was one of the things i,liked best in the show...
The actors who played Halbrand and Galadriel were amazing. I really hope we learn how and why and what Halbrand was doing on the raft. And also what did Elrond see in Galadriel’s future if she didn’t go to Valinor?
So... Galadrial isn't going to tell the others about Sauron even though that has been her obsession for centuries?
Ofc not it would require logic in writing but we all know what showrunners think of that
Or at least she could’ve pursued him just having him leave him freely doesn’t make any sense
Of course a lot of things in the shower don’t make sense.
The entire build up the sauron reveal doesn’t really make sense at multiple points in the series he seems like he’s just a regular human he does not seem to have the ability or powers of sauron
In fact it’s strongly implied that he is not even though little hints that he is but they don’t really add up in a way that’s logical
@@user-jv4wu4kt1y You need to read the books. Sauron has been forgiven by the Valar at the end of the First Age and he has vowed to repent of his ways. As one of the most powerful of the Maiar he is able to take any form and as Tolkien says in the Second Age he took a very affable and friendly form that was very amenable in company. The Rings Mythology is much more complicated than your comment suggests. The pagan Anglo Saxon and Nordic mythology on which the Rings Mythology is based predates most religions today. Professor Tolkien was Professor of Anglo Saxon and Nordic studies at the University of Oxford.
Charlie Vickers came in CLUTCH! Hope to see him in other projects now. He was the highlight in the finale. And glad he said that he IS using Galadriel and it isnt romantic, but an opportunist. Sadly, I was hoping he has interviews with Morfyd on this one, just to see her reaction too.
Anyway, to Amazon, hope you guys fix some of the glaring problems. But if Sauron will have the shared focus next season then that seems to be in the right direction.
Haha. Love that comment “Charlie came in CLUTCH!”
glad too they never used their relationship in a "romantic" light, Charlie Vickers recently talked in an interview how Sauron wasn't interested in her that way and how as elves mate for life (she is already married) it would have been pointless anyway.
@@avlisdreams3427 Can't put it past these showrunners
Charlie is a good actor. but it's a shame he didn't have better writer behind him.
I don't know, his quote about existing before the first silence was broken was fire.
Sometimes I think idiots are being paid to just hate on something that is being gifted to them, like spoiled children
At least his character had way better writing than Galadriel.
Halbrand: "Why do you keep fighting?"
Galadriel: "Because I can't stop."
Like bruh.
Charlie said 5 SEASON?!?!? 😍😍😍😍
Why was Galadriel's entire arc finding and destroying Sauron and when she did, she let him go, and then didn't tell anyone who he was? Does she not care about her brother and husband anymore? Where is the tempest she was hissing about? Adar killed him. I am sure a legion of Elves could have tracked him down and killed him. He literally just left and no one did anything. Why? So season 2 could happen?
Because in a way Galadriel was responsible in bringing him back.. not only that, she even pitched for war to save southlands in alliance with Numenor with the very enemy by her side that they were going to war against. She was responsible for Numenor’s loss & Southlands turning into ashes. The trust is broken & beyond repair!
@@SimV239 so she decided to stick her head in the sand and ignore Sauron? That should make her more furious that she was tricked. The guy responsible for her husband and brother's death is right there. No way after her entire life is finding him she let's him go. That makes no sense. You can't establish her character as 100% focus on finding Sauron at the exclusion of anyone else and then change that motivation in one second. Bad writing to force season 2 to happen.
The writing is laughable
Yeah the writing is not good but at least the acting or at least Charlie Vickers playing Sauron is really good and also other actors as well

The reason they still did it without the rights wasn't because they were such big fans of tolkien and loved the lore.
The origin of this show is purely corporate greed.
It’s obviously a labor of love, whenever you do watch it you’ll notice that. I’m one of those people who knows the appendices forward and back. It’s not perfect - they get more skilled as the season goes on- but it was definitely made with a lot of love and care.
@@ColbyPurcell the execution was done with passion. But from the scenes I saw they are lacking some writing skills but still nicely done.
As many others I won't watch the show because of the missing rights and smell of corporate greed.
@@philipr.3509 I’m not sure what spending billions to create something on which they surely won’t get those billions back is corporate greed but maybe I’m missing something - and I mean that honestly. I’m not saying Amazon isn’t a greedy corporation (as all publicly traded corporations are by unfortunate design) but this project didn’t have to happen and Amazon would probably have more money on the bottom line if they hadn’t done it - even if it was wildly successful. As far as the rights - that’s all they could get. Everything else belongs to some other (necessarily greedy) corporations that will not be making a billion $ labor of love TV show with it - they’ll be making games and other forms of entertainment and merchandise (not saying that’s better or worse, it’s just how it is).
Honestly actors in rings of power are all good. Problems are mostly in dialogue and storyline. Hope that season two fix the problems in season one.

If they are going by Tolkiens lore and the stranger is the first to arrive of the Istari then he’s either Saruman or one of the blue wizards. Being a blue wizard would go with the fact the stranger wants to travel east which is where the 2 blues went but the scene with the moths and what he says about when in doubt always follow your nose is more aligned with Gandalf. Either way I’ve really liked this series, I literally only got Amazon prime to watch it. I think they’ve done a brilliant job and all the cast are brilliant
We also don't know that the stranger is the only Istari out there. He's the first one that we the audience have met but that doesn't mean there can't be others who have been there longer who met might encounter later
It would be really cool to finally get more interpretation/ information on the blue wizards though
For me, the music tells me his fate. His song sounds like a tragedy. The melody of losing someone who was good. So Saruman sounds conceivable. I believed he was Sauron when they first hinted it for that same reason.
Not a huge fan of the show but I loved Vicker’s thrilling performance
I really love the ring poem song. Thanks Bear and Fiona!

Se2 the 7 Dwarves, se3 the 9 Men, se4 the 1 ring, se5 the war of the last alliance.
Yesterday, I searched the internet and tried to find review of this series that was objectively good where the reviewer didn't try to make excuses for the series by saying things like "the show is still trying to find its feet" etc. I couldn't find one. Every positive review I read, and I read hundreds, made it a point to make an excuse for the show in their "positive" review. I wonder how much of that billion dollars went to the big critics to write good reviews?
38% viewer ratings on Rotten Tomatoes compared to an 82% critic score. That's all you need to know.
I like the show very much. I don't care about Rotten tomatoes score. 🤷
I think Amazon should have filmed 2 seasons before they brought the first one out. Two years is a long time to wait for another season. Peoples interest will wane waiting for another show. In the event that two seasons were filmed at the same time the second one could be brought out say 6 months after the first was finished. (Just saying)
On the flip side I think they'll take on the critism and we'll see improvements in S2 (e.g. like pacing) that wouldn't happen if they filmed back to back
There's no real interest at this point. Just people bashing this disaster.
I think we'll see the writing, pacing and acting get better over the seasons, i get why they only did one season so far, to learn from mistakes and see what the fans want and how the show should go in the future. They've already said they know the exact scene they want to end the whole 5seasons on, so fingers crossed. I absolutely loved this show.

Ps.
So sad to see how people ignore all the greatness under "hair length and following the origins" isn that what professor called orkish behavior in his letters.

Can any character written as being so aggressively ignorant as this bizarro Galadriel possibly be "good" in any sense?
Obviously they did not really set up the big Sauron reveal correctly but Charlie Vickers is a great actor but much of the work prior to the moment where he reveals he is Sauron in the build up to that point does not make a lot of sense you have pointed out things that show all the problems that are involved with the story and how stubbornly prideful she was in idiomatic I didn’t really like her character

Question. Did Sauron plan to meet Galadriel on the raft in the middle of an ocean? @@AkiTerry Maybe real people playing 2nd age Middle Earth people is more interesting than watching Cartoon caricatures being described by monotonous dialogs? The series popularity is not limited to Amazon.
With Sauron revealed as Halbrand, we’re seeing him fall further into darkness. We see a small glimpse of that when Sauron/Halbrand was screaming at Galadriel, with his pupils turning into slits (a visual cue of the Eye Of Sauron), darkened veins appearing on his skin, and his teeth becoming jagged and demonic. By the time of the War Of The Last Alliance, he lost his ability to take fair shape. So, by the end of the series, he’ll be the fully realized Dark Lord that we know from the trilogy, and seeing that evolution is gonna be interesting to see. Sauron will go from Halbrand, to Annatar, to a form of malice and hatred made flesh concealed under his iconic armor.
Except Amazon doesn’t have the rights to the name “Annatar,” therefore they can’t legally use that title, and by extension that character. Which is why they came up with hiding him in plain sight as new character Halbrand, which was so painfully obvious from the very beginning that it’s laughable.
@@rogermoreno1152 yeah. That’s unfortunate. But, at least we’re seeing him slowly become the Dark Lord that we know from the trilogy.

But they choose not to use him. And now, after season 1, and the forging of the Elves' Rings first (....?...), it would be ridiculous to re-introduce him as Annatar in Season 2.

I'm thinking many will come around to it once all the bruhaha surrounding the launch subsides. It made me think of the film The Name of the Rose, which called itself a "palimpsest" of Eco's book. ROP is a palimpsest as well.
When is the season 2 release?
I do find a bit weird that a Maiar like Sauron would behave in this way. I mean he’s not as powerful as he was with Morgoth but he should be able to do as he please. Seeing him around humans and needing them is a bit too much. It takes away from the “dark lord” lore.
You have to remember Amazon's fanfiction is going its own route story wise and doesn't care much about Tolkien's writings
How can Sauron the Deceiver be a master deceiver and a master of cunning if he doesn't walk among the people he wants to deceive, acting as if he's one of them? The lore states that he took many forms, passing himself as a man, a werewolf, a serpent, a vampire, and an elf-like being at some point. As for him "needing them", did he? Or did it just appear that way? Perhaps you, as a viewer, were deceived by him as much as the characters were. He's a fallen Maiar, he doesn't really *need* anyone. If Sauron appears to need people, it's only because he's decided it suits his purposes for people to believe he needs them. That's what makes him "Sauron the Deceiver".
@@JetpackAndScissors why didn't he killed Galadriel before moving to Mordor knowing she's one of her worst enemies? He had her in his hands and she was completely defenseless... Did Sauron even manage to deceive himself, or is he just a little stupid in Amazon's show ?
@@deceiver444 he did almost kill her, just not with a violent physical attack. He showed her a vision in which she was drowning in the Sundering Seas, turns out she was actually unconscious in the stream they'd been standing by. If Elrond hadn't found her, she could have easily drowned.
@@JetpackAndScissors he could have simply killed her physically while she was under his spell. As simple as that. He spared her life though, he must be a nice guy after all. But if he truly is the evil dark lord, then he's also truly stupid here.
Charlie did a great job in a talentless show. Great work dude. Standing out amongst the crowd. Second to Adar.
Why use your nose to go east? Gandalf used his nose in moria because it was dank in there and to get out he thought it was wise to follow the least stinky road, which makes sense. But here it's so shoehorned in... it confused me. Please explain..
magic probably. he sensed a sweet smell the way they should go. kinda dumb but kinda cute ngl
Amazon you had one job !
Yo, I am so invested in Istar's story. Galadriel not so much.
14:05 - Oh my God 🙏😂He gave out the *Black Rider* or one of the Nazguls.
Well, I gotta say, I’m really glad they cast a Cirdan now, I just hope they give him the space in screen that such character deserves, a space that clearly has not being given in past adaptations
But do we know who exactly the wizard is? Some say Gandalf but I am not sure
When the second starts to records as series And how long we'll wait to see season 2?
They have already begin
TIL Charlie Vickers knows his Tolkein, while the show runners apparently don't? Its already explained why Galadriel knows Sauron's mind about the elves; because he spent hundreds of years as Annatar, and hung around Galadriel during that time. Given her ability to see into someone's heart, she immediately distrusted him.
Payne's idea of a "what if" ignores already established lore. They really should just state this is an "alternate timeline" as a way of working around lore breaking. In fact that would give them much more freedom and they could create some interesting scenarios that way without fan backlash.
Fingers crossed for Season 2.
It needs a divine intervention for that to happen.
I think season 2 will be cancelled.
Still the same writers, so no hope left
@@frankcouper9377 , season 3 or 4. They won't get to 5 for sure..
Season 2 is sadly already in production.
I'll never understand the hate.
I want to see more of Charlie Vickers in shows ❤ maybe HBO
For God sake...they make us to love Sauron! 🙈🤣
the reflection of "Sauron and Galadriel" as king and queen was epic!!
You know that is a copy of the book
He didn’t fear her at all. She saw through his deception and therefore was a massive obstacle in his plan. There is nothing she could’ve done to stop him otherwise though and that’s clear because the Elves would’ve been utterly defeated without the numenoreans turning up.
He has no match. He is an former Angel. His power bigger than any creature of Middle Earth
@@mirceadacialorantbrescia4340 He was like that in the first age but not right now.
If anywhere you could apply the old 'Epic fail', it would be for this show.
I think the actors for this series generally did a good job. The faults of the series are largely on the writers and perhaps by extension the producers, corporate producers can have a bad habit of meddling heavily with the creative process. Not sure if that's what happened here but I think it probably was the case.
If there were not deep feelings about this world there would be less hate as well as less love. So, I guess the huge angry gulf is actually indicative of a good thing that we already knew; Tolkien's works are beloved.
I liked it. I did not love it. I did not hate it. I liked it.
There were moments I adored, and others that fell flat for me. Overall, I wish they had either not tried to fool the audience at all about Sauron's identity and leaned into making he and Galadriel more sympathetic, or been a lot more layered and subtle about it. What exists is fine, and again, I enjoyed watching it. But it was not be best TV I have seen, not even the best I have seen this month.
The actors made up for quite a bit where the dialogue/situations felt less than stellar. Production wise, this is undeniably gorgeous! Clearly a lot of love went into this process, and for that I want to give respect where it is due.
This felt like Tolkien's world to me, and for that I am most grateful. It is a world I love returning to. So well done there.
Anyway, this interview was fun to watch!
If the writing of the whole show had been on par with the Khazad Dum storyline then this show would not be as heavily criticized as it is. Hopefully the writing of season 2 will live up to the production quality.
Either you love or hate this show
I know you won't listen to criticism BUT I have loved Tolkien since being a nerdy, autistic, CHILD not teen CHILD. I have all his collected works. It was very much tied to the Catholic arc of sin, mercy, redemption, and forgiveness. It inspired people because of beautiful concepts like pity, mercy, and the power of kindness. Galadriel was based off the Virgin Mary in many ways. You have made me cheer on Sauron, want HIS redemption. The actor is more likeable than Galadriel. She's mean, horrible, and hypocritical. I would rather be in Sauron's company than hers. When he TRIED to get her help to be good she shows no mercy and rejects him. This is not Tolkien. I don't know what this is. And before I hear his opinion on orcs--Tolkien said he didn't think it probable that they change but that it was always possible. I want this Sauron to change and I want MY Galadriel back. Not this person and you can't FIX this person because you excluded everything she did that was good, decent, and kind in his works up until now.
I do think the stranger gandalf/saruman or whoever would make a marvellous Dr Who, just saying! :)
Only women or POC are allowed to play Dr Who now
Question for the show runners.... when are you going to read the books? There is a first time for everything.
How about you do YOUR homework and find out that Amazon doesn't have the rights to any of the books? Just the universe and just the second age
@@GalopaWXY everybody knows about the fact they don't have the rights both legally and by lack of talent. That doesn't mean they can't learn how to write from the source material. If they had done THEIR homework they would know about and incorporate the Tolkien's themes and in the story, not just a bunch of plot points from the Peter Jackson's movies rehashed into a sub-par plot. Where is the theme of even if the worst situation there's always hope, where is the theme of doing the right things, being humble, being a good person and playing your role in the divine providence? There is nothing of the sort because they didn't do their HOMEWORK. Reading wikipedia is not reading the books.
I love this sauron... it will mature like fine wine 🍷... need season 2 please 🙏 🙂 amazon...😏 ada this middle-earth helps me understand my world 🌎 better.. to be a better human... my autism etc😏
Very disappointed with the dialogue and the writing in Season 1. However, I am still hopeful that next few seasons will get better.
After watching Sauron as the Multiple Forms within Fire - a kind of formlessness in form ......... *WOW !* My God ! ...... that was exhilarating to see a Dark Lord in Human Form !
yeah but still a bit underwhelming. This is not the same guy who you see at the start of PJ movies.
@@danielschoch4881 the guy who reached with his finger that had his one weakness towards a dude with a sword? Bro I'd get if your were underwhelmed compared to the books but PJ Sauron doesn't have that much personality imo. Sauron in those films feels more like a precense.
@@joshuawalters7520 Sauron despite of this was a pure evil presence in the films. He needed to be beaten somehow and was too arrogant. Even when he battled Galadriel. Here he appears like a human psycho. If you are satisfied with that then OK. He is afloat on the sea and wants to get a job and eats in a restaurant. haha. But still the best in the whole show.
