The problem with this test isn't about the pianos, it's the acoustics of the room and also the basic limitation of a microphone that can't capture the full range of the sound they make. A large concert piano like the D is meant to throw lots of sound in a large space. It's not going to sound hugely different in a small room, but you put the smaller pianos up against it in a real concert hall and listen to them from far away, especially with an orchestra playing, and you'll notice a huge difference, because you would not hear a smaller piano very well over the other instruments in a concert hall.
Yes, but they also have different tones so It's fun to play with like in the studio, the most expensive isn't always the most interesting tho ❤
And not to mention the speaker that you play it back on. If you're using a good quality earbuds versus just your phones speaker. But there's no way to know how they tuned the original recording, mic placement, location of the pians, it's a very poor example of what was heard.
There's good micro from Sony to record piano. Someone recorded the 108 key piano with those microphone and it's really good, but he surely wasn't using something like this
Anyone else watching this on the phone and be like: "yeah they all sound the same"
@@AnihalasNo it’s not lmao the first two sounded similar but the third one definitely sounded nicer
I like that he plays La Campanella while comparing different models like this piece is nothing sort of difficult
The intro is definitely the easiest part but yeah! He plays a difficult piece!
The upper register gets better in sound as the price increases.🎹🎼
It’s funny because you actually hear the most difference in the bass notes. La Campanella is probably the worst choice to demo the differences. The model D is 9 ft long but the extra length is only needed down low. String length on that top Eb is likely the same on all of them.
That is what I thought I could hear as well. The first one, the high notes were warm and clear but not very powerful. The middle one seemed very chirpy and loud but not as pleasant. Third was warm and perfect while being powerful. ...😂but I could just be making it up I have no idea what I'm supposed to listen for.
@@BFHPET if you’re in an apartment, yes. Even my Model M closed and covered is enough to wake up a light sleeper in the next room over.
If you’re in a detached single family home, I wouldn’t worry. The neighbors have never complained about Chopin at 4am.
@@LogicalQ its only 1 neighbour but i still wish to play whitout someone could listen. I saw 1 dude isolated 1 room in hes arpartment and he could play a steinway b whitout bother anyone. But it was the room in a room solution
I’ve played a Steinway once back at the conservatory, I had a (good) vertical Yamaha at home for practice but that Steinway feeling stayed under my fingers all day, like an exquisite dish you still think of hours later or a persistent perfume
Model D almost screaming chorus and a dash a of reverb....like its just unnaturally amazing.
I always say to own a Steinway is a privilege. The models are all amazing pianos.
Even I have to say I cannot see enough of a difference to justify the 10x price tag and I'm a professional pianist. That's definitely too much money imo. (It does look absolute stunning tho)
Edit: I forgot about how the feel changes pianos. I'm sure th last one is much more satisfying to play
@@pablogomez8236 its possible. i really think its largely to show off and it is louder/fills the room better.
I don't think many professional pianists would be able to afford a 180k piano, but for concert halls, you are probably going to need a 9 foot concert grand piano over the (around) 5 foot grands pianos.
@@commenter1430 yes that is true I forgot about large scale concerts. But yes, only billionaires squander that much xD
The first one sounds great!
That model B needs some voicing in the middle of the Piano , it’s very worn
Evidently pianos are like fine wines, you must be a connoisseur to tell the differences.
I love the first because of warmth
You did us musicians dirty not ending the phrase like that 😭
Now do a fazioli f308. Definitely more expensive than a steinway. A piano dealer near me has one so I luckily have gotten the opportunity to play on it. Absolutely immaculate timbre and perfect action.
I ll take them all!! I'm a Yamaha fan, but I've played on a lot of Steinways ad well, they sound absolutely amazing!
Model D
I can't tell the difference either, but if I had to pick the best sounding one, I'd pick the middle priced one. That's encouraging!
You killed it bro.. .
3rd one is the beast of beasts. Hits your chest when you lower music stand and rumble low end with damper up. Or just punch the hell outta a huge chord and 10th or octave. It thumps you for real. They are amazing
I just checked out a B. They're going for $133k. Recheck the prices, but great playing regardless of which piano you choose.
Even the fact that you’re playing la campanella it’s already difficult 😭✨
Not really, much harder Liszt pieces then it. Chasse-neige, Mazeppa or any other transcendental etude. Mephisto waltzes too
He’s half-assing it because when jump the second time it’s meant to be e flat to the still high e flat.😊
I cant tell the difference
Last one was definitely very soft on the high pitched noises. I know nothing about piano, but I do know when one sounds good 😅😂
model b is definitely the best pianos out there it is 6’11 211 cm and it is known as the perfect piano
Gonna have to pull of a bank robbery for one of these bad boys. Why can’t we live in a world in which beautiful pianos like this just fall out of the sky
The last one was THE best
There is so much more to playing a piano than just the sound. And comparing it over a phone I would want to be actually in the store with a pianos as close to each other as possible.
The first one sounded warmer and rounder tho💞
The first one sounded the best!
Can't tell which one's the best
how did he learn piano man? he is very good!
I have a 1927 Steinway Model L at home. I can’t hardly tell a difference in this video.
They all sound nice
Geez, I think the 50,000 sounds the best!
Honestly I like the tone of the first one. Just cause something is more expressive doesn’t mean it’s better!
2nd one sound good too
i didnt even notice that it was looping T_T
Beyond how they sound over the internet is how they FEEL to the player. Actions vary.
The sound is more a question of personal taste than money
Didn’t realize the model d has gone up in value so much … almost double 🎉🎉
First one sounded better. Warm and round tones.
We have the Model O at my high school
His brothers are really talented lotta years on the piano
Can't tell the difference 😁
Música clássica e erudita são uma beleza
Look, you will be inspired to practice more on the more expensive piano (just like the more expensive gym membership results in a healthier you).
Your playing makes the cheapest one like on the level of the expensives. 😊😍
Lang Lang's show stopper!!!
I'd bet if you took all of them to a stage at a huge venue they would all be listened to through a sound system comprised for many microphones, sound processors, amplifiers and various speaker systems. Add to that the room presence and other ambient noise, sit in the back row and then try to tell the difference blindfolded.
I think the first one shounds like the second and third one
I like the tone of the first one though
They all sound like pianos to me
Is there even a reason why these are expensive?
They’re made really well, but tbh, at a similar price point, you’re way better off either buying a Shigeru Kawai or a Bösendorfer. At this point, Steinways are like the Lexus or Audi of pianos - they’re quality and they’ll do a great job at getting a job done, but you know better is out there.
mans is so handsome
I hear a $150,000 sound difference
CZcams compression probably can't begin to convey how differently the model d projects. Its a concert instrument meant to compete for attention with a full orchestra, not a grand meant for a living room.
I closed my eyes and listened with Bose noise cancelling head phones and they all sound the same.
I like the 2nd one
I liked the sound of 1 or 3 best.
Bravo Andy bravo
B for Bad? Sounded shrieky, yet muted.
The 200k was amazing
Of course is the D-174😎
The cheaper first 2's piano hammer can be fluffed up a bit, then it should sound like the $189k one. 😅
Просто МАЕСТРО.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I wouldn’t use Campanella to tell me about a piano. There aren’t enough bass notes. That’s where the biggest difference will show in the various sizes. The opening of the Grieg Concerto uses all registers, including all the way down to the lowest A. Campanella does tell you about action, however. Pianos sound more similar in the highest registers and the most different in the lowest. Just saying.
This looks like Meridian Music. Am I correct? Fun video.
Model B was the most resounding to me.
it takes a year to build and completone of them❤❤❤❤
They still sound the same to me. It’s the player, I think. Whatever piano you use, you still play beautifully
These are more than cars !!¡
D sound great
model o is pretty nice ;D
Interesting… maybe it’s the room or positioning of the mic but the pianos sounded more muted as the price went up.
I'm a drummer but I just started playing piano and I couldn't tell the difference between any of them
The model B sound the best for the money imho.
Differences seem subtle to me - must be due to Steinway quality.
I'd bet he could make even my old "beater" piano sound good. (If it was tuned!)🎶🎵🎶
Priced Bs last year at 137k. The B here has to be used because of the matte finish and older style fall board.
Honestly I liked the first one best, at least for that style of mysic
I prefer the Model B. I spent 4 years at university practicing on one for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
How many elephants did they kill for the last one?
Я слышу дичайший звон за 189к
Tbf I liked the first one the most.
I'm definitely ready for the $189k model. Please send contact info for shipping logistics
All sound the same minus the ring from the $50k high note at times. Seems they should tune it. Amazing playing btw!!
My ears just cant tell the difference
No way it's a glorious model O😂
What is your opinion on best to play on?
I can’t tell the difference, all the sound came from my phone speaker.
$24k - $200k piano comparison using a $15 mic. Lol
How does he remember all those notes without paper??? Amazing!!!
Se davvero vuoi suonare un qualsiasi brano, "devi" conoscerlo a memoria, altrimenti quel che suoni diventa un "lèggere" stèrile privo di personalità.
È la stessa cosa che per i ballerini e gli attori di teatro.
@@defiantprobe I like that! My son is 6 years old and started playing 6 months ago. He is really good at memorizing and “improving” the few songs he has learned.. although nothing on this level. He likes to add his own touch and while we like to encourage his creativity, we remind him to stick to the sheet music as he’s learning.
Memorizing even a 15-minute piece should not be difficult at all because of muscle memory.
The difference is the price.
Fabulous playing !
I remember I went to play a Steinway piano in NYC. The salesman directed me to a concert grand. I went to play it and the key got stuck. The salesman was mortified. He quickly brought me to another piano. I personally don’t like the touch of a Steinway piano.
First one had the warmest tone. Third one was best of both worlds
I cant even tell the difference between either
U just lost it 😅 u r hearing things... 3rd one has that enveloping sound, it is unbeatable, never heard nothing as good as that, i know very well the model. I played in it already.
First one is definitely warmer
Fazioli is way much better, and cheaper as well
