      @@mariofpv I know I'm just a random youtuber, but I think it would be interesting for an apples and pears sort of side by side comparison with hdzero or dji for specs or quality. I really am interested in this cause it seems like you're up there in the right area with the heavyweights but when I look online the info is quite scarce. You're pulling 3MP video low-medium range in an fpv format. That's really quite an amazing feat. I would defo be interested for somebody knowledgable to break it down. What do you think? I'd donate to that too.

    It was my birthday, I've just spent 170$ on FC, ESC, frame, motors, props, receiver trying to build my first drone for medium-long range. I have left like

    This is amazing, I'd love to try this out sometime soon!
    Friendly advice... I think CZcams's compression is have a negative affect on your flight footage. I found if you upscale your videos to 1440p (or higher) the compressions algorithm for CZcams is better and doesn't artifact in the same way it does at 1080p.

    Mario, this just keeps getting better and better. Well done once again! Could you give us more info on the latency on the system? Is it low enough to freestyle with?

      The lowest possible latency is ~35ms and it is absolutely fine for freestyle. Unfortunately I am not a pro freestyle pilot and I am too busy with testing and development. I also have a day job, lol. So yeah I can’t feel any latency just like I couldn’t feel latency of the DJI FPV system that I already have. The fpv racers would probably feel the latency but their brains work in much faster Hz I guess.😁

      @an_R_key 720p 120fps 4Mbps h265 cbr on the camera side and Orange Pi 5 with 144Hz monitor on the Ground Station. You need fast decoder to achieve low latency. The camera is only a piece of the puzzle, always remember that. We are offering that one key piece of that puzzle but you will also need the rest to complete it. Makes sense?😊

      We are testing lightweight heatsink because at max output power it gets REALLY hot and it will burn eventually. If you take off fast after plug the battery it’s fine. But if you stay for a few minutes waiting for GPS loc for example the power amplifier will burn in max output power. We’ll see. Cheers mate!😊🍻

      @@mariofpv That is true, happy to hear that this is already in the works. I think we all know 25mW or pit mode in good old analogue VTXs that resolved this issue, realistically though the pilot doesn't need to blast 1W right from the start. It's also not smart way of using battery, only at longer distances (>1km) this is required perhaps.

      @@haschkatze8372 the datasheet says it can input 1080p120 hdmi , output upto 8k60 h264 video decoding, and has display port 1.3 ... i am waiting to see if there are any additional limitations on top of this .. i know for sure it does 4k60.

    Hi Mario, This is great work ! What type of Antenna setup you have on your quad and on your goggle? I don't see any omni antenna on your quad. What would be a preferred polarization for this system?

      I used cheap dipole antennas but of course I will upgrade them to lollipop LHCP. I will also upgrade my simple antennas on the VRX and add a second WiFi adapter for more bitrate. Lots of room for improvement. Cheers mate!😊🍻

    Im so impressed with what you've done, is it possible the board to received video input from other camera like old analog fpv camera with output hdmi/rca ?

      We are using specific sensors and we have modified the drivers of those sensors as well in order to work with OpenIPC standards. Therefore old analog cameras will not work. You can find the source code on our GitHub to learn more technical information. Cheers mate!😊🍻

    its an interesting proyect, i always find the image a bit blurry, like it lakes bitrate or so, but still acceptable. Does it use h265 or how its encoded the image?

      Yes it supports h265. Currently we are doing the testings in low bitrate (4Mbps) but we can reach up to 52Mbps total bitrate! We will get to that in future videos. One thing at a time. Cheers mate!😊🍻

    This looks really nice. I like the weight. So it gets digital quality and it's about 23 grams lighter than the DJI 03 air unit system? I had a few questions. I guess you need a radio receiver? Also what goggles will work with it? And does it have any over heating issues? Like how long can it sit before you need to take off? And will it shut off if it over heats?

      Any goggles with HDMI IN port.
      I have already posted a VRX video tutorial.
      No overheating issues while flying.
      On the bench always use a fan.
      I tested it for 2 minutes and it got hot but didn’t shutdown.

      @@mariofpv 107.31 can allow for long range flights. You'd need a mobile vlos spotter with solid comms though, which for the length of flight you are referring to could be logistically difficult to ensure. You can also apply for waivers, but it would need similar requirements to be accepted.

      The camera is bind and fly. If you want to change settings use the OpenIPC Configurator. The only tricky part is the VRX. There’s a great tutorial by CurryKitten that explains how to setup the NVR(VRX). As an open source it’s non stop expanding and improving. In the future we are expecting hardware from major fpv manufacturers. Cheers mate!😊🍻

    can this record locally to the air unit? if so, can the picture being sent to the goggles be 720p and the recording res be 3k?

      I don’t know. I did a quick test on the bench and I was able to record on the onboard SD card for a few seconds. I still need to add source code to enable/disable remotely this function. Cheers mate!😊🍻

      Both. You can set it in the settings. I use 5.8 because in London the 2.4 band is extremely noisy.

      Maybe a thick thermal pad would be the way to go to hold down the IPEX (and conduct the heat)

      I can’t fly with latency higher than 100ms… the maximum range ever achieved was 106km. We posted a small video on our Telegram channel.

      @@mariofpv The camera already has wifi? I take it that any camera with an MPI camera connection will work with the base board?
      I have a SigmaStar SSC338Q with a IMX415 and external wifi (a la currykitten's guide on the wiki), just can't fit the camera module into the drone at current
      Looking forward to the release though Mario, super cool project

    Interesting, I just got sent this link. I have made a similar board a few months ago and will Open Source it towards the end of Feb, that way we can just get China make them for the community so they are even cheaper. Your board has some mistakes, for example that PA is not going to last long, it will overheat, additionally my board has a gyro and runs a modified fork of OpenIPC that logs gyro data so can be used with GyroFlow. You should consider adding a gyro also to your hardware. My hold up now is on the software side, I am working to make OpenIPC much easier for regular FPV people to use.

    17g is wayyy to much for a tinywhoop, but I am sure you can make it lighter in the future, FPV needs this project.
    I would still like to know about the latency.

      Cheaper receiver, many options for receiver, none stop updates and improvements so it’s future proof, way more options and settings to choose from the settings, 3K and 4K live video stream, open source so you can modify it however you want it, creativity and learning opportunities for you.
      If all these don’t matter to you then just buy an analog camera.
      You will still be able to fly.
      Our hobby is not just go out and fly, it’s much more than that.

    Hey, is it possible to become a tester? I'm very interested in this project and own several quads to test this with like long range, freestyle, cinewhoop and race quads. I'm primarily interested in using this for freestyle and cinematic 5 inch build since I think it is the best way to test this system and I think most people are looking for using this system for that. I'm following this project since the start and really like where this is going and I think this is the future for digital fpv.

      We tested full frame so far. ~35ms glass to glass. I posted photos on the Community section of my channel. Unfortunately I don’t have high frame-rate camera to measure the first pixel latency. But this is still in under construction state so expect many improvements and testings. Also keep in mind that it’s open source so many devs will start participating and improving the system.
