What a display of our inborn sin nature (arising from the sin of Adam) that was actively working in the hearts of Rebekah, Jacob, Esau and Isaac. “The heart is deceitful above all things,
 and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). We have all inherited this same sinful nature. It is in our bloodstream. We must cling to God’s Word in the power of the Spirit to keep from falling into sin. Praise God that born-again believers are no longer slaves to sin! (Romans 6:17-18).
