Lechon manok means "roasted chicken." Lechon means you cook something by roasting it until cooked and golden brown. Inihaw na manok means "grilled chicken." Inihaw means you cook something on a grill over red hot charcoal until done.

it's wonderful to see your whole family sharing a meal which is famous in the Philippines, lechon manok. lechon means the process of preparing and roasting so it can be applied to pork (lechon baboy) to beef ( lechon baka) and to chicken (lechon manok)
very happy you like this dish.

Here in the Philippines when you say lechon it's commonly referred to lechon baboy (roast pork). There's also lechon baka (roast cow) and lechon manok (roast chicken). For me Andoks has the best lechon manok and liempo. Thank you because you had adjusted well to the saltines of our food while other foreigners are still trying to cope with it. If you go to Cebu Rico's lechon is the best especially the spicy lechon.

Filipino food are typically Salty or Sweet, that's why there's a rice that comes with it. :) So, if you are just gonna eat the food (viand) its normally Salty/Sweet. Hope that helps!

Lechón = a cooking method where meat is constantly turned over open flame, pit fire or charcoal. The meat is stuffed with herbs while being constantly basted. The meat becomes tender while the skin crisps. Usually, when you say lechon by itself it refers to pig lechon, as opposed to lechon manok (chicken lechon) . Another type of lechon is lechon kawali (kawali=pan). This is pork liempo (belly) deep fried in a pan or pot.
For breakfast you should try tapsilog (tapa with fried egg), longsilog (longanisa with fried egg), tocilog (tocino with fried egg), champorado (rice with chocolate and salted fried fish).
tapa = beef marinated in sweet salty soy sauce
tocino = pork marinated in soy sauce, sugar, red coloring
longanisa = pork garlic sausage, can be sweet or sour

@@hellophilippines513lechon means roasted .. manok means chicken.. and baboy means pork..
      lechon manok means roasted chicken..
but there are cofusion for roast and grill because we only have one word for them in tagalog which is "inihaw" (inasal in ilonggo language)
we used the english word broil for grill (which means cooked in an oven)
      liempo literally means pork belly..
in a lechonan or ihawan (house that offers lechon like the one you get in) automatically knows it's lechon liempo.. so you don't need to mention lechon.. just say liempo and you will get lechon liempo..

There are different kind of lechon, let start with chicken, pork, baka or cow, turkey, goat and other edible animal that Filipinos think. HAHAHA You were actually right, all of our food here is always accompanied with rice, it is like a meal without rice is just a snack. HAHAHAHA That's why Filipinos always say Rice is Life.

annyeonghaseyo..i was smiling because of your question what is the Filipino word for chicken. Manok is a Filipino word that means chicken in English. they are also grilled the same way as lechon, and put special herbs/spices and the only difference is, lechon has to use a lot of charcoal and is grilled outdoors, while chicken is just grilled in a big oven like you see I laughed at Mr Kim because he wanted to eat pork liempo. if Mr. Kim wants to eat liempo go to baliwag lechon manok, because as far as I know they also sell liempo or grilled beef. better if you want to make it, just buy pork belly, marinate it in soy sauce/vinegar and minced garlic overnight. then buy mama sitas oyster sauce and when you grill it, just coat it with oyster sauce to make it tastier.
