Hey, Ted. Hope it’s ok to show up in your comments to say thank you for the shout-out and, particularly, for the thumbs-up. I very much appreciate the former but the latter really means a lot. Thank you for the kind words and thanks for all the work you put into sharing these videos.
I love seeing Ted shout out the book and especially take the time to praise the craftsmanship of the LaCroix. It's a small thing, but speaks to a real generosity of spirit.
I came for the luthieri, but I stayed for the sarcasm. I shall return again and again for a steady diet both. His amazing talents aside, this guy is as dry as a Canadian guitar case in February. Love it. Merci. That's French I'm told.
Great job Ted! And love the shout out for Gerry! When I lived in Dublin, Gerry did all my setup and repair work on the guitars I had taken with me. His writing style is wonderful and easy to understand for the less than expert learners…. Highly recommend all his books!!
I've still have my copy of Donald Brosnac " Guitar electronics for Musicians " that I purchased in the 1980s and have just bought the complete guitar wiring by Gerry Hayes . What a book !!! . He talks in a way that even I can understand .
That LaCroix looks amazing! I picked up Jerry Hayes’ book too, and it’s fantastic. His “Sketchy Setups” pamphlets are great as well for those of us who do t set up guitars very often and need a bit of reminding about best practices. Cheers!
Just curious how many repairs do you do vs how many do you film? I’m always amazed when someone at a very high level in their craft takes time to share what they do. Thank you for sharing your time
It's so therapeutic to watch you work, I just love it. Though some of your tasks must be exasperating, you seem to take it all in your stride. It's a reminder to us all that patience is indeed a virtue.
Both are very beautiful! Thank you for playing them at the end, it's one of my favorite parts! I love hearing how they sound after you have worked on them.
A lot of CZcamsrs have catch phrases but that fact that you have managed to turn the disinterested repetition of the word "polishing" into one is pretty impressive.
@@that_thing_I_do , I expect that "penetration is paramount" will re-enter our lexicon again, probably sooner rather than later. Why? Because it's paramount, of course😁!
Our learning is French...kissing the frets. The LaCroix is a beautiful guitar! That wiring book is fabulous - so useful. Your care for the details is always appreciated by me - Collings dot color matching as an example.
Well, when you mentioned that Jupiter vintage cap, my first response was, really? It's a cap! And now I learned something new in the world of electronics. Thank you!
"you're chasing a visible phantom" lol, I bet a lot of people missed that one, but your fans are pretty keen, I bet more than you'd expect caught it too hahahhaha
Love your work. Especially the fact you give a detailed explanation of what you are doing. Thanks for your time and expertise. By the way, just ordered the wiring book.
I took a personal tour of the Collings guitar operation before they were producing any solid body electrics. It was very generous and kind of them, and it was great to see their luthiers at work. Good stuff. I have a book similar to that one, as it has drawings instead of schematics. Very helpful. However, I did make a few drawings of my own for wiring up some off-beat situations. I think it helps.
Two really beautiful machines. The neck in that LaCroix is really exceptional. Especially with the contrast of the overlays on the headstock. And the finish on the Collings really is beautiful. As always, thanks so much for sharing your work, insight, and the inspiration it provides. Had a repair last week on a Taylor big baby and had your video in mind, so I watched it again. 😊 PS. My new favorite shirt has been ordered. 😺
That LaCroix is a beautiful guitar and has a great sound too. I may have to try that walnut, if I'm allergic I will pop some Benadryl first. Great work once again!
Thanks for the tip on guitar wiring. Just went and purchased a copy from Amazon. After taking early retirement now on my 2nd career as a guitar tech working under the tutelage of a 30 + year Luthier in Englewood, FL Ricky from IBM, Ret
Top tip! If you attach a draw wire to the first cable that goes through any given channel , use it to pull through the second, which itself has a draw wire, etc
@@twoodfrd, aside from doing amp repair, and having installed new pickups and shielding in my own guitars, as a former telecom technician I just about have a master's degree in snaking wires throughout buildings. Dental floss, especially the waxed or teflon types, is stringer than you think and is great for snaking wires through tight spots. A little dab of electricians' cable lube, a creamy water-based compound, can be extremely helpful as well.
Just received my copy of Gerry Hayes’s “Complete Guitar Wiring”. It looks very good. I have only just briefly review it but I like with I see. It’s up to date with a copy right of 2021. Thank you again for the tip. Ricky from IBM, Ret
Been binging this channel since I’ve found it. I’m a acoustic player not a repair guy in any way, but I really enjoy watching. The only guitar repair channel I’ve liked so far… hmmm any way . Thanks for what you do and keep up the good work.
Ah Ted, thank you. I've been noodling with cheap (and some not so cheap) guitars for a few years now - restoring/upgrading old beaten up models to bring them back to life and practicing my rudimentary luthiery skills. I'm quite good with my hands, but electronics have always baffled me - I don't have even a basic undertanding of how electrons get their wiggle on, and there is a surprising paucity of (guitar-specific) information on the subject available on the interweb, so learning of Gerry Hayes' book that (hopefully) caters to numpties like me was a godsend. I'm putting my order in to Mr Bezos as I type. Top video as ever, with two lovely examples of craftmanship, and I loved the Flintstones reference to volumes of solder - a lidl dab'll do. Sorry. 😐

First they made guitars. Then they got into the sparkling water game. A much more liquid enterprise.
Can't wait to play the Collings. Great work as always.
I'd love to see/hear a bit of you playing it too. :-)

That burl rosette on the LeCroix caught my eye immediately. Gorgeous!
Thanks for endorsing a good book on guitar electronics. Been looking for that!

Bought the book instantly. Thank you very much!
when you say "polishing, polishing, polishing" it reminds me of william wegmans narration of the hardly boys

Those white speed knobs on the Collings are a nice touch.
I'm a firm believer that knobs should try to match the pickguard, if possible.
Thanks for taking us along, Mr. Ted.

That book looks great! I'm also at the point where I've just had to learn as I go, but it would've saved a lot of hassle when I was starting.
That dog hair finish is really beautiful!
Man what a beautiful guitar this Lacroix ..
Ted, thank you for the book heads up. I wish it was available years ago.

I love the finish on the colling. I'll have to keep an eye out for dog hair finished guitar lol
20 nano farad cap by the way. Beautiful guitar.
Gerry Hayes is awesome. He did some work on a bass for me a while back, great guy.
When wiring guitars with tight cable channels I use a bit of steel wire to push through first and pull the pickup wire through.

Ted your dog hair version looks really cool. I'm a sucker for a good schematics especially on guitars, so the book is now on my wish list.
The Collings could get a third middle biggish dot on the 12th fret, to mimic the three dots of the side. Great work!
Never seen one of these Lacroix Damn pretty ! This Collings sure sounds like a Mississipi blues thing
excellent video, ty!
Thank you thank you thank you for showing the book order it and had it shipped and on its way before the end of the video.
