    Кавал свири, мамо

      2nds, 7ths, augmented, and diminished intervals are by definition dissonant and are present in all keys. What are you even saying? Literally in the 1st bar, on the 1st beat, the 2nd scale degree is sung over the tonic before it resolves stepwise to a more stable minor 3rd. Anyone with even basic aural skills would be able to identify "dissonance" as one of the most prominent features of this song.

    • @SBahamondes
      @SBahamondes Před 6 měsíci

      You are referring to dissonant intervals, not actual dissonance, the two are mutually exclusive. It literally resolves on the third note dude. You can even create dissonance with consonant intervals. Do you even know what dissonance means? It means lack of harmony between notes. Singing over a minor scale doesn't create dissonance, it creates harmony. There is no 'dissonance' going on.@@justinstacey7005

    Singers are chosen from country villages for the beauty and openness of their voices, and undergo extensive training in the unique, centuries-old singing style. Influenced by Bulgaria's Thracian, Bulgarian, Ottoman and Byzantine history, their music is striking in its use of diaphonic singing and distinctive timbre, as well as its modal scales, unusual meters (such as 7/8, 9/8, and 11/8), and dissonant harmonies (abundant second, seventh, and ninth intervals). All of these are characteristic of Bulgarian folk music.

Amazing singers like Yanka Rupkina, Stoyanka Boneva and Eva Gordeyeva (who formed the Trio Bulgarka). I’ve been lucky enough to attend many concerts given by these and other choirs. They’ve also worked with many well known artists, such as Kate Bush. The sound is so uniquely harmonic, it goes right through me. There are so many albums available, I would encourage everyone to buy, listen and be transported by this wonderful music. I’ll be ever grateful to have discovered it and have this sound in my life ❤

    Among other Slavic music - Bulgarian folk songs just stand out. The folk music is usually 3-4 chords with a simplistic melody. With Bulgarian folk harmonies it sounds like conservatory graduates were composing them prior to teaching the peasants to sing them correctly. Bulgarian folk songs seem to be the most complex folk songs on the planet.

    Love hearing non-Western rhythm patterns such as the 9/16 being divided 2-2-2-3 here. The "extra" beat is a standard feature of folk music and dance in Bulgaria and the region and where rhythms like the alternating 33/16 and 36/16 in "Bulgarian Bulge" come from. You just ride along with the 2-beat patterns and wait for the 3-beat to land.

      As a Bulgarian I’ve recognised motives from our folklore in a lot of Hollywood movies and western songs, I guess people just don’t realise what it is, we Bulgarians can pick it up from the first tone. There’s at least one big movie each year that uses Bulgarian songs. Last year it was in the opening scene of the Banshees of Inisherin. It’s always a cool surprise to hear it randomly like this and to see people appreciate our music.
