"Congratulations. You're everything we've come to expect from years of government training" sickest burn ever
Yes, one of my favorite lines from the film 😂
Throwing shade at them 😅
@@dakkuri1 ... and they don't even realize it. 😏
Damning with faint praise…
What's called a stealth insult that went straight over their heads too!
"1500 years ago everybody knew that the Earth was the center of the universe. 500 years ago everybody knew the Earth was flat and 15 minutes ago you knew that that people were alone in this planet.... Imagine what you'll know tomorrow." One of the best lines in that movie
There are so many great lines from these films it's remarkable how well the comedy and writing holds up
@@chickentenderlover2412 Absolutely
I kinda like the 2 sentences BEFORE that sentence more.
because it resonates ACTUAL truth

It's funny to see as an adult because all he had was some initiative.
He was the only one who asked why they were there because they weren't actually told.
He wasn't afraid to get comfortable with the table despite how outlandish it seemed to the other applicants.
And the last one just explains itself 😂
took me 20 years (I wasn't the smartest kid, I know...) to understand that not only did J not fail the test, he was the only one to pass. In fact, I just noticed that at 4:42 Z almost seems agreeing with his logic about the shot, only scowling at him when J questions his authority
The fact little Tiffany was on a track to come towards them shows she was the target all along 😅

@@vinzo0913 Same. For a long time I thought that it was a quote from Einstein or someone similar 😅
@@ansgarbroring3488 it does sound like the type of joke he would make, mocking people in his presence silently
I honestly always felt like it is the opposite. Most individuals are panicky irrational and unpredictable, but somehow we function pretty well as a whole.
As a kid you thought J did everything wrong, but as an adult you realise he passed with flying colours.
No he failed everything, these were actual tests. You can tell he thinks outside the box and is way more practical than theoretical but he was supposed to behave within the parameters of the test as do all the others. The discussion between the MIBs clarify this. In the end the boss just decides to trust his senior agent despite the results and not because of it. The MIBs actually just look for Delta force types, which K here perfectly exemplify. A man of few words, straight to the point, pretty uptight, rigid and serious, efficient and responsible as well as selfless. But J got an actual alien on the field and K wants to give him a shot.
@@NKWittmann Captain America over here.
@@NKWittmannI’m sure most of the normal MIB operatives like cleanup crews would have been more conventional candidates like those shown.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them retest later on but thinks it’s their first time again, only to get hired.
Still, Jake impressed on the first test but not in the usual ways. Straight out of the gate he starts asking questions and cuts straight through the bs answer to point out it’s absurdity.
James has critical thinking skills and isn’t afraid to point out when something is fishy, great qualities for the investigative side of MIB operations, and something K likes.
He then uses creative thinking with use of the table, making use of the available resources, regardless of it making a scene, the others just floundered about.
In the second test you can actually see Zed looking somewhat impressed with James’s analysis and judgement, except he bottles it with his attitude.

2:00 - Rare moment of K smiling.
And looking like he got caught smiling and had no intention of getting caught, lol
One of my favorite scenes of the movie
Even more ironic he eventually starred in a movie with Captain America 😂
The test scene if you don't know wasnt about the test at all. They were looking to see who would be the first to use the table. You think that Z sat around with his red pen after the exam going through exams. They just wanted to see who would be the first to use the available resources.
I never appreciated how brilliant the testing sequence was. The tests were there specifically to see how they approached situations and thought outside the box. J was the only one to pass. Nobody else thought to use the table and everyone else blindly shot the aliens without thinking.
Or the top of those ridiculous chairs!
Know what I JUST realized? No one questioned why they were handed deadly weapons BEFORE getting an eye exam. 😂
@@jokerinthebronx Because they are already military guys? There's enough series of tests as it is, to get that far.
Such a groundbreaking movie. No endless hero flicks, starwars remakes, 80's remakes or bloody music biopics. Just pure sci-fi comedy and great on-screen chemistry.
It's based on a pre existing comic book.
Yup. MIB was a solid film, man. One of my favorites when I was growing up, and it always stuck with me. :)

3:52 Jay managed to find Tiffany, notice her textbooks, and take the shot in four seconds, all while strobe lights, gunshots, and roars were going off around him. The only thing I would knock Jay for in the shooting test would be that he took a headshot first rather than hitting Tiffany in the leg.
I disagree with knocking J for that. When deadly force becomes necessary, the best action is to aim for the center-of-mass (i.e. torso). Don’t shoot to injure or shoot to kill; shoot to end the threat. Aiming for center-of-mass maximizes the probability of hitting your target in a way that will end the threat they pose. A headshot should only be attempted by an excellent marksman in an extreme situation. An argument can be made that this applies to J’s situation here.
J appears to be an excellent marksman; he knows he can make a headshot if he has to. Also, the above self-defense guidelines are for human threats. We’re discussing aliens here, specifically aliens disguised as humans. We see throughout the series that many of the smaller aliens operate mechanical human suits, sometimes using the head as the cockpit. If this is the case for Tiffany, a shot to the legs does nothing but alert “Tiffany” to J, which only endangers J more.
A headshot, if accurate, is the best chance to end the threat. J made the right call.
08:29. Actually, 500 years ago people knew Earth was round. Columbus did not took the opposite route on a whim nor to prove anything. People knew Earth was round since Antiquity; famously, Eratosthenes measured its circumference in 240 BC with great accuracy.
The reason Columbus so confidently sailed the opposite direction was that he incorrectly calculated the circumference of the earth to be 16,300 nautical miles. Instead of basing his calculations on the work of Eratosthenes, which would have given him the correct figure of 21,600 nautical miles, he made the critical mistake of basing his calculations on the work of Al-Farghani and mistaking the Arabic mile for the Roman mile.
He also stretched out the landmasses in the eastern hemisphere that would put the Mercator projection to shame. The more you read about Columbus, the more you realize that although he was a superb navigator, he was a complete dunce at everything else.
He was damned lucky that America got in the way.
I read somewhere that columbus massive miscalculations were deliberate. If people knew how big the earth was, no king would have given him ships and no crew would have agreed to sail with him.
Indeed, it's likely that more people think the earth is flat today than 500 years ago.
Yeh but that wouldn’t make for a cool line now would it
The most stressful job interview i had was getting hired at Warner Brothers. Seriously every single minute felt like a "test" and there were times you just wanted to quit and walk out during the one week of "Training" they give you (That is a whole other story) During the interview and training this scene played through my head over and over again of everyone just suffering and being tormented by such simple little things. Honestly longest week of my life job wise. No joke, im pretty sure i deserve some kind of Navy Seal achievement for putting up with the physiological torment of their hiring process, its the worst ive ever encounter. And i have 20 years of Corporate/Private training and interviews from a slew of different companies and industries. Either way i want the Navy Seals to let me skip a few days of hell week....i swear ive already lived it.
The secret is “little things”. People are prepared to deal with the occasional big thing, and big things are easier to get help with. The little things pile up and become one very hard to sanely explain big thing. No one sounds incompetent, unprepared, or too easily stressed when they are facing big things. But little things bogging you down just make you seem sensitive, unprepared, and incompetent for getting your self in that position. Also it’s easier to throw lots of little things at people while maintaining plausible deniability than big things. If you’re gonna sabotage or mobb on someone you don’t do it by completely disabling their car or ransacking to work space. You give em some flat tires and move around their tools. “Little things” that compound into big things.
You move someone’s stuff around for a month. And you get all the reactions of accusations, told you so’s, makes them look forgetful and you look like an innocent person a victim of their paranoia. They will start taking a lot of care to know where their stuff is even specifically put it in a spots just to see if it moves. And what can they do when it moves again? 5 secs after they go off your like it’s right here under This.
Lower someone’s tire pressure 10lb ten times let. Then give them a flat. Repeat and mix it up after about 2 months the damage is permanent. They now are forever stripped of peace of mind. And can do nothing about it besides be paranoid and increasing volatile over time. Shit change chromes to a different color than a week later change em back. What can they do.
“Little things” be hitting hard. Shit if your really on a budget and want to put on pressure. Wait for them to do something and than just go behind them and modify it slightly and say it’s wrong. Like right after they do it if you want. What can they do argue with you? They have to stfu and accept you bsing them to their face or press the issue and quit. Do it for a week straight, like they didn’t make fame sure it was right lol.
Funny how just before this scene they where in a restaurant laughing, then J wakes up and K gives him a card?
The small but emphatic, "Oh shit" when they spilled the coffee was hilarious.
That squealing noise when he drags the table over made me laugh myself to tears the first time I saw this.
The lobby security guard has one of the most interesting jobs on the planet and he doesn’t know the half of it.
he could be an alien just working there.
0:12 for first time watching this scene, I thought the guy with newspaper is the strongest agent or most dangerous man on earth.
I always figured the written test Jay passed because he used the resources available to do what was needed. Why would you ignore an obvious tool that would help you?
He basically passed just from his crack about Captain America. He was the only one there who was immediately questioning, immediately able to see past the bullshit.
@@Yonkage-ik5qb open minded and flexible using the tools available and asking questions, I'd say those would be valuable assets in that kind of organization
6:23 this line has lived rent free in my head for over 2 decades
Anyone else notice when they picked up the pistols from the table all at once from all directions they would have been "flagging" each other?
They also just lay the pistols back on the table. Talk about breaking firing range rule number one.
It makes me sad that this was almost 30 years ago. So much of my life is over. Kids, cherish every single moment!! They go fast. ❤
"OH yeah, it's worth it... if you're strong enough!"
Remember this quote whenever you're facing a challenge in life 💪
I like how he just doesn't give a fuck lol. He's calling out the absurdity of the situation and has no reservations about it.
7:50 This is how you know it's a really old movie.
being Gen-X it doesn't seem that old, but you are correct. There are 23 year olds now who might not even notice the buildings in that shot.
The writing was so good in this movie.
Great movie
The only thing that bugs me about this scene is that the scraping noise starts a fraction of a second before he drags the table. I can’t unsee that 😂
The funniest Easter egg in this clip is the Air Force guy. The badge he's wearing is a Missileman Badge. The officers that end up in the missile silos are widely considered to be the worst officers in the Air Force. What makes it funnier is that they will never have to handle a sidearm because they're trapped in a hole a hundred feet underground.
Best of the best of the best and no one cleared their weapon. Guess little Tiffany was still a threat.
Such a good movie
Let's hope they don't do a 'reboot'
What reboot, there was no reboot.

I've always thought that his sense of humor was what made him stand out
I would have disqualified Jay after putting his broken pencil back together to write: "Your pencil does not need to be whole to be used"
For a silly action/comidy movie, this is an amazing scene. What are you willing to give up for knowledge and a life of adventure.
World Trade Center. My heart breaks
Still sad to me too seeing the twin towers after all this time.
Same and I was there..
Still remember watching that second plane hit the tower. After attending a lecture on disaster victim identification yesterday it’s even more painful.
Just noticed this... as Zed is about to give the eye exam, stop the video at 6:09 and among all the mathematical formulas on the back wall is a game of "hang man" on the right side of the screen. No doubt there are other jokes in those equations, but Im no mathematician.
Near as I can tell, it's a bunch of complete gibberish.
1997 😢
The military guys would have cracked from the pressure of MIB. J is much more go with the flow and wouldn’t freak out over seeing things regular humans have never seen before
is it worth it?
Oh yeah, if you’re strong enough.
Tough lines.
"if you're strong enough"
Me: ok, im out.
Its all about thinking out of the box
My guy could've used his powerful slap to slap the shit out of the aliens😂. If the movie was made nowadays😂
I have been in an interview room with Marines and they are exactly like that.
8:13 Is something I’ve been saying about people since this movie came out! It’s soooo true.
While I get the humor of the first test, I still have never understood why at least one of them didn't decide to just use the floor as a writing surface.
I assume they did after that. Or used their own seat as a desk.
I always thought it was because it would mess up their already perfect uniforms.
It's funny you say that because I was 11 when this movie first came out, and my 8-year-old sister said the same thing, and it's something children very often do when drawing. Sometimes, having the mindset of a child goes a long way in the world.
I would have walked to the desk and kneeled next to it, or moved the much-lighter-looking chair rather than the table. The way I figure, some of the others might have thought to do any of those things, but elected not to because they were too concerned about the appearance of propriety. This is already established by J showing up in street clothes while all of them are immaculate uniform, and the Army guy's "best of the best of the best, sir!" speech which J calls out as nonsense.
I didn't realize it until now K is smiling
Aliens in NYC! All over the place.
When I watch the scene where he moved the big table I always wonder why he didn’t use the smaller table right next to his chair, or for that matter why the man next to him didn’t do it, who knows maybe he did after seeing J move the big table but it always seemed weird to me, sure it’s a little too small of a table but it gets the job done
It's also not a flat surface, but it would be easier than writing on your knee.
8:56 And that's where I would respectfully decline. I could never leave my family.
Will gets selected, classic it’s “who you know” not “what you know” in getting a good job sometimes
Good thing they didn't give him the make-a-joke-about-your-wife test.
People are still using same strategy for hiring. Employers already have people on their mind. But they are gonna call all of us and waste our time
Yeah. People need to be able to identify a problem and come up with a solution by themselves.
It's almost as if confirming that your applicants are as capable as you initially assume them to be is an important step in a hiring process.
A friend went to an interview with a paper test, they were specifically told to read the whole test before starting. Get to the last page it said not to bother with the test and stabd on their chair. First few people to do it looked insane, then the rest caught on.
"You will sever every human contact. Nobody will ever know you exist, ever." Yeah... No thanks
3:17 How difficult would it have been for him to tilt the table to one side to role it? Or was the screeching a plot point?
The point is I think, that he does not care what other people think, he will not conform to the situation but try to make the situation conform to what he needs. Nobody was comfortable taking the test, he was the only one who got up and did something, was not self-conscious or doubtful
Something I didn't appreciate the 1st time, after the pistol sequence, he's pretty much confirmed the whole interview was bullshit.
So technically does this K, know it is Jay back from the time in the 60s. Is that canon? (Even though of course that film had t came out yet)
I have to say this film is one of my favs. Edgar Bug was one of funniest. Perfect portrayal of an inbred hillbilly.
The worst test Will Smith faced was the one from P. Diddy.
Like moving the furniture around in Starbucks. The noisiest stuff out there.
?
first and last time we see K laugh? just curious.
3:39. I forget, did this movie come with an epilepsy warning?
Why is the security to this place so lax? If you´re a stranger, they won´t let you in if you don´t show a card. When you get out, you get neuralized first, and would never guess you need a card to get in.
Only 1,500 aliens?

*Captain America Reference*
an honest question ... it appears that they were all given pencils. couldn't they just stand against the wall and fill in the paper?
7:51 kind of hard to watch, still.
It's always seemed to me that this was a job interview for only one person, and the rest were there as window dressing... Does anyone else think that no matter how well, say, the Navy Seal did, he'd be going away with a hole in his memory?
3:19
Patches o hoolihan
K laughed that's all tht matters
Compare this with him hitting Chris Rock! All those uniform cats is less of a buster!
It's very humorous reading the comments from people who have questions or comments on a movie plot... As if it has a deeper meaning, or some sort of reality!
It's just a well compiled group of fictional images, the majority of the world calls a movie!
I remember when will was a bad ass. Not some wuss and battery guy.
I wish Will Smith would stop showing up in my feed.
Love this movie - loved it. I tried but I have trouble watching anything with Mr. Smith in it since his entitlement breakdown at the Oscars. All I see is douche bag now. Sad.
