Looking at Gigi’s Homecoming video for the first time, I guess her childhood was a bit rough but that hasn‘t stopped her from dreaming of becoming a superstar. What’s more rare, she still maintains a good personality. The lyrics of the ending theme song ”Through the Years“ perfectly narrate her story with mom. I was deeply touched by this song sung by Gigi.

There's an interview she did which is really good but has no English captions. She talked about the time she & her mom were struggling financially so she joined TNT singing contest in hopes she will win so they can pay people they owe money too. She didn't ein but was a semi-finalist. She said sometimes they only could afford to eat rice & soy sauce. Then when covid happened, the GG Vibes didn't have any gigs bc the lockdowns in the Philippines was extreme. They decided to do livestreams. In the beginning, they had very few views but their audience grew. At the start, they couldn't afford to pay internet so a friend payed for it. Then it took them forever to come up with the money to buy a router. Some band members could barely afford to food for their families. They decide to live with Gigi temporarily in Gigi's house for a few months & they did the livestreams from Jon's (keyboardist) garage next door. They've come a long way & all the hard work paid off.
U mentioned that she's a mega star now in the Philippines, but that's not really the case, at least not yet. Yes she has gained popularity in the past 2 yrs but still not mega status (like Regine V, Sarah G, etc). The entertainment industry in PH is controlled by 2 big companies. That's why many underrated singers start YT channels & promote themselves in this platform.

@@richardsinfinity yes, sadly many Filipino singers like Gigi & Katrina were ignored by the industry even tho ppl know them bc theyve joined many tv singing contests. They only start taking notice of them when they start gaining followers on social media or YT (from the reactions that you all do). Morisette was ignored too for a long time but now has become popular but still not mega status. Wish Bus was a small radio station back in 2016 but they gave these underrated singers a chance, so now other countries started noticing them.
@@richardsinfinity just want to add one more thing. On.that interview she did with Karen Davila (u can take a peak but no captions), they showed Gigi's old house where the band members & crew slept & lived in Gigi's living room for some time. There were travel restrictions during that time so it was better for them to just all be in one place.
She became popular during the tv singing competition. She did not win even her singing was good enough the tv network has a favorite ir was not her. It was a very tough competition they were singing daily on the show and their songs mostly were power ballads so imagine it's throat olympics. Some of them almost lost their voices during their performance that made those contestants cry. After the competition she made a few tv guestings singing with other popular artists. Then no more tv guestings so she went back to singing with her band in weddings, corporate events, funerals, big birthday parties etc. When her livestreaming went viral subscribers grew so fast because of that the tv network made her their talent and that is why she had a concert in the USA and middle east with her biggest crowd sold out concert. You can find it on YT gigi de lana dubai concert. And whole year this year I think she is fully booked. She is back on stage different city almost every other night. I think the last 6 days she had three concerts already. She will be in the middle east again to perform on sept. From what I read she really is a humble person and bubbly.
