  • Bloom/Dutch Pour Combo ~ Acrylic Pour
    This technique is a cross between a bloom and a dutch pour. This technique features a unique homemade pouring medium that consists of 1 ounce of polycrylic, 3 ounces of thickened floetrol, and a squirts of GAC/Liquitex. There is no house paint in the base. This pouring medium is used for the base AND the pour-over colors.
    I get better results by thickening it up a bit. THe cells/lacing are not as fragile by doing this. I use thickened floetrol, which is easily achieved by leaving it out in a flat tupperware container for a few days. I stir it at least once a day. And then when it has thickened enough to my liking, I strain it. The white base and the pour-over colors are made from this PM. The white is Mont Marte brand. Available from Amazon, link below.
    The base, unlike the typical house paint in blooms, offers a more refined foundation, allowing for intricate details and a softer finish. The inclusion of a cell activator, akin to the bloom technique, introduces a world of possibilities for creating delicate cells.
    The cells in this technique possess a unique fragility, resulting in softer edges and less defined structures compared to traditional blooms. This characteristic imparts a dreamlike quality to the final piece, especially when a white cell activator is employed.

    Beautiful! I get the same results without polycrylic (base: house paint), why is it used with deep varnish too?

      Thanks! It dries totally different. Leaving out the house paint makes the layers more transparent, vivid, and vibrant. And the polycrylic (Minwax or Varathane) adds to this effect as well. It also dries matte which I prefer. I don’t use a deep varnish.

    Thank you for sharing the recipe! What does interference paint mean and where would it be purchased?

    • @WhiteDogGalleryByAmyJohnson
      @WhiteDogGalleryByAmyJohnson  Před 5 měsíci

      My pleasure! Thank YOU for watching! Interference paint changes color depending on the angle of view. It is very beautiful. Many companies are able to provide interference colors. Examples are This Little Piggy, Golden, and ColourArte. If I could only have one interference color, I would choose Golden Interference Gold. And you can also mix interference paints with tube paints to obtain new combinations. You can buy the Golden Interference from Amazon or from Michael’s.
